Aiyyo that Fill function is pretty dope, but not worth picking this up this over a used MPC One or IMO even the 404 Mk2. Thanks for showing this though!
There is quite a bit you can do with this machine. If you can’t afford an sp, then use this as an alternative. Run it through some outboard gear and sample it into the MPC or your daw. I think it’s worth the price.
I've had the D1 for several days now and been using it for hours every day. There are some serious drawbacks! First off, my unit crashes more frequently than windows 95. I've had it crash because I'm adjusting delay, crash because I hit play on a sequence, crash in the middle of playing back a sequence, without warning or common cause. I've not had it working more than 30 minutes without crashing. I am on the most recent firmware, etc. Now that alone kind of kills me recommending it dead. The next issue is the incredibly limited parameters, I feel so limited with how I can shape the sound compared to any other drum machine I've ever owned or used. AND to make matters worse I thought the whole unit was broken when I first tried creating sequences because in sequence mode the pads don't always recognise that you've hit them. I have learned that I have to hit the pads in different odd angles, depending on the pads, and even then its a crap shoot to how many times I need to hit the pad to get it to register. However after using it awhile you do get a muscle memory of how to hit individual pads for the best results. Again this really sucks and I can't recommend this! I will say the one saving grace is that after getting used to the pads and learning to frequently save my work mid-flow to help me recover from crashing, that actually I was able to come up with pretty fun and reasonable sequences extremely quickly. The lay out of the pads and sequencing in this way is very different from how I have worked before, as I usually use vintage 1970s and 1980s drum machines, so this feels like a fun change of pace for me, AND thanks to the pads being responsive in live record mode, its encouraged me to start finger drumming, something I've not done much of.
@@Exkopr Joe, thank you for mentioning this. The 1200 videos are completely different since they do take a lot longer to film/edit and I know most audience really likes watching the MPC videos but this makes me happy to see that there are some that’s still want the 1200 videos. I’ll definitely be doing more on these
I don’t see the point of this machine. Nothing against it, but I can’t find any situation in which I would use it. You’re completely dependent on the computer and samples need to be edited before assigning them to the pads. To me, it’s just like a fancy MIDI controller with some cool features. Dope content though, as always 💪🏼
I mostly use vintage instruments and don't want to drag around my old school drum machines to gigs and venues that aren't paying me enough if one of the machines gets damaged. So my current hope is to sample the drum machines I have, slap them into this portable thing, and save myself lugging around my heavy vintage gear AND you know if this thing gets smashed or nicked or whatever, its nowhere near as bad as if something happened to one of my heavy vintage drum machines. BUT you know, I haven't received the d1 yet, I'm expecting it this weekend, so you know maybe it'll turn out not to be a good replacement for the road. Who knows. But I can imagine a use for it because its portable and not very expensive. I do wish it had better parameters for all the drums though.
@@charlesdaniels1481 Sure, but you can do that with many others. For example, you could get a second hand SP-404 or use any MIDI controller with a laptop. Personally, I don’t see why I would choose this one. But that’s just my opinion. If you find that this machine meets your needs, then go for it.
@@adm_90 Yeah I have an irrational dislike of doing gigs when a laptop anywhere visible near me, and in fact I haven't used laptops or any kind of DAW for about a decade now, that's just a personal choice, I just like making my life unnecessarily complicated with outdated equipment. LOL! I did look into the SP-404sx and the Mark II and I was very tempted, but it seemed to me lot learning a new workflow entirely, who knows maybe I'll have to get an SP-404 after all, but the D1 looks on the surface more like older machines I use. I mean it does suck that the D1 can't record samples and you can't USB C transfer files, that's my favorite thing about the Roland P-6 actually. And I was very lucky and found someone who bought the D1, hated it, and offered it to me for £150. And I figure hey, looks like about £150 worth of drum machine to me.
yeah I think if the price point was about where the B1 stands, this drum machine would be a great purchase, and something that I'd encourage young people to pick up as their first drum machine to dip their toes in the water.
Roland AIRA P-6 has this beat... except for the stupid display on it. Lower price. Actual sampler. Better stats. Not Chinese. More portable. Makin' beats on the john and that don't sound like arcade music is finally possible! Still. MPC. :)
I bought a P-6 a few weeks ago. I really love the quality of the Unit and it is fun to play. However the limitation of 8 banks of 6 samples per bank, really, really sucks. I'm still going to use the p-6 for some of my set, but I'm hoping the D1 offers me a lot more choice with its 4gb of storage

Aux in looks like you can record into it. That’s an input just a 1/8 stereo. Unless it is there to just play through the device

how does this compare to Roland Tr-6s ?
Hi !
Can I output the Kick to a separate channel? For example, headphones out/
You still using the SP1200 for making beats?

Agree. For a few hundred bucks I'd rather get a cheap iPad and use one of the many fully functional DAWs like Beatmaker 3.
