As long as its the right weight (1/16th once or 1/8th once work best) and the right color pattern. Dark colors work well, pink works, white and green can work and more.
I watched this again after 6 months of fishing. 👍 Float fishing salmon on the Somass, the wind caught my float and it got caught across the river in the tree. I could see it but not get it. It's probably still there 🤣🤣🤣.
“Simplicity is the ultimate form of Sophistication”. Google that quote. Freeman you carry a natural touch that most guys with all their bells and whistles will never possess.
Definitely immersed in Freeman’s videos. My fishing life has not what I expected it to be the last six months this. From the fall when late summer hatchery steelhead fishing was non existent and then my wife’s shoulder surgery kept me off the river. When I could finally get out in January too much rain made for unfishable conditions. I did have one good day in January with my son in our drift boat and one good day on the bank. Then unseasonably dry weather came with no rain and the river level went to summer levels. I did fish one day in March despite super low water and I didreleased a nice wild. Then amongst low water conditions the current situation came up forcing me to stay home. So yes, thank you to Freeman for making these fantastic videos where I can “go fishing with him” which helps me take my mind off what is going on in the world. Keep up the fantastic work Freeman.
Yeah you're really good at this. Love the Frozen that thing. Mention about your eyes on your Rod freezing next time. Great place to fish and great tips
@@boredyoutuber420 he talked about using a jig, and his casting and jigging technique, and showed you it was an imitation yellow and brown grub. Curl tail grub is the lure type I believe.
Killer video as always dude. I really need to up my confidence in jigging as it seems to be effective in all seasons. I definitely have very high confidence in spoons ranging from casting spoons, deadly dicks, super-dupers and crocs. I also have very high confidence in hardbaits such as countdowns and small crankbaits, but jigs are my second weakest confidence lures, coming only slightly ahead of spinners for me (spinners are by far my lowest confidence lures). The drawback that I've noticed when it comes to throwing baitfish imitations such as the spoons and plugs is that they are only effective in certain conditions and for a very short window of time. One thing I can say, despite my generally low confidence in jigs is that I have had great success with Trout Magnets on multiple water bodies both wild and artificial, but the major drawback to them is the 1/64 oz weight factor and the fact that it severely limits casting range.
I almost exclusively fish with jigs for every species of trout in lakes and rivers, I used to use small crank baits too and I like those alot for certain circumstances but they still don't work quite as well as jigs and the trebles can damage fish especially smaller ones. Iv heard of the trout magnets but I would definitely recommend 1/16th once and 1/8th once for both rivers and lakes, any lighter than that and it won't really fall fast enough to entice a reaction strike. Fishing is all about being confident in what you are throwing and for me I sort of stumbled into jig fishing by catching my personal best trout literally first few casts and slowly created a method that seemed to work in every lake I took it to, I just got more and more confident with it and now its one of my favorite ways to fish.
@@freemanfishing350 Definitely know what you mean about trebles. I've just about sworn off of them entirely unless I'm using powerbait on stock lakes to catch some dinner. I've added #6 -#4 siwash hooks to all of my jerkbaits, crankbaits and spoons (I never go above 2.5'' so it's a nice hook size) and I put double split rings on them so the hook angles upwards instead of to the side, as I tried it with sideways hooks in my really fresh learning stage last year and had trouble getting hooksets. You should order the Trout Magnet kit on amazon and try it out though, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised (there's a couple kits but the best value is the kit with 120 grubs and 30 jigheads for around $30). There have definitely been a few situations when I couldn't catch fish on anything despite it being prime bite time, and as soon as I switched from spoons etc to Trout Magnets I'd start hammering em. One criticism I do have for the Trout Magnet jigheads is that the hooks aren't the sharpest I've ever used, so touching em up with a sharpening stone is recommended. I'm going out shortly here tonight to get that sundown bite from my float tube and I'm gonna focus on using 1/16 oz jigheads almost exclusively and try to refine my skills with em. On a final note for now, do you have any recommendations for particular brands when it comes to 1/16 oz jigs? I've noticed they're a little bit trickier to find at the big brand stores such as CanTire and Cabela's (plus the hooks from what they do have available there tend to have really flimsy grade of wire). I've got 5 or 6 on hand, but definitely need to stock up and wouldn't mind finding some various colours as well since I currently have a handful of black and only one green/chartreuse in my jig box.
@@bg8224 Good luck tonight, yeah in terms of jig heads, quality hooks are important especially with steelhead and salmon but with trout too. I use hawken fishing aero jig heads for just about everything and they are sold at gone fishin which has a few locations on the island.
@@brandynwood5872 I would beg to differ.. As I've already said I'm by no means a strong jig fisherman, and I've caught 7 fish in the course of 1.5 hours on them. Four of the 7 in the aforementioned session slammed the magnet within 1 second of hitting the water, so they must have looked like some kind of nymph or other insect that the trout were feeding on at the time.
He doesn't post those videos. But believe me, Freeman and I have filmed many days, that were deleted due to lack of fish. One day stands out. Last mid December we ran into a bunch of coho, in a river with legal retention. We hooked half a dozen beauties, three of which were bright silver, believe it or not. But due to a series of goofs by us we only landed one, and it was foul hooked, an inch from the fishes mouth. He deleted the whole video.........
@@freemanfishing350 What about that bass trip? And I remember a few skunkaroo Steelhead days. And that day they let us through the snow blockade, we got to the lake and found two dozen snowed in trailers full of frozen campers, we fished anyway, but froze so badly with all the snow on our float tubes, we quit early. Wait, I remember at least three different days like that, this winter......
There are bigger trout in other lakes like the lake I filmed the previous "How To Catch Big Trout With Jigs" video, I just like this one alot because its one of not many on the island that have browns.
Cought 2 pike yesterday😊
I am from Cowichan Lake. Hopefully this is there :3
I really love the style of these videos man thank you very much
Looked like a great day on the water, going to see how these techniques translate over to fly fishing in Japan!
Territorial and kinda aggressive.
How the smoking going buddy

Those spinmatics are nice little rods. What reel are you using?
pflueger president, 2000 size I think
China's twitch jigs that go under floats for steelhead with those work or do I have to have special ones
