I love your Videos ,i am an Small Statue and now also Hot Toys Collector ,i can say in your Videos are so much Effort ,you are an Role Model for every Collectibles/Toy/Statue Collector.
Great video. My uncle and I were literally talking about this and I have a live show discussing this same topic! I’m two storage units in, and I’m tired of spending money just for boxes! My only caveat is that I also collect statues and there’s a possibility I may purchase one more home before I retire. If I were in my definite retirement home, I’d probably toss the boxes. However, my final retirement home would have a huge storage area (per my vision), so the issue would shift. Moving large polystone pieces without the boxes can be dangerous. I’ve done it before, but I bought the home first, so I had time to move pieces daily and strategically. I don’t sell much, so having boxes for resell isn’t a large issue. I guess it would be if my family wanted to sell my full collection when I leave this world. 20+ years of collecting and holding on to boxes is a pain, but in some ways a necessity.
I keep my boxes. Yet, I completely agree with a lot of what you've said here. At the end of the day I am a collector, not a reseller. I don't give a single solitary goddamn what value my figures hold monetarily because I have zero intentions of ever getting rid of them. It is about what value the figure holds to me personally and it's space within my collection. And part of that, is the art box. I don't just collect Hot Toys. I also collect records, CDs, movie posters, etc. And the art boxes fall into the same space as my movie posters do. I like art. I like the uniform, almost "storefront" look of having the boxes up on nice shelving, and here's the biggest reason I keep my boxes even if I don't love the artwork: (looking at you Upgraded Suit Green Goblin) When I move, which I do semi regularly, it is the easiest and *safest* way to ensure my collection gets from point A to B in one piece. Or in dozens of pieces if it's a battledamaged Iron Man release. But this process only works for me. Not everyone has the space available to arrange for this, nor the desire in the first place. I think it's stupid as hell to shame people for trying to declutter. It's important as collectors to know the fine line between hoarding and collecting and to make sure you stay on the right side of it. Excellent video KeCo, and judging by your outfit in it, I assume your disguise as a high school gym teacher left the USPS staff completely unsuspecting of your true purpose there in the store that day.
I swear to God, I just received Mace Windu from UPS 30 minutes ago and I put the empty art box back into the shipper with the intent of tossing it - would be the first of 50+. I just couldn’t do it lol - but then I sat down and your video pops up and now I’m inspired to clear out the crawl space 😂. Thanks!
Boxes is a source of bane and good. It really depends on your individual choice. For me I don't have lots of Hot Toys figures, only 7. So i keep my boxes just so i can store my figures when i am changing my display. Space is a luxury these days....so choose wisely.
I totally agree! As of right now I have enough spaces to add more figures to my collection, but not enough room for the boxes. Unless the art box is really nice and in great condition (no holes/dents/creases), I don’t want it to take up space. I have sold some boxes in the past but I included some of the accessories in that sale to make it worthwhile like Venom’s or Mando’s box + accessories.
The boxes are important and absolutely not worthless. I like the art boxes and want them and in great condition. If you want to throw away your boxes you can do it but I would never buy a figure without the box.
Totally fair assessment. I suppose you just have to weigh what your immediate to semi immediate plans are. If you aren't planning on selling it in the next 5-10 years, why keep it? With the reissues and upgrades continually churning, the market has shown even 3-5 year old figures with a box are not the value people think. Thanks for your comment BTW!
It’s so funny uncanny that this video came out when it did cos I was just getting sick of boxes piling up and asking myself why I kept holding on. I started by getting rid of small stuff like boxes from Mcfarlane and Amazing Yamaguchi figures. It felt so good! It was a kind of finality. A declaration that these are the figures that I really want and will not sell. Just last night, I finally decided get rid of some boxes from my 1/6 stuff. It’s so funny that we have this problem, just like the people who collect high end bags. I think for a lot of us, we know that deep down inside, we have spent way too much money on these things and want to maximize our returns should we decide to sell them. And there are some of us who are literally hoarding, or at least exhibiting the early symptoms of it. Thank you for being a different voice for our community. Just so you know, you are probably the only channel I comment on.
Good stuff! I’ve been able to get rid of more and more boxes for toys and tech, but some I still can’t yet part with. But the space created getting rid of boxes so far, both physical and mental, has been great. Keep pushing the agenda!! People can be convinced!!
You are absolutely correct and not crazy. I’ve been thinking about getting rid of my boxes for a while now and I’m finally done. There is absolutely no reason to keep them. I’m never going to sell them and the space they take away……forget it. Thanks brother 👍
Honestly I feel the same Keco. Getting rid of my boxes over this summer. I'm here to collect and enjoy the figures, not thinking/caring about selling them in the future
I used to have all my boxes in a storage unit, was ridiculous. But then we moved house. Every figure went back in the box for the move so they were all safe. And now the boxes all live in the loft. I think keeping the boxes is fine if you have the space
Time = money, so I can see how it is not worth it to list more than a few boxes. I did enjoy the poem, wasn't expecting it! Well done, figure (food?) for thought...
It's a really good thing you addressed whether or not the community as a whole is toxic to fellow collectors on the podcast. It's so crazy how worked up people get over others' collections, the decisions they make, and the opinions they have. For example, I got attacked for expressing my opinion on the Black and Gold Iron Man for making it a repaint instead of releasing an actual mk20 python, saying that I was yapping about it, I didn't have to buy it if I didn't like it, and that there is no way they would ever release a diecast python. At the end of the day, it's your collection, if you want to throw away your boxes and feel that freedom of space, all the power to you. I couldn't, not because of the resale value because I don't care about the investment aspect of the hobby anymore, but because it helps my OCD and being organized overall. But selling the box and shipper....hmmm, I might actually buy one or two cause I'm missing one or two - for the sake of organization. lol
If you can get a figure without the box, the better! Less stress and you can snag a deal. Today the Leia and Wicket 2-pack came in the mail without the box, and it was a deal at $300. Ditch the clutter and enjoy the amazing collection.
You get a thumbs up for the intro alone. That said, this was a very hard video to sit through and, I have to say, while I respect your opinion, I find it shortsighted. Collecting has been my primary hobby since 2007, and in almost 20 years of collecting, I have found that almost everything goes up on the chopping block eventually (the only exceptions being the pieces that have strong sentimental value). Things that I said I'd never sell 10 years ago have come and gone for various reasons- space, to fund new collections, emergency funds, or even just the passion for one series or character giving way to another, and I've found when it's time for those items to head off to their new homes, having the box always makes the sale or trade easier. Personally speaking, a loose figure is a deal breaker for me. I would rather not have a figure, than have one with out the box because I see the packaging as part of the item's identity. This is for a number of reasons, primarily security, presentation, art appreciation, and completeness, all of which are diminished without the package.
The mathematical equation proves you aren't crazy. You basically proved your intelligence. Not only are you saying that the boxes are worthless, but you are saying that it's the figures that are worthit. I think the focus being put back on figures is real important here. Thank you. This video was very helpful.
Not the hero we deserve, but the hero we needed 😂 Your videos have helped me get rid of the shipper boxes that were killing my closet, I have the hot toys original boxes for now until I can come up with some way of storing accessories so time will tell!
Love the content! I myself just decided to finally ditch the shippers! I now have my accessories stored in baggies and into a storage box to keep them safe and easy to access! I do plan on keeping the art boxes for now as they do help with transportation keeping them safe! But yeah I do think about ditching them.
I definitely think when you get to the point where you are with 400+ figures/boxes, it doesn't make a lot of sense to tie up that much space. I still have all of mine in the top of a closet, but I am only at around 30 or so, so it isn't out of hand just yet. Everyone's situation is different and I think it really comes down to keeping them not causing an issue vs it becoming more of a hassle to keep them. I would much rather have a complete set than not, even though I have never sold any and don't have any intention to. However you can't be mad or blame anyone for getting rid of them in your situation. Anyway, love the content. Keep it coming!
@KeCoCollects we don't need more people. We are in a recession, housing crisis, people can't barely pay for groceries, and most people can't find jobs because of labor shortage. No, it's time for the government to take care of canadians, and it's time to close the borders.
I just had a discussion like this on reddit the other day. I just got into 1:6 scale. My reason for selling or trading is simply space. I don't have much room to dedicate a ton of figures. If I get to a point, I might need to trade or sell figures that fall lower on priority. It sucks that people won't pay value for the figure and accessories alone. I need to keep the box too. Or at least that's how I feel now. But hey! Let's keep taking about it! Maybe we can create a shift!
Great video. I am trying to do one box at a time. Threw two the others day ( Optimus ThreeZero & Campus Spidey). While I was nervous, it did feel good lol Thanks for the motivation KeCo!
I have always thought the same way. Ideally one day id like to see the world where buying and selling without the original box becomes a norm and doesnt impact price and or anything.
Great content as far as boxes everyone is different. There are in box collectors and completionist to me the box came with the figure so I’m keeping it . But I also don’t have over 400 figures yet maybe when I get to that point I’ll reevaluate the situation while 250 boxes is not a small amount either but I have a room dedicated to that stuff .
I've thrown out pretty much all my third party boxes. All the trick or treat studios. Ones that don't lose too much in comparison to selling without the box. Inart, hot toys, kaustic plastik (more expensive) I haven't as of yet. Plus statues especially as they're needed to insure some protection. But getting rid of the above, you do feel much better. If people have to pay 200 plus each month for storage, that's far more then the difference you'll get for selling a figure without the box. This push by yourself is healthy for our community and more people should do it.
Preach that truth!!! 🔥 Amazing lyrical intro .. I did the same thing with shipper boxes about 2 months ago and cut my storage area in half ..I am working on accessory storage and then maybe toss the art boxes. Great video brother strong work 💪🏻
Well right from the get-go I mean right from the Keco 🤔😂 I have always hung on to my hot toys boxes. I've been collecting since 2010ish. I've always sold mint complete figures in the box so I could get other figures. Since then I have always wanted to keep my boxes for the resale factor. If I just sell a loose figure complete I'll get x amount of dollars. But if I sell a figure complete in a box I'll get the top dollar for that figure used. That's my logic behind keeping my boxes. I know they take up a lot of space but I'm glad I keep mine.
Very interesting opinion and insight here. I will say that some of us out there design and illustrate action figure boxes and we put a lot of effort into that side of the figure and that should be respected. I am not saying you are disrespecting that but I am also not seeing this being mentioned either. This is also not to say that boxes should be valued so highly as some tend to do. But here's an idea no one seems to be suggesting...flatten the boxes and only dump the trays. Yes it's not as pristine as receiving a trayed figure but I think it's a nice middle ground as folks are still getting a boxed figure with the fantastic box art. I am about to flatten down my 89 Batmobile box (1st release), dump the foam and selling the utterly useless and annoying shield. I do have now large attic I can store boxes in but just because i can store a thing, it doesn't mean I need to. I have 52 Hot Toys so 52 big boxes. I have seven 1/4 scales some of which are Enterbay so I do appreciate your fact based approach and you have given me food for thought here. :)
Dude, I value your content and your opinion, and before I even make it to the end of your video I just want to say that no matter how often you want to dunk on art boxes, I still like mine very much.😅
Selling and Trading cardboard boxes! America is truly done for! 🤣🤣 Seriously, I tend to toss the brown shippers as they generally covered with UPS/USPS labels, sharpie marsk, dirt, and goo. For now, I am keeping the art boxes. I just started tossing boxes for other figure I collect - Marvel Legends, GI Joe Classified, etc.
@@KeCoCollects I’m glad you finally said it! I have around 200 1/6 scale boxes and about 70 1/4 scale statue boxes. I’m probably going to keep the 1/4 scale boxes simply because they’re easier to transport when I move. I collect because I love it, not to make a profit.
Update: thanks to this video, I just cleaned out 80 Star Wars sixth scale boxes from my storage; and it’s LIBERATING!!!! I removed all accessories, instructions, and such: and put them in individual ziplocks.
I’ve been thinking about this for a while 300+ boxes but I still don’t have the nuts to do it . Some of them are works of art by themselves , great video
i use the art boxes to store everything i dont display, and the shippers, i fill with mafex, mezco, and SHF boxes but won't hesitate to use them to ship other things I might sell.
I have always thought the obsession with boxes was the weirdest part of this hobby. I do save some however. Even though I collect more intentionally than I did prior to my first figure purge, some items I understand may be traded up if a more definitive or exceptionally better version of a character is released. For figures that I’m not convinced are the perfect version of a certain character, or era for a character, I keep the box and shipper.
I almost, ALMOST was one of those Hot Toys collectors that kept the shipper box AND the plastic that came with it. I just keep the art box and keep its accessories with it. I don't own many figures, so it isn't that big of a deal to keep them.
I got into collecting boxes due to Deanknight displaying his collection with box backdrops back in the day. Budgetstark on the other hand always threw out his boxes due to living in Hong Kong and space being limited there. But now that I have so many figures I just want to throw them all out (art boxes), but I won't be doing that anytime soon. I threw away all the shipping boxes though in the recycle bin because I'm not interested in ever selling the figures. I can understand others wanting to sell them like people want to sell hockey cards though. 400 boxes are way too many to keep though. Good, thought provoking video. Very original. If I ever want to throw the boxes out I'll definitely look at this video again for motivation and courage.
It’s a scandal! Box-Gate!!!! 😂. As I’ve said before, I get these to display in my home office. I have no plans on selling them. They will be my daughter’s one day. I’m not leaving her a room full of shippers.
I don’t have a permanent residence atm so until I buy a house of my own, I’m keeping the boxes. I don’t have all my pieces on display unfortunately either because I don’t have the space(just one room). And it’s still packed lol I’m kinda doing it backwards 😅. But I’d rather get em now before risking the price going up later
I thought the main value in the box was that when selling a figure with the box, you could sell it for $300 say, but with the figure loose and with all accessories, you could sell it for only $200. In that scenario the box would be worth $100 to you. However this only matters for figures that you are not 100% sure you are going to keep forever. I agree that selling loose boxes isn't really worth it, unless you sell lots of other things on eBay anyway.
I suppose it's how you look at it - if you NEVER are going to get rid of them , then get a few bucks I think some people say - but if you do move them on, yes, right now the boxes are a big deal for others
@@KeCoCollects The thing is, for your collection, you are in the curation phase, and you must have around 400 figures, (as you mentioned 400 boxes), so not all of those figures you will want to keep forever, and for you to keep buying some new figures, inevitably some of your current figures will need to be sold due to lack of space. With that in mind, it makes sense for you to keep some boxes for those figures that are your least favoured ones, (and therefore the ones you are more likely to sell at some point).
People said Joey was crazy when he made a Porsche out of cardboard boxes but the babes were pretty soundly convinced until that guy crashed into them with the football. But seriously you should have donated the boxes to the vets think of how many hamsters could have been buried in the garden with those boxes (RIP Sir Sniffsalot 2001 - 2003, gone but also mostly forgotten but not entirely)
I have only respect for collectors who discard the art boxes. It has been a mental struggle for me for the longest of time and I'm still struggling LOL! Buying a new figure is no problem at all. There are space for it still in my display. But the box! Where to store it? That's my dilemma. One day... just one day.... (and when will that be LOL!)
It depends on the figure but in general you are going to get considerably more for a figure with the box then you would without it should you choose to sell it. Again, it depends on the figure as a lot of these have dramatically depreciated thus closing the gap between loose and boxed when fees/shipping are figured in. But then again you don't know what the future holds for current pegwarmers and current grails. It's impossible to predict in the age of re-releases and 2,3,4.0's. I bought a couple Luke Jedi's last year - one with box and the other mint loose complete. The guy with the box got $120 more than the guy without it. I'm happy with both and if you were to pose them up and blind test me I probably couldn't tell you which is which. Make no mistake the boxes are cool but yeah - they take up a lot of space. If that is a issue perhaps it's best to consider the enjoyment you got out of the figure while owning it and apply a dollar amount to that to make up for any potential lost box profit.
The content is good, I’m happy to listen. When my balls are out, they shine with a glisten. When watching the video, I started to quiver. For what I had witnessed had for sure delivered. Fully pulled back with cheese under brim, My future as a UA-camr started to look dim. I once followed will, and now it is done. I had to move on, from being his son.
ahh, the eternal question, to save the box or not too. In the fashion doll world that debate has been going on for ages. There will always be those collectors that want to keep their doll or figure in the box, pristine and untouched -- NRFB. And then there are those that collect the actual dolls or figures, not boxes. No matter what we try to do, there will always be the ones that can't bear to give those boxes up. I like the art on the boxes so I sometimes wish that I could display them with the figure but who has that kind of room?
I get what your are saying mate but there are also ways to extend the profit a little bit. Only sell on eBay during 80% off sellers fees weekends. All you need to do is list the item during that window it doesn't need to sell then. If you could sell all your boxes and have enough to acquire say 1 new figure then it's probably worth it. Tuck the money away each box you sell and don't put a time scale on it.
I bought the Saturn Toys '66 Batman and Robin figures from a Hong Kong seller and they offered it about $40 cheaper without the box. Didn't see the point of spending more money for someone which Id never have any use for.
I think there is some mentality that whatever item will be worth more with the box. BUT like you alluded to, why do we hold that mind state? I’ve hung onto a few boxes of some items I think will have value, but I also like the art too. Saying that, they’re in a loft where I never see them 😓
I agree that worrying so much about the boxes is silly, but how much does not having the box affect the price and ability to sell the figure later? Some people rotate items in their collection. I don't think it makes sense to pay for a storage facility to store the boxes. That gets expensive quickly. At least with these figures, collectors are more okay with taking them out of the box to display. Some collectibles loose a lot of value by simply opening the box.
I don't ever plan to have a figure stashed in a closet somewhere. If I don't have room, I need to sell something to make room. And yes, "take a loss" on it
@@KeCoCollects I hear you on that. I think for me I would love to throw the boxes away but the storage of figures I don't have on display is a bit of a challenge of what to do with them.
The inner boxes - I mean the boxes that the figures come in, I keep and protect. The outer packaging cardboard carton, that I throw away. Not going to be keeping that as otherwise I will never see the end of it.
Also, I keep accessories in the boxes and it is nice to know these are stored properly in their respecive box. And I like the boxes themselves, I like the colours, I like the graphics and designs.
Keco I tend to keep boxes in order to store them safely if I’m ever moving or if I need swap figures due to limited space. What do you recommend for keeping 1/6 hot toys well preserved if you’re ever moving or changing your display? Also the hard work the artists put on the art for those boxes, makes it a sad notion to just throw them away.
If space is an issue for display or if you move from time to time, a box definitely is the safer option. But you could always pack the accessories safely in totes and bags and bubble wrap figures as well. All depends on how much time you want to spend on it - as for the artist, they've been paid already and it's not a 1/1 box - no one is keeping cereal boxes simply because the artist spent time on it :)
It’s not about wanting to have the box so if we sold a figure it would be more valuable. It has more to do with the value of the figure on the shelf that we are collecting. No one wants to throw out a box and have their figure now be worth a 100 bucks less. If you throw out your boxes you are essentially loosing about 1/4 of your collections value. Still love the concept of the video and the discussion around the boxes. Would make for a great topic to discuss over the Friday podcast
You also should not be looking at the value of the box if you were to sell it. Instead you should look at the price difference between a figure sold with a box vs without one.
Thanks for the comment, but that's my POINT! Where is the rule saying a box = 25% of the value?? It's only that way because collectors keeping allowing it.
@@KeCoCollects Oh I am not arguing the fact that it is completely stupid that we put so much value on the box and I wish it wasn’t that way. But that is the standard across the board for collecting pretty much anything. Figure sealed in box are worth more, comic books that have less damage and where are worth more etc.. But the silver lining is that if you don’t care about the box, you can get some amazing deals on figures without them
I think people just have hard time throwing something that looks nice 😅. I personally ,at least for now don’t have such a huge collection ,so I keep the boxes ,mainly because I keep the accessories inside and I live rental ,so in case I have to move ,it would be easier to protect the figures. But since I do a lot of body swaps ,I noticed I’m piling up a lot oh phicen body boxes as well ,and finally started throwing at least those out 😅. With your big collection , I think that’s the smartest thing to do ,to throw them out ,otherwise “collector” turns into hoarder ,imo. It’s super funny people crying and cringing cuz someone chose to throw some boxes out 😅. I throw the shippers out ,at least ,and people in the community have asked me “ but whyyy??” Even for that 😅.
@@KeCoCollects yep, that was exactly what they were telling me 😅. But the shipper is ugly ,plus when is enforced with corner protectors, I just tear it off when unboxing 😅.
How about doing a video on, if you are selling a figure, will you get less without the art art box. Or will people not be interested in buying from you, because you don't have the artbox?
I’ve collect toys for 40 years. MIB has always been more valuable especially for vintage toys. I agree a collector should purchase toys for enjoyment not for potential resell. However you must consider the hobby has changed with collector friendly boxes and always expecting a 2.0.
I collect figures and diecast models I don't collect boxes. I can careless if I buy something used and it doesn't have the box. I'd prefer it doesn't have the box. I don't know how some of these people have the room for whatever it is they collect and the boxes our crap comes in. Unless the figure or model is extremely expensive I throw the boxes out. I never plan on selling my collection and if I did who cares if I have the box. Don't buy it then. F the boxes I'm with you
You need to get off your soapbox buddy, let everyone decide for themselves. If people have the space and are willing to use their storage that is fine. Most peoples collection are in a constant state of flux, and fact is without the box any resale value of the figure is toast. I buy and sell most stuff second hand in the Netherlands. without box I'd get 150 maximum, with box 250. So definitely worth it to keep as long as your collection isn't near final. Once you do get near final or you don't have the space to spare in the attic or garage. then it becomes an option. Certainly not before that. As long as the marketplace stays this way I certainly will keep my hot toys boxes. I do toss out the boxes for larger statues that are sure to remain in the collection for the forseeable future, those are simply to huge to keep, and any sales would be local pickup anyway.
Do not sell the boxes, scammers can buy them to scam other people. Excellent that you threw out the boxes, Jedha Patrol released a video burning a box LOL
So 400 boxes at profit 8 a box whould be 3200 profit not bad and pay for new figure or two ..i chuck my boxes cause i dont buy for value .i only buy figure i love not whole line so small collection but still not worth my time energy or money shipping them out as people ask the most stupid questions .is it mint box ..corner wear etc .i believe collecting is that not value.what waste of family time or anything else in real world.they just boxes nothing more or less
Sure, simple math says to do it, but listing and shipping 400 boxes with however long it takes to actually find buyers is not something I am able to do
Keco Collects tosses out boxes. His valuation of packaging is much lower than Will Fox's.
While his methodology may be perceived as a slight, we still have the Acolyte to look forward to every Tuesday night.

I sadly have to filter and screen my own response here. Check your phone 📱
Keco, the instructions were unclear. I threw away my figures, now I’m displaying my boxes. I’m I doing it RIGHT???
Absolutely!
You did the right thing. Throwing out all those useless figures allows you to have more space to display more of your precious boxes 📦✨
I’m selling all my figures so I can get some new exclusive Artisan boxes 📦 with rooted cardboard
@@aisforapple9968 rooted cardboard 🤣🤣
😂😂😂
Thanks for this. Agree with you 100%. As a collector, as soon as I purchased a figure, in my mind it is already an expense
You bet!
I love your Videos ,i am an Small Statue and now also Hot Toys Collector ,i can say in your Videos are so much Effort ,you are an Role Model for every Collectibles/Toy/Statue Collector.
Wow! Such kind words. Thank you
Great video.
Statues I understand 100% keeping the box... actually foolish not too.
I like art. I like the uniform, almost "storefront" look of having the boxes up on nice shelving, and here's the biggest reason I keep my boxes even if I don't love the artwork: (looking at you Upgraded Suit Green Goblin)
When I move, which I do semi regularly, it is the easiest and *safest* way to ensure my collection gets from point A to B in one piece.
High school gym teacher??? lol. Sounds fun
Thanks!
THE WILL OF THE FORCE!
Boxes is a source of bane and good. It really depends on your individual choice. For me I don't have lots of Hot Toys figures, only 7. So i keep my boxes just so i can store my figures when i am changing my display. Space is a luxury these days....so choose wisely.
Luxury is RIGHT!
That venom box is massive
Nailed it! The acknowledgment that we have spent too much is too hard to handle for many
Good stuff! I’ve been able to get rid of more and more boxes for toys and tech, but some I still can’t yet part with. But the space created getting rid of boxes so far, both physical and mental, has been great. Keep pushing the agenda!! People can be convinced!!
I believe 🫡
You are absolutely correct and not crazy. I’ve been thinking about getting rid of my boxes for a while now and I’m finally done. There is absolutely no reason to keep them. I’m never going to sell them and the space they take away……forget it. Thanks brother 👍
Glad to know I'm not crazy! 🤪
Honestly I feel the same Keco. Getting rid of my boxes over this summer. I'm here to collect and enjoy the figures, not thinking/caring about selling them in the future
Live in the NOW
I used to have all my boxes in a storage unit, was ridiculous. But then we moved house. Every figure went back in the box for the move so they were all safe. And now the boxes all live in the loft. I think keeping the boxes is fine if you have the space
If you have the space, no one loses!
I’ve got two closets, a giant upstairs and two storage sheds I can store my boxes. Them bitches ain’t going no where, son. 😂
Sheds sound clutch!
@@KeCoCollects The perks of living out in the country in TN. 😂

Time = money, so I can see how it is not worth it to list more than a few boxes. I did enjoy the poem, wasn't expecting it! Well done, figure (food?) for thought...
I'm proud the poem lol. Thanks for watching
But selling the box and shipper....hmmm, I might actually buy one or two cause I'm missing one or two - for the sake of organization. lol
If you are looking, there are some out there!
If you can get a figure without the box, the better! Less stress and you can snag a deal. Today the Leia and Wicket 2-pack came in the mail without the box, and it was a deal at $300. Ditch the clutter and enjoy the amazing collection.
That's how I got one of my scarlet witches
Thanks for sharing your perspective - I respect that!
Hi Keco, love your videos, breaking collectors paradigms! I like your thinking outside the box, ( no pun intended 😆).
I see what you did there
The mathematical equation proves you aren't crazy. You basically proved your intelligence. Not only are you saying that the boxes are worthless, but you are saying that it's the figures that are worthit. I think the focus being put back on figures is real important here. Thank you. This video was very helpful.
Thanks for watching
Not the hero we deserve, but the hero we needed 😂
Your videos have helped me get rid of the shipper boxes that were killing my closet, I have the hot toys original boxes for now until I can come up with some way of storing accessories so time will tell!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 you got this!
Love the content! I myself just decided to finally ditch the shippers! I now have my accessories stored in baggies and into a storage box to keep them safe and easy to access! I do plan on keeping the art boxes for now as they do help with transportation keeping them safe! But yeah I do think about ditching them.
Do what works!
My hand was forced! Thanks for watching
I always displayed the art box, i think they are a piece of art, and i make sure they have no dents
If they work for you, enjoy them!
A shift NEEDS to happen
Great video. I am trying to do one box at a time. Threw two the others day ( Optimus ThreeZero & Campus Spidey). While I was nervous, it did feel good lol Thanks for the motivation KeCo!
It does hurt at first for sure!
I have always thought the same way. Ideally one day id like to see the world where buying and selling without the original box becomes a norm and doesnt impact price and or anything.
Perhaps we dream
Great content as far as boxes everyone is different. There are in box collectors and completionist to me the box came with the figure so I’m keeping it . But I also don’t have over 400 figures yet maybe when I get to that point I’ll reevaluate the situation while 250 boxes is not a small amount either but I have a room dedicated to that stuff .
Right. At some point, you reach a diminishing return - I got there lol
It really is a healthy step. My big awakening was realizing the cost to store surpassed the value I'd gain.
Preach that truth!!! 🔥 Amazing lyrical intro
.. I did the same thing with shipper boxes about 2 months ago and cut my storage area in half ..I am working on accessory storage and then maybe toss the art boxes. Great video brother strong work 💪🏻
You like those bars??
@@KeCoCollectsif you put a beat to it was like Eminem took over your channel 😂
Well right from the get-go I mean right from the Keco 🤔😂 I have always hung on to my hot toys boxes. I've been collecting since 2010ish. I've always sold mint complete figures in the box so I could get other figures. Since then I have always wanted to keep my boxes for the resale factor. If I just sell a loose figure complete I'll get x amount of dollars. But if I sell a figure complete in a box I'll get the top dollar for that figure used. That's my logic behind keeping my boxes. I know they take up a lot of space but I'm glad I keep mine.
I get it. If you have the room, go for it!
Flattening them is definitely an option
Dude, I value your content and your opinion, and before I even make it to the end of your video I just want to say that no matter how often you want to dunk on art boxes, I still like mine very much.😅
No worries! I'm just giving people some options! Never here to change anyone.. just make em think :)
I agree 💯 it’s like funko pops the box means more than the pop to people

Seriously, I tend to toss the brown shippers as they generally covered with UPS/USPS labels, sharpie marsk, dirt, and goo. For now, I am keeping the art boxes. I just started tossing boxes for other figure I collect - Marvel Legends, GI Joe Classified, etc.
My marvel legends purge was an even GREATER blessing than these lol
I totally agree with this, BUT, I don’t have the balls to throw all mine away at the moment……🤣🤣🤣

Let's go! Love to hear that
I’ve been thinking about this for a while 300+ boxes but I still don’t have the nuts to do it . Some of them are works of art by themselves , great video
Some are pretty for sure... but those Star Wars ones are hideous lol

A clean closet is awesome!
i use the art boxes to store everything i dont display, and the shippers, i fill with mafex, mezco, and SHF boxes but won't hesitate to use them to ship other things I might sell.
Makes sense!
Smart and logical ☝️
I almost, ALMOST was one of those Hot Toys collectors that kept the shipper box AND the plastic that came with it. I just keep the art box and keep its accessories with it. I don't own many figures, so it isn't that big of a deal to keep them.
If you have the room, go for it!
Always come back when you are ready! Lol. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
It’s a scandal! Box-Gate!!!! 😂. As I’ve said before, I get these to display in my home office. I have no plans on selling them. They will be my daughter’s one day. I’m not leaving her a room full of shippers.
Think about how many cardboard forts you could build!
@@KeCoCollects 😂😂😂
I don’t have a permanent residence atm so until I buy a house of my own, I’m keeping the boxes. I don’t have all my pieces on display unfortunately either because I don’t have the space(just one room). And it’s still packed lol
I’m kinda doing it backwards 😅. But I’d rather get em now before risking the price going up later
Can't argue with that!
I always look forward to your comments
I have only respect for collectors who discard the art boxes. It has been a mental struggle for me for the longest of time and I'm still struggling LOL!
Buying a new figure is no problem at all. There are space for it still in my display. But the box! Where to store it? That's my dilemma. One day... just one day.... (and when will that be LOL!)
I believe in you
It depends on the figure but in general you are going to get considerably more for a figure with the box then you would without it should you choose to sell it.
Lots of variables to consider
I only kept some of the boxes with very nice art works.
Fair!

ahh, the eternal question, to save the box or not too.
I get both sides to be fair!
@@KeCoCollects yeah, me too 🤷🏻♀️
I get what your are saying mate but there are also ways to extend the profit a little bit.
For sure, but for me, I had more boxes than time
@@KeCoCollects fair 👌🏻

Gotta up my game
I toss all of the boxes for the figures i intend to keep, which is most of them. Easier for me to trade or ship if i have the box personally.

I bought the Saturn Toys '66 Batman and Robin figures from a Hong Kong seller and they offered it about $40 cheaper without the box. Didn't see the point of spending more money for someone which Id never have any use for.
See! An economic WIN!
Ill keep my boxes but a very good video

Well said Boss‼️........
I didn't know that there was a resell, secondary market on Reddit ❓..........🤯
There is something out there for EVERYTHING
I think there is some mentality that whatever item will be worth more with the box. BUT like you alluded to, why do we hold that mind state? I’ve hung onto a few boxes of some items I think will have value, but I also like the art too. Saying that, they’re in a loft where I never see them 😓
If you HAVE the space, by all means! Enjoy :)
That poetry tho.....
🔥
I agree that worrying so much about the boxes is silly, but how much does not having the box affect the price and ability to sell the figure later? Some people rotate items in their collection. I don't think it makes sense to pay for a storage facility to store the boxes. That gets expensive quickly. At least with these figures, collectors are more okay with taking them out of the box to display. Some collectibles loose a lot of value by simply opening the box.
Fair points!
I hate having boxes but i plan on selling my figures in the future. So i just store them.
That'll work!
Nice poetry 👌🏽 👍🏽
I'm drowning in boxes 📦 aswell 🤯 I honestly wish every figure came in a plain brown generic throw away box.
That would be the easiest way!
Out of curiosity how will you prospectively store the figures if you ever had too many to fit in the display?
I'm very curious about that.
Makes sense!
I have been very, very naughty for while now, I am a box destroyer, so liberating!!!!! 🙏

Kico is the Dr. Seuss of Hot Toys. XD
selling boxes for $10 a pop is certainly worth it if they need the money lmao
For sure, each situation is different

How about doing a video on, if you are selling a figure, will you get less without the art art box. Or will people not be interested in buying from you, because you don't have the artbox?
That could be intriguing
I’ve collect toys for 40 years. MIB has always been more valuable especially for vintage toys. I agree a collector should purchase toys for enjoyment not for potential resell. However you must consider the hobby has changed with collector friendly boxes and always expecting a 2.0.
Fair point!

@@KeCoCollects you really are temping me😭
You need to get off your soapbox buddy, let everyone decide for themselves.
Almost all statues need to be local - just too crazy to ship!
moving will suck without art boxes no?
I own my home, so we aren't leaving for quite a while - but it a good question
Do not sell the boxes, scammers can buy them to scam other people. Excellent that you threw out the boxes, Jedha Patrol released a video burning a box LOL
