Today I have a pretty big Sports Card Mail Day, it relates to Flawless Soccer and is an entire Rainbow for one of my PC players! It's also the most I have ever spent on a single sports card transaction so I'm feeling uneasy about the whole thing!

People are using CT Scanners to find hits in sealed Sports Card boxes. This should be looked into Dan.
Im a Soccer card collector, but i mainly target rookie cards. I think the most i've spent on a card is £700. I paid £2k for 120 sets which are worth £2k now. Made some bad buys in the past

Dont break up the rainbow! Nickel and dime some other cards to keep it together. Dont think you overpaid, im one card shy of a rainbow and if i was ever to do it again i would pay more than "market value" for a large part of one or a full one.
I may have already broken it up haha.
I honestly didn't buy it to have the rainbow, I just really wanted that green with the filthy patch. The 1/1 is a nice bonus! As long as I keep those two I think the rainbow will always be within reach for me.
I agree re paying more. I think i am just a little dirty given the import fee and missing out on the other card. I'll get over it soon enough lol

Chelsea hey? I remember the days prior to them starting to contend when they finished mid table and had no internationals. Them came Viali and Gullitt and the upward trajectory started. I didn't realise they won as many as 5 EPL titles. Impressive.
I have been a support since around 01/02 so remember some of that time but Abramovich bought them not long afterwards so its been a nice time to be a Chelsea fan lol
@@DanTheCardMan2 Nice timing, haha. No such luck for me. I follow Sparta Rotterdam in the Netherlands and Hull City in England. Battlers both. I do have a soft spot for Arsenal thanks to my favourite player Dennis Bergkamp but I'm not really that invested in them. Love seeing the underdog do well. Leicester winning was amazing and something that may never be repeated again. Started the season at 5000-1, lol.

quite a divisive player (even among Chelsea fans) as he was often at his best in seasons when the team struggled and would be a very secondary player when the team did well (no shame of course getting lost behind prime Hazard etc) so I think you'd struggle a bit to get your money back any time soon as a niche collection is essentially cut in half further. Think Ivanovic will age better as despite the less fashionable/sexy playing position he was more unanimously important to Chelsea's success. Would keep, you have been chasing these cards for a long time for a reason surely
Agree, I’ll be keep the emerald regardless. He was still an instrumental player during a golden era for the club so not too concerned tbh. I think I’ll make my money back fairly easily. Won’t make a profit though.
I personally think you should enjoy the rainbow for as long as possible just because you desired chasing a card for a year. I believe you will gain in a year or 2. But then again I’m not a football/soccer person just another degen 😂

Jealous of Flawless as a hockey collector. We didn’t have Panini long enough to see a Flawless hockey release. Is everything game worn in Flawless soccer?
Yep, game worn for all players and all on card. Flawless is my all time set, I wish we got more of it and I didn’t realize they never did one for hockey.
The Cup stacks up with Flawless imo. Both pretty much the best of the best.
@@1stBowman the stuff I’ve seen from the cup looks amazing. I like the style of that set. I think flawless looks cleaner but something nostalgic about the design of the cup that gives it a more premium vibe. Not sure why
With my collector (and not investor) hat on, I have noticed that over time I am less concerned about the price point and way more cognizant of whether I really like the card and want to keep it long term. Plenty of overpays that I regret, but there are definitely overpays on cards that I do not regret buying at all because they are unique, hard to locate, or in some way meaningful to me. From what you expressed, I have a feeling you will feel more than okay about this in the long run. Appreciate this kind of video, Dan. Nicely done!
Thankyou for the kind words. I think you’re definitely correct. It’s just me feeling bad given the customs charge and having slightly overpaid. Once I sell a few things I think I’ll be more than fine

Beautiful cards & congratulations on the rainbow! I'd rather have the team badge on the 1/1 but all of the cards have wonderful character and style. I'm trying to complete a few rainbows myself and I don't know if I could sell them if/when they might be completed. Of course, money talks so we'll see what happens. 😁
I'm REALLY looking forward to Topps Dynasty. I'm probably going to spend WAY TOO MUCH money on purchasing boxes but it could be a once in a lifetime opportunity! 🤩⚽
Yeah, I think Panini dropped the ball on how they distributed patches in this set (I think I've told you this in a comment previously). They are amazing cards though. I am going to break the Rainbow up and just keep the green and the black. I may sell the black one day but not in a rush. Rainbows are cool but for now I need to recoup some money lol. It's an easier decision to make when you are keeping the more scarce cards. The silver and ruby can be found relatively easy.

Correct me if I'm wrong bit it doesn't sound like you really regret what you paid for the cards but maybe you regret that you took a bit of a hit on your purchasing power since you fund your hobby with your own collection.Seems like you really like the cards you bought tho so no shame in overpaying a little for stuff you really want or that doesn't come up for sale often. I do it all the time and then I just try to get a real good deal on the next purchase to sorta balance it out in my head.

I think its exactly this, plus surprise of the additional import fee. Not a good mix for someone who has ADHD and naturally overthinks things lol.
I am currently in the process of moving a few other cards I was already considering to sell, this will help with it all. Not going to increase my purchasing power but will mean far less spent out of pocket. Basically kicking the can down the road for when I decide to sell the 1/1.
It may not feel like it right now, but I think this situation worked out well for you. For me personally, I'd much prefer to have the Willian cards over the Ivanovic. Not only do they look better with how great the badges are, but you've ended up with more cards of a similar rarity and cards of a player who I think had a much bigger impact on Football for what he did for Brazil, Arsenal, Chelsea, Corinthians and Fulham. I think these cards will hold their value much better than the Ivanovic card.
Thats very fair. Branislav holds a special place in my heart purely for what he did away v Barcelona in 2012. He was instrumental in getting us to Munich. A true legend of the club and sole of the games are rated higher in my book but I agree with you. Willian is right up there as well! I think the situation just annoys me more purely because of the import fee I wasn't expecting.
