Brazil flooding: Thousands left homeless and dozens dead after flooding across Rio Grande do Sul

- Serious flooding has struck southern Brazil, leaving tens of thousands homeless and killing at lest 90 people.
Researchers say the floods are linked to climate change and the El Nino weather event.
El Nino warms the waters of the Pacific, creating more moisture in the atmosphere, whilst climate change can intensify those effects.
The flooding comes amid record global temperatures, which saw the warmest April on record last month.

Imagine 2/3 of the UK's flooded... that's the scale of this climate disaster in Brazil. The territory of the State of Rio Grande do Sul is actually a bit larger than the UK's territory, and 2/3 of that is underwater now. It's the biggest disaster due to climate change we ever had in Brazil. I heard corpses of thousands missing people have started to float. Such a painful lesson for the voters of this State, which majoritly supports right-wings politicians - including Bolsonaro - that deny global warming and take political actions to facilitate the Amazon deforestation.

Repare aonde a placa esta. Como que ela esta virada pra cima enquanto atravessa um carro. Mesmo com alagamento, não consigo ver uma justificativa para a placa estar com a base dela dentro do carro.
Como que isso aconteceu? A placa perfurou o carro por baixo?
@@rafario448 Pelo que eu tinha visto a água estava muito acima deste nível antes, eu creio que com a correnteza da água ela levou o carro até onde está a placa e ela só se encaixou onde o vidro já estava quebrado. Depois que o nível da água foi abaixando, o carro acabou ficando mais preso ali, ou seja, o carro foi levado até la e por algum motivo parou em cima da placa quando a água começou a abaixar. Não sabemos se havia algum outro carro ou alguma coisa embaixo dessa água que pode ter enroscado o carro ali naquela posição certinha para ter certeza, mas vendo assim eu creio que foi isso mesmo.

The same situation happened back in 1941, at the same May week. It's a cycle that repeats itself and the government failed miserably to prevent it. Even now most of the rescue and help is coming from private citizens as the authorities are in disarray.
We are in a new cycle, with much more intense rains happening more often.

One One ngs needs to be said here, Lula and his administration is doing very little and waited too long to start doing something to help the people of Rio Grande do Sul, the vast majority of people rescued so far were actually saved by civilians, not by the government ent. Most food, remedy and other necessities that arrived there from other states were brought by the private sector and ordinary civilians in general, while the federal government and states governments are making it more difficult for people to help and they're being strongly criticized. Shame on the Brazilian government, but many thanks for ordinary civilians, from poor people who's helping with what they can, to rich businessmen that are doing much more than the government, we got more private helicopters helping people than helicopters of the government that steals lots of money from taxpayers every single day. If we waited for the extremely currupted Brazilian government of Lula and Alexandre de Moraes to do something we would certainly have much more fatalities than we have so far, the number of deaths would at least triple.

Rains are common in Brazil (and sometimes in excess), we don't really need much cloud seeding (dry areas are north and northeast.
Great floods have always happened this is not new...

Hello, I'm brazilian, this region has a different climate and does not have tropical forests, it is a region that is 6km away from the amazon rainforest.

The vast majority of that state doesn't even have native rainforst. It's a Pampas (grassland) biome.
