You can siphon water by filling the hose with water (i use a pitcher and hold both open ends facing up and just fill it up) and plugging both ends with your thumbs, and then place one end into the water and the other one end facing down in to where you are siphoning. you dont need a pump or nasty water in your mouth.
you don't even need to fill it. just make a U with the hose in the tank, fill water in that U, plug the end which is in the water, turn it over, as you release, the hanging part of the hose with water will pull the water down and start sucking the water. useful especially when you have a long hose.

One thing I have learned with fish. Too much decoration is not good for them. They like the big open space to swim. To avoid them being territorial you dont buy a load of hideouts and other things. We have a lot of fish and when we used to go all put buy hides and decor they started to fight really bad.
