- Frank Carroll, legendary coach of Michelle Kwan and Evan Lysacek, chats with The Blade Boys at the Trophee Eric Bompard just moments before its cancellation. He discusses Gracie's bold statement that she wants to win the 2016 Worlds, contending with Danny Kwan and his approach to coaching his current skaters. We also chat about the Grand Prix Final, the rivalry between Gracie and Ashley, Denis and Daisuke's training, and the importance of music when laying out programs. Thank you Frank for the interview!
I loved that he considers the Grand Prix Final a "superfluous" competition. Love Frank Carroll!
+James Greening-Valenzuela Haha, totally -- but there's some big prize money at stake too ($25000 for gold, $18000 for silver, $12000 for bronze!). Yeah, the GPF could cause some skaters to peak too early and mess them up come Nationals. But the fans love it! ;)
Another wonderful interview, Blade Boys! Mr. Carroll is such a legend. Good luck at the GPF, Gracie!
+britjessica Thank you! Agreed - and he's so insightful.
June 9, 2024. R.I.P. Frank Carroll.
Frank always seemed like such a grump at the side of the rink, but he appears to be quite the card. I really liked what he said about the free program. I also kind of want to see him on some kind of wacky Japanese TV show now.
+Becca3232 He is very serious in the Kiss and Cry and at the boards, but he's actually got a great sense of humour and we loved interviewing him! Of course, we'd love to see ALL the coaches on some kind of wacky Japanese TV show. ;)
such a shame about micelle's boots in 97. Tara still may have won - but that year must have screwed her up.
Frank seems like a decent man and I love his wry sense of humour, yet he's a bit of a fuddy-duddy. I love the Grand Prix events!
Interesting comments about Gracie's goal to win 2016 World's in light of what happened.
