I had FRONT ROW seats at the Spectrum in Philly for this tour. Eddie threw a dozen picks at me and I didn’t catch a single one. At the end of their set he came over to the edge of the stage and gave me his giant towel. Still have it 25 years later. 😜👍
The only thing he “couldn’t ever” play properly is the Tom-Tom rolls on “I’ll Wait”. I have a million bootlegs, saw them LIVE, many times, and he never played them correct.
It wasn't really him playing. Eddie's fingers were superimposed as an optical illusion to make you THINK that was Michael Anthony. As you know, Eddie had to teach Michael how to play bass. (sarcastic eye roll).
VH as a whole has been underated simply because Eddie was so good. For my money I'll take that rythym section with Michael and Alex over any ever in rock and roll
@@andrewroettgers4350 agree 100 percent! Their rhythm and beat is incredible! You can tell these two brothers put in the hard hours to establish such a breathtaking sound!
@@HangwithJT that "coffee can" sound he used to get was so innovative. I think the internal mic system he was using helped him get that. And that snare sound is actually not that difficult to achieve, really. Duct tape works judt as good as that cloth-like tape he was known to use in the batter head
This song SMASHES!!!! What an underrated song. It rocks so ghard and the singing is fantastic. The band is firing on all cylinders. Play this loud in the car with the windows down and be proud that Rock and Roll still is the best music ever! Instruments..singing.. songwriting. ROCK ON!!!! Eddie you are missed. rest in heaven and watch us rock on to your great music.
The best era of VH and one of their best songs. This tour was amazing and I'm glad I saw it. Eddie was at his peak and it has all gone south ever since.
My favorite Van Halen song still even after 25 years! Seen them 4 times all with Sammy! One of the greatest shows I ever seen with my best friend 2nd row at the Palace of Auburn Hills April 1995 Balance tour!!
Als Snare was killer on this tour. The whole band was. Im an EVH head and play guitar because of Ed. But, Al deserves his props. Badass drummer. Such great groove and precision.
Van halen est l'égal de Queen 👑 un frontman doté d'une voix inégalable un guitar hero d'un bassiste hors norme et d'un batteur a tombé !!! Eddie soigne toi bien tu nous manque tu nous manque😢😢😢😢😢
Bit wait. All the del fans say that vh didn't "rock" with Hagar. They all accuse them of being love ballads. Umm? ,what is this ? There are several where this came from
It has to do with Roth and his songs that aren't about "Love" like Sammy's songs are. And the Roth fans believe its Sammy that wrote the Ballads, when it was Eddie who created the music.
Damn, I miss seeing them in concert. Don't get me wrong, I loved the "Roth" Van Halen, but vocally, he cannot hang with Hagar. Period. I saw both in concert, and it was like two different bands. Loved them both. It sucks that egos had to get in the way...
Sammy era was okay, but it was very boring LIVE. Roth wasn't about singing great LIVE, it was about putting on a show that was different than listening to the albums, it was entertainment, comic relief and great rock n roll music "that had power" and not selling out like they did in the Hagar period. The most "cheese" was delivered in the Sammy era -- great music if you like pre-recorded backup vocal samples going through a pile of electronics. The Roth era was pure "RAW - Rock n Roll", of course they didn't have the technology like they do today.
"Sammy era was okay, but it was very boring LIVE" Only if you're listening with your eyes. In which case, you might as well watch Justin Bieber......smh
Yeah Sammy could all his songs just like right off the albums and make it sound exactly the same which is totally awesome how well he could and can sing. Because I agree with you that Roth was less about the singing and more about putting on an awesome show and telling stories and having fun, but you have to agree that Sammy tried doing that through his singing and had fun while singing.....
balance ear is when i started gettin heavy into van halen. so it will always hold a special place for me.. btw. sammy is a better live singer than roth..
I don’t know if you know but I have a friend who is a nurse and she has a lot of experience in the field and she has a lot of experience in nursing and she has a lot of knowledge
Why don't you hear alot of VH on the radio? They play the same bands every day but just a different order on different stations. I probably hear VH 1 or 2x week. I'm constantly flipping stations hoping to hear them.
I was 20 then and had tuned out VH after 1984, but this is an amazing song I just discovered while reading the Eruption book. Alex is a beast in this. This is a phenomenonal soundboard recording. I'm in the EVH camp of they could have done a lot better in the bass player department, but after 18 years in the band MA clearly earned his check that night.
Their departure stemmed from Eddie's first fight with Cancer, the Record company wanting a Van Halen Greatest hits with new songs with Roth. And if believed, Eddie was looking for a new Singer that came from the Country Music world.
Never get tired of this song. This live version is killing it. Mike, the mullet was a bad idea back then and it looks even worse here in 2018. Otherwise, this is pretty perfect. Was Ed blonde on top here? Not exactly better than the mullet Mike's wearing really.
They're done as far as I'm concerned. I was beyond furious when they fired Mike and then they haven't done anything good since. It's Wolfgang and 3 old men and its very sad to say that
They claimed they weren't getting along in the studio during the recording of this album.... I find that hard to believe considering how damn good this album is... I consider it one of their best with Sammy for sure...

Spectrum 🔥
Here's a bootleg of that show. To bad the guy made it private. ua-cam.com/video/p_vJHBR4CBM/v-deo.html
Thanks for sharing!
NICE! VH forever...
I love stories like this! I'd do bad things to have the opportunity of seeing this concert. Balance is my favorite album.
AVH is ridiculously smooth. What a underrated drummer. Rawk.
Completely agree bro. Absolutely amazing
That 16th note ride on the back end with all the syncopated stuff hes doing...so good
He is not underrated. He’s a huge rock star. Come on now that’s not fair to those that are actually underrated.
@@trevorwilliamchurch True 🧐... he’s pretty damn well recognized. Lol
The only thing he “couldn’t ever” play properly is the Tom-Tom rolls on “I’ll Wait”. I have a million bootlegs, saw them LIVE, many times, and he never played them correct.
Man, Michael Anthony was killing it on the bass and his backing vocals are superb

Van Halen never sounded better than on the Balance tour. A band on fire!
I agree 100 percent
Balance is so underrated
yes. ahhh man. the reverb.

I love that snare sound!!!!! Alex Van Halen= THE GREATEST ROCK N ROLL DRUMMER!!!!
His sound is amazing on this recording!!

Absofuckinlutely. Ed never took credit for being the greatest guitarist, but constantly affirmed that al was the best.
Alex always had that undeniable snare sound. DLR or Hagar era… it was there. Signature sound.
One of the most Underrated Van Halen songs.
Sammy is one of the greatest voices in rock and Balance is one of the best albums I've ever heard
Yepp
Alex’s Drums are unreal
I wish they had never broken up, imagine the music they could have made! This version of Van Halen was awesome!!
the sound engineer was was king on this tour. the frequency from the whole band and instruments.
A true hero!
one of my favorite intros of all time
I LOVE the sound on this performance.
That is one smokin' track ... damn.
Balance was an awesome CD

THAT efffffing guitar tone!!!

Excellent guitar sound, Ed.
That unmistakable tone of the 1st generation 5150 + EBMM.
They opened up with this in 1995 my favorite band mowed grass all summer Long to see this tour!!!

Badass drummer.

This is a great live performance! Gotta love Van Halen!
Eddie hat einfach die Arbeit von 2 Gitarristen gemacht... RIP Legend! EVH Sound, Stereo 4ever!
holy shit these muther fuckers were good
LOL! Agreed man!
This is their perfect live performance of this song, love it!
Awesome album. Actually my first Van Halen album I bought. Music, lyrics, sound, production, live tour, everything was top notch
this song was soooo sweet. its channeling zeppelin man.
Great track, love the guitar part on this song. Sammy nails it as usual.
Van Halen on fire 🤘
RIP Eddie! I love this song so much! I am not a VH fan, either.
One of their best songs , killer!
Great job
God damn this is awesome
I get paradise city vibes with the cadence. Awesome tune 🤘🤘
Their sound man should've been inducted into the hall of fame
Was this the greatest American rock ever or what?
What's crazy is Eddie wrote this tune while still in high school...crazy.
Where did you hear this?
Alex, wow what a drummer. Power and flow!!! Have to start hitting harder if I get that sound ;)
+Riku Perhoniemi ONE of the best rythym sections ever.
Yea, he's a pretty awesome drummer!
Saw this at the Montreal Forum. It was my first show ever, I was 9 years old :).
I never got to see them even when David Lee Roth was on vocals , They are just one of my favorite bands of all time ....
Same. And now he’s gone for-ever... oh oh oh I’m literally crying.
who would have ever thought..this was the beginning of the end.
Sammy's great, Roth too. I like apples, I like oranges too.
Roth is a rotten apple.
Micheal Anthony is the coolest bass player ever. Id love to hang out w him for an evening of drinks & stories
By 1995 he had progressed beyond competence.
Je vais vous dire j y était quel souvenir c était grandiose
Vive le metal😊
One of my favorites

It does suck that happened your right egos can suck
Great music videos
i know 47 at the time and still kicks ass on that stage.......LOVE SAMMY.........
Dave would never be able to sing this even if he wanted to nowadays.
Dave couldn't have sung most of Sammy's songs. They are two totally different bands.
Dave in his prime couldn't have sung almost any of Sammy's stuff. Two different vocalists.
Wow that's was beautiful
If you were a high school freshman in 1978, as I was, then you get it. If not then you never will.
10 years behind you.
Love van halen
Hammer, der eine Burder so ein Hammer Gittarist, der andere so ein Mega Drummer... Geil!
Does hammer =awesome?
Nice to see VH on the darker side of things...
for 'balance' sake!
Great song...
RIP EVH!, you fucking tore it up, my brother!
Van Hagar FTW!

the best Van hagar 's tour

@@CavemanJesus4Life that last one I have never heard before and no, I don't believe it lol.
This a go to tune for me when out and about 7th seal the real deal...
Not a bad way to start a tour!!!!!
R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen.
turbo charged beauty
Esse baterista é foda de mais... estilo top !!!!

That's freakin BIG ! Love how thet impregnate and defend ! That's it !
I cracked the Seventh Seal handed to me by Gabriel. whoah to those who do not understand or can fathom the weight.
They did this one as an encore when I saw this tour
My 2nd fave Van Hagar song after "feels so good"
ty i was a few years out :)
And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.

Better than the totally sterile album version.
@MrVHWolf they fired dave twice, too......don't forget '96.
Euphoric Vids of VH.
They sound great with a real singer
@loesmed WAS this the greatest, lol??? They still are, and always WILL BE the greatest rock band ever!!!
EDDIE GREETINGS FROM MIRAMAR BUENOS AIRES ARGENTINA,IM CHARLIE IGLESIAS
I came here to cleanse my ears after listening to that crap that aired on Jimmy Kimmel.
LOL!!!
Same bro, SAME!
They're done as far as I'm concerned. I was beyond furious when they fired Mike and then they haven't done anything good since. It's Wolfgang and 3 old men and its very sad to say that
Nice

What they need is a tour with both Roth and Hagar...2 sets...
