I believe Jack didn't pass away until the summer reruns, but he was sick by this point. Charlie was just filling in. MG Kelly announced the next season and then Charlie returned permanently when they moved to CBS Television City.
Most likely because of Charlie's work with Chuck Barris at that time and after all of those shows ended their respective runs. So MG Kelly filled in on WOF during that time.
Oh, and IIRC, the winning colleges came back on Friday, had about 3-4 representatives. They had to pick one to play the front game. Whichever school won had ALL representatives onstage in the Bonus Round.
@@rexburke541 Really?? *SWEET!* (From Dallas, Tx originally) Sorry about the above comment btw... My (former) roommate was high and posted it using my handle. Thought he deleted it back then lol. *HUGE* "Wheel Watcher" to this day! 😎😎😎
Yeah it was a weird time at SMU back then with the football “Death Penalty” going on at the time, I think some TV game shows tried to put us in a better light. A friend of mine won Jeopardy’s college week not soon after, and there were some students on Win Lose or Draw too (remember that one?). I think we were Game Show U by that point!
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEL of Fortune! - Charlie O"Donnell loves saying that in the beginning when they start the show.
Larry deserved the win, and playing for the cash is smart
After Jack Clark's passing, it seems. Charlie didn't come back permanently until the following year.

Charlie O'Donnell returned in permanently in Feb 1989 during mid season

Charlie O'Donnell Sub Announcing For Jack Clark
That's because Jack Clark died in 1988
R.I.P Jack Clark
Poor Wayne. He tried his best, but the wheel was very unkind to him.
Much like the Big Board from the past Game Show Press Your Luck.
Season 5.
Wheel, stop being unkind to him and get it right.
Southern Methodist University?? *UGH...* I hope they lose...
I played on the May 19, 1988 episode for SMU ... we won the week and it was a great time.

@@rexburke541 You were friends with Tom Cubbage, future Tournament of Champions winner?
@@Tubewings Tom would also compete on Super Jeopardy!, the Ultimate Tournament of Champions, and the Battle of the Decades.
