I got fitted for a driver (for the first time) and they switched me from the 9 degree I’ve always used to a 11.75. Got my carry to 290. Highly recommend getting fit for your swing
This maybe the most informative video TXG have ever done. How good must it be for Ian “ Matty can you make this swing with these numbers “ Matty “ there you go “
This is by far one of the top 3 videos TXG boys have ever done. Information to understand the physics behind the scenarios to ultimately help the DIY tinkering golfer try to figure something out. Love it.
Such an important video for the average golfer. I see so many people with plenty of clubhead speed but lose so much distance because spin is too high or low. Will have to share this one for sure
One of the best videos yet. Obviously the message is to get fit, however this information will help educate the consumer on what questions to ask during the fitting. Understanding why a fitter may or may not be recommending something helps us take control of the fitting process since there's only 1 Ian and we can't all go see him.
This video is spot on for me. I get a ball speed of 150-155 but struggle to get it to 270 total. Need Ontario to open up again so I can get out and practice, but more importantly for TXG to open again and provide a date for a fitting 😀 I can only imagine how long the wait list is now . . .
Truer words were never spoke. Built a garage sim this winter & went from around 2 down AOA to 5 up. Spin went from avg 3500 to a healthier 2600. Took a lot of work to get the pull-hook straightened out during the swing change but from Dec to May I've picked up an easy 20-30 yrds carry. Playing TS3 in Graphite Design MAD 65 at 10.5 and considering the Callaway Max LS at 9.0. Honestly COULDN'T have done it without your videos. Thank you guys so, so much.
I’m the shallow swinger you depicted! I was hitting my Speed 9° vs Max LS 10.5° on GC Quad last night. Both drivers have the same head weight, APW in the center and I used the same shaft in each head. The Max LS turned out to be a more balanced driver for my +6° AOA and slightly high, slightly toe side contact. It never did the 1400 rpm dive bomb like Speed 9° did. For laughs, I put the Speed 10.5° demo head on my shaft, put in a heavier back weight to match the other drivers’ head weight and gave it a go. It was better but not as stable as Max LS 10.5°. End result wasn’t as dramatic as in the video however it was close.
I really enjoy these type of informational videos. Like most 30 somethings, I got into golf long before launch monitors were around. Learning the how and why behind the data is so huge, thanks so much guys!
Wasn’t really interested in watching and then I watched it twice. One of your best content filled fitting explanations. Matty the robot has been on fire since his return. Keep up the great work.
A year later and I came back to this video, definitely player number 2. 65 ft, 1750 spin, quacking out of the air. Bumped the rogue st triple d from 9 to 10. And brought it up to 2250, 95 feet, 255 carry and 280 total. Smooth controlled swing creating great results. Appreciate you folks. Thought it was me til I saw this video and gave me the idea to bump up the loft
I am definitely the 2nd golfer that hits up a lot with little to no spin and massive 2-way misses: either a hooked dive bomb that runs or a big spinny slice. Obviously, lessons are needed, but I am also looking forward to my virtual fit to figure out what pieces I need to get things right. Great video as always gentlemen
I have a 9° g410 turned down to 8° and struggle with the high ball. It doesn't balloon, just seems to launch high and float out there. Feel like I lose distance compared to my swing speed since it isn't penetrating flight. I'm almost glad you guys aren't in Texas....I'd be spending a fortune with you while slowly working towards a divorce. Lol. Great stuff TXG!
@@tylerwooldridge7933 found a used tsi3 and much lower ball flight and lower spin. Might want to test some other heads and shafts and see if you get along with them. Finally bit the bullet after testing many and got lucky finding the head and shaft combo I liked for $180 cheaper than new. Recommend Porzak Golf channel also to help with swing if you're interested.
That first shot literally my numbers. Matty can be one of us after all. ❤️ What a great video. I had a fitting at TM the other day and it was amazing to see first hand.
This explained so much to me. Thanks. I have always struggled with driver. Until the call away rep actually dialed me down to 9.5 and moved weight to help me close the club. The opposite of what I kept trying. So much great information. Boo Yaa
Good stuff here. I was fit earlier this year and discovered that I am a poster child for golfer #2. Hit up on the ball, but struggle getting enough spin, and the misses were exactly what Matt hit: low spin hooky balls that fell out of the sky (TM SIM). Was fit into a PING G425 Max and got better spin numbers (2,100 average vs 1,600 average), increased my carry distance a ton, while also keeping the curve out of it.
My Callaway Rogue hasn't been the straightest or forgiving for a while. New 75g shaft slightly helped, but still wasn't great. Set it to draw, still not great. Notched it up to 11.5, and blimey, it's now a fairway finder. Doesn't balloon in the air at all and it's like a different driver. Still want the Ping from Precision Golf though, so that's kept on order!
This makes perfect sense for my current situation, and never would I have thought it was my dynamic loft that was causing my drives to go so high. I’ve adjusted tee height/ball position lately thinking I was hitting up too much on the ball when everything you’ve said points to me coming in too steep. Wow. Golf is a fickle b****. Learn something knew every time I watch your videos. Good stuff.
Absolutely brilliant guys....I can now understand why a higher loft for me works better with the dynamic loft I'm delivering, but more importantly, how I'm delivering that dynamic loft...I'm definitely player 2 in this vid...Thanks guys, awesome video.
This is awesome! Thank you! I have a shallow swing and have overcome some of this by varying tee height, seeing a swing coach and going up heaps in loft on the same club head. This video just nailed home how important it is to get fitted - so that I have to make less adjustments to get the club to work for me.
I'm that 2nd guy to a T. Got fitted into 10.5 TS3 3 years ago from an 8.5 and completely changed my game. Now in a 10* TSi3 and average around 14/2100 launch at ~100SS. Generally get 240 carry rolling out 265-270.
Definitely found this one very informative. I struggle with high launch mid to high spin. Generally 16-18° launch and around 2500-300rpm spin. SS is around the 105 mark and I'm able to get the ball out to 300 yards if I get my numbers in the right spot but not nearly as much as I would like.
Why? Here’s the short story. Pay for a fitting. That’s the entire premise of this channel. Literally the same video over and over again...get fitted. Dumbass
Great video, had this exact issue . Went from ping 10.5 G410 Extra stiff to sim Accra stiff 9 degree and saw my spin drop from 3500 to 2100 on average. Dynamic loft dropped 1/2 degrees too. Be interested in what Sim 2 head would fit and keep that profile . Can’t wait for the fit .
Excellent content as always. My son is a “social” player and we have been working on getting his drive more consistent. This definitely helps! Thanks guys!!
Great overview, the 1st example was me. I recently got fit and the fitting was worth it alone to get info on my swing and AOA. I picked up nearly 40 yards once all was said and done.
What a knowledge fest this site is, absolutely brilliant, i was off +3 at my best (no longer play due to knees) but still tune in to this site daily to keep up with the latest tech. Ian and Matt, what a team, keep it up fellas, superb. I will add that i was fitted for various drivers in the early 2000s but the fitter had little idea of what he was doing tbh. So getting fit is great but you alos need to go armed with knowledge such as this
How you guys only have 152k subscribers is beyond me. That last factor is ball fitting as well. I’ve really found a fantastic combination of distance and accuracy with a SIM2 9 degree head lofted up 1 degree paired with an X flex Tensei Blue shaft and AVX ball. Despite my SS only being around 100-105 mph this is a combination I would’ve never come up with (or even considered) on my own. Get a fitting!
I like these kinds of videos a lot more than club review type videos. This video really illustrates the value of a fitting. After my experience with a club fitting I’m amazed at the results
Great content as always boys. Also, solid save with the masked Gaussian blur to hide fuzzy Ian. Love the golf/production game of the crew. Keep it rolling!
Really shows how a quality fitting can drastically make a difference in someone's game. While user input is the overriding factor, a quality fit can maximize the potential output. Great stuff as always.
I am planning to come from Germany for a fitting. Saving all my money because I have such a trusty feeling for Ian. After watching multiple years the txg Channel I want a full fitting from them. If Matty would join it would be a gift, because I am lefty too. ☺️⛳💪
This is excellent stuff. It would be awesome to have you guys do a vid on which drivers have which tendencies that you've seen in your testing. Would be great clickbait as well as pertinent information for the viewers.
Very thought provoking video. It could explain why at times some of us switch to a claimed 'more forgiving' driver with more club loft to help get the ball launched earlier, but the overall effect appears to be anything other than a 'forgiving' outcome due to the excess spin and as Ian puts it in the video....'all hell breaks loose'. Hence why examples like the G425Max, G430Max may work for some but simply don't work for me, and why lower spin head designs with a higher loft...do seem to work better.
I loved this video more than some of the others as this applies heavily to my scenario with the driver. Im curious if this was a stiff flex or x-stiff? I know matt is a high swing speed player and typically plays an x-stiff. maybe for future videos you guys could include the shaft specs when doing these videos!
This video content really hits hard. I can achieve the magic 2.7 distance but can't hit my window consistently nor get the ball flight I desire despite being a reasonably competent golfer. I've walked into stores to get fit on several occasions and walked out having been fit for the wrong driver. So difficult to find a competent fitter....
Super great video. I live in Tanzania and we dont have golf shops here that do fittings. What is the best way to be able to work out which driver would suit me best? Generally I hit the ball very high and have a Callaway XR driver set to 8 degrees
Loved the vid - very helpful and unfortunately I don't have a club fitting retailer around me - but I feel like I gained a little more confidence on how to direct myself in this situation.
Great video highlighting how different driver heads can be between companies even different between heads from the same company. For example I was testing my Sim Max and it appears to be more similar to the Sim 2.0 in spin profile whereas the original Sim driver was incredibly low spin for me. To TXGs point you can't even buy next years head with the same loft and model and always get similar results.
Wanted to get fitted this month, but with 8+ weeks of shipping I'm not going to. Luckily my buddy works at the local course and I got to try 7 shafts. Found one I love and am just crushing it. Nowhere near I thought my specs would be. Getting fit, or at least testing a lot, is so important
Newer to golf, don’t have crazy amount of money to throw at clubs, when i don’t slice i average about 290 yards. Hit on a launch monitor last night, club head speed was 120 average but spin rate is 3400+ highest i seen was 4200. I was using a cobra f8+ driver at 8.5 degree. What do you do to get spin down.
Why does my 105mph swing make me look and feel like Bryson and Matt's 105mph swing looks like present day Jack Nicklaus?!?!?! So happy to see you on again, DirtyDog!
Any help you can offer would be much appreciated. my playing driver swing is approx 108mph and my 6 iron on the mizuno 3d DNA is 92mph, with figures 5,6,4,3. In general the mizuno 3d dna recommends me to be best fit with stiff or xstiff mid kick shafts. Typically Blueboard or Ventus blue or similar. After a fitting the other day I typically strike upwards at +0.6 deg, with 3000 rpm and a 10.5 deg 917D3 (12g neutrel weighting) Blueboard S+60g at 45". Launch angle around 11 degree, and ball speed around 158mph. Currently I'm averaging around 250yards carry plus approx 15 yards of roll. Flight is straight to slight fade or slight draw. Sadly, many of the fitters of this world don't have anything like your knowledge and expertise, please give me your basic advice of a starting point for my next fitting? I feel that I should be carrying the ball perhaps another 10 or 15 yards more and spin 500 or 600rpms less? Thanks
Went out yesterday and played 18 holes at my local course I have the Ping g410 sft which is a 10 and a half degree driver I've always had it set to 9 degrees via the hosel I changed it before I played yesterday to 12 degrees just to see what would happen... my normal Drive is high and I hit it about 250-260 I get absolutely no rollout maybe five yards if I'm lucky after switching into the 12° I was gaining 15 to 20 yards ball flight was still very high but not any higher than it was it 9 degree but I was very pleased with the extra distance I was getting
Watched the first half and immediately went to the range with my speedzone, hit 15 balls, all pretty straight and about 190 carry off my 85mph swingspeed at 10.5 +1* setting. Switched to -1.5*. A little lower but same distance. Moved the weight to the front and hit a few really smashed ones, same distance and carry. I don't have a slice, just hit it straight with a little fade or draw at the end. Regular flex matrix radix 6. Then tried the higher loft and weight forward, got lower and I think it'll give me more roll. I'm 1*down and 2* out to in. Maybe time to just accept drives starting with a "2" are only down hill down wind.
That was a real eye opener! thanks, So we need to to to a fitter with all the manufactures to try them all! That's not really how it works in the UK as most Pro shops seem to specialise in one or 2 .
Unfortunately due to not wanting to wait I did exactly as mentioned, picked my own driver and shaft , today I'm going to have it optimized to see if and where I went wrong
I am the first golfer in this video all day long. A little downward AA plus a high ss which results in low launch but ballooning flights. Just picked up a TS4 to combat this but it is not very forgiving for me. What would you suggest for me as a better compromise? TSI4, Sim2, LST?
Really enjoyed, I see some of my stuff in there. Love seeing this kind of stuff. With all the available equipment to build something, which can make buying confusing, this kind of info becomes imperative when buying. Thanks
Very interesting video. My club head speed is 98 and I use a 10.5 deg loft with a regular flex shaft. My strikes tend to be high on the head or out of the toe. What change can I try? Thanks
This is amazing timing. I just went to a PGA Superstore to get fit for a new driver. I had been using a demo driver at my course. Epic Speed set to 10.5 degrees loft. Neutral setting with a Tensi AV X stiff shaft. My swing speed is 107-109 mph. Ball speed 158-160. Distance 300-320 (I live in Denver and GC Quad was set up to altitude). The fitter was saying my backspin was too high (3,200) and he said my angle of attack was 14 degree up (Dynamic loft?). My ball flight looks good on the course but I do feel that I probably don't get as much rollout as possible. The fitter had me so confused that I just left without buying anything. My index is 0.0 so I am playing pretty well. I am trying to eliminate the occasional wild tee shot. Should I be going to Epic Max LS, 9 degrees to 9.5 degrees and then setting it to a draw to knock off the spin? Great video!
Could a TSi4 maybe be something for your first example? I swing somewhere between 100 - 110 mph, I hit between 1-4 down on the ball. Spin it around 4k. I have been thinking the STi4 might help... What would you suggest? Cheers!
This makes quite a lot of sense to me. I have an unknown but probably faster swing speed (according to those I golf with) and my ball goes very high then dies. People are constantly stumped, as am I, that my ball is driven shorter than guys with noticeably slower swing speeds. I have an old left handed 10.5 degree Taylor Made driver with an accuflex vs339 shaft. It is always a challenge to find a lower lofted left hand driver. I think a fitting would give me the most out of my swing. Wish you guys were near lol.
Best video yet, educational. What I don't get is, how to be - attack, and even have a high dynamic and reversed....Would be cool to see a video about that.
Great video. A question for you. Currently using ping i210 track man numbers show pretty neutral swing and good strike. Hitting 4 down with 7 iron. ( standard 33 degree loft).Problem I have is height is 104 with a 90mph swing. Spin is over 7k. Do you think I should look to lower the lofts a little ? Ball comes into greens vertical and has no problem stopping. Distance is very average 165 carry. Playing in wind the ball travels no where.
any advice on how to find a good club fitter? I don't trust that club fitters care as much as you do about getting it right and just want to get me in an expensive setup
Definitely great info here! More evidence that being “brand loyal” may not be helping your game. Not that it would be beneficial for Matty’s swing but it would be cool to see how he could adapt his swing based on a blind test. Give him a generic driver/shaft combo and see if he can get good launch metrics.
I got fitted for a driver (for the first time) and they switched me from the 9 degree I’ve always used to a 11.75. Got my carry to 290. Highly recommend getting fit for your swing
Love the way that Matt can manipulate his swing to mirror different delivery criteria. Fantastic to see. 👍
Matt's 105 swing looks like a bunt down the first base line 🤣 what a beast!

Is your distance formula (Head speed x 2.7) for total distance or carry?
Total
This video was so easy to digest.
I loved this video more than some of the others as this applies heavily to my scenario with the driver. Im curious if this was a stiff flex or x-stiff? I know matt is a high swing speed player and typically plays an x-stiff. maybe for future videos you guys could include the shaft specs when doing these videos!
As a fitter, this is perfect! Always improving and learning more information! Thank you!
At 1:46 I'd reply to Ian that there's a much bigger group of golfers out here wishing that was us 😂
Great content and insight as always.
I can hardly wait for my fitting .... This is why ! ....... Great vid as always guys !
Great video! Appreciate the insight. Reinforces need to get fit not just with irons but also with driver.
Very informative thanks guys
The lads from TXG delivered another great informative video
TXG= the number 2 clubfitters in North America and this video explains exactly why
So who is considered no.1....?
...so who is no.1 ?

True Spec Golf in Scottsdale, Arizona as per Golf Magazine March 2020
Wanted to get fitted this month, but with 8+ weeks of shipping I'm not going to. Luckily my buddy works at the local course and I got to try 7 shafts. Found one I love and am just crushing it. Nowhere near I thought my specs would be. Getting fit, or at least testing a lot, is so important
Thanks guys. Great vlog. What about doing one of these for senior golfers with 80 to 90 swing speeds?
Great vid and to great to see you guys working so well together again.
Grrrrr i'm swinging my guts out to get a 105 club head speed.....Matty Boy is chipping it!!!! Great work guys
The Professor having fun! So good! 👍 These boys are good! #letONTplay #letusplay
I have the same driver and about to hit the range and attempt the same adjustments to see if I can get any improvements.
Wish you guys were near lol.
might have been the most relatable video for diagnosing your own ball flight and possible gear fixes
Best video yet, educational. What I don't get is, how to be - attack, and even have a high dynamic and reversed....Would be cool to see a video about that.
One of the best videos you ever made!
I’m golfer #1. Really good video.
Its an amazing skill Matt has, to be able to change his delivery of the club at will... I would be on tour if I could that!
Brilliant video - I've looked at my old driver stats and my spin rate is 3500+ 😬 definitely getting fit for the next purchase!
