Just wanted to say, you are one of my favorite m/c content producers. Also went back and watched your coming of age series. Haven't gone out and wandered yet, but thanks for preparing, and enticing me.
Great video. I have found no matter how fast you go or don't go, motorcycles are the best therapy, as they say they call it wind therapy. I ride a K1600GT and it is the best for me at therapy
Same thing happened to me when I was out there. I got to the end, turnaround start heading back and there’s tons of bison all right in the middle of the road. They started walking on both sides of me. Very nerve-racking. And I got video
Isn't towing a trailer behind the powerful and super well handling BMW motorcycle kind of like a Ferrari towing a U -Haul trailer? I can see a Yamaha Tenere or a Gold Wing towing the trailer but not the BMW with the intoxicating power and superb handling. And then the trailer basically kills any lane splitting and even using certain apexes in the curves of roads. The whole concept of a trailer also begs the entire issue of carrying too much stuff. Maybe I just don't see the entire picture or advantage of the trailer. It might be better to get a Sprinter van that also has AC and can carry tons of camping and travel stuff as well as the motorcycle. Use the motorcycle where you want to and drive the van with your lovely wife between the fun places to ride. Well, we are all different and that is what makes the world go around. Glad you are retired, on the road, and having a nice long road trip/adventure. Next time I see a Maserati or Ferrari towing a trailer I will think of you!!!!!!
I understand what you are saying, but BMW has according to them built the "ultimate touring motorcycle" and it should be able to do the things the less expensive bikes are capable of. Sadly, this is not the case with the K1600, as I found out. Dare to do anything other than a few thousand miles per year and you risk getting it's radiator dirty and having it overheat. In my limited experience with the bike, it is far to fragile to be a good long distance touring motorcycle. If my main concernd were lane splitting and hitting the perfect apex, it seems there are many more well suited bikes than what is supposed to be a luxury two up touring bike. As far as the trailer goes, it of course depends on your definition of touring. It if just want to do credit card tours, then you are correct, it is not needed. But, if you want to carry a passenger, gear for two plus camping gear, then it is tough to do without a trailer. In our case we ended up scratching the camping, but you live and learn. Sometimes you don't know until you try. We'll see what happens in the future.
Obviously you don't travel much two up. If you travel from the East or South U.S. maybe it's hot. Then you go to MT., N.M. Utah, WY., CO. and they're is snow on the ground and it's 25 degrees. You can't carry enough clothes to cover all these weather changes without a trailer. Weekend or overnight, no you don't need one. But remember some people travel for WEEKS or MONTHS and not just across town. Don't know why I felt compelled to even comment. You probably don't travel much or you wouldn't have been questioning the need and convenience of a trailer.
As a North Dakota resident Medora is fun town surrounded by beautiful scenery. The outdoor musical is a yearly visit!
Great video as always! Perfect background music.
