I just love Tuomas's wife Johanna's vocals, she sings so delicate like a ballerina dances. I get what you mean SueSue, about this piece, it's so moving and stirs the heart with emotion that is so wonderfully pleasing. Tuomas's writing really gives a clear insight to his inner self, gentle, loving character. Thank you for this reaction. I loved it.
When you read the comics this song (and the whole album) is based on, the song hits even harder. So beautiful, and it fits the motives of the story so well
This is like an ancient, angelic, breath of fresh air 💖 Johanna's voice is so special. So sweet and delicate, yet powerful to convey many emotions through her voice. Tuomas ma man, you are very lucky, to have such a precious Gem at home as your wifey, and Floor, our Valkyrie Queen, at work, as band mate and friend 💖
In 2006, a Finnish documentary about Tuomas was filmed. He was at home, took the 'The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck' book in his hand and said: "This is the bible of a Disney freak and a distant dream of mine is to compose this whole work. I feel that Disney has given me so much that I feel like I should pay back the debt somehow."
Suesue was right on all counts! That was indeed Don Rosa and Johanna. The other singer is also called Johanna and I believe is the wife of the guitarist. I saw an interview with Don Rosa once and he said he wasn't expecting to like the CD (metal isn't his thing) but when he heard it he wept tears of joy.
That's the thing with Tuomas, and how magnificent he is as a composer, he knows how to make all kinds of metal, from very delicate and moving, to loud and aggressive
tuomas is a big disney fan and a big fan of don rosa. tuomas has a band with troy and johanna called auri. they are amazing. if you want you can check their song desert flower🙂
Tuomas is truly a genius. This was such a beautiful performance. Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas's wife, was so wonderful on lead vocals. I loved both of your reactions to this lovely song and visuals.
Yes, that's Tuomas' wife, Johanna Kurkela ,along with Finnish singer Johanna Livanainen. Troy and the second Johanna's husband, Mikko, also play on this record.
At the end this piece of music gave me some Mike Oldfield vibes. Beautiful music..beautiful Johanna..You can hear that Mr Holopainen is the composer. Thanks for reacting to this Nice song..❤️
I absolutely agree. In fact, I got the vibes pretty early on and then again later when the bridge comes in. In addition, Johanna's voice has a soft, melodic quality that reminds me a bit of Maggie Reilly, who collaborated with Mike for several years.
Tuomas is such a genius, Floor and the whole band refer to him as the Mastro, he definitely is that. All Nightwish songs start in his head. Don Rosa is a hero to Tuomas, after Don said he heard this song the first time, he wept.
Thanks guys! Absolutely breathtaking masterpiece! And Johanna's angelic vocals to bring it to life... just doesn't get any better! Beautiful. Tuomas' wizardry with pen, ink and paper are truly magical! This man turns everything to "diamonds in my ears"...if you know, you know😜

This is such a marvelous piece of music. I really like when people, who after rising to fame and acquiring the means to influence the popular culture reach out to the people who have inspired them, and perhaps introduce them and their work to new, wider audiences. Btw, I'd like to hear more of Wolfman's keyboard magic. I loved the bit in the beginning. Please give us some more, perhaps an improvised intro to every reaction video?
Tuomas loves Disney Ducks specially Scrooge....and Don Rosa is his favorite illustrator/writer. Tuomas invited Don to co-operate here with him. The lead vocalist is his wife.
Nice hearing the Wolf man perform. Yes Tuomas wife Johanna has this very sweet child like innocent voice and brings a sense of calming. Do checkout her songs too. Thank you guys
As an "ankisti"(Donald Duckist) and a long time metal fan, this was a dream come true. I love the fact that the (metal)label NW was on, when Tuomas introduced the idea of this album, they were like "do it, we are totally behind it, no problem". Even after Tuomas said this is not gonna be metal at all.
Thanks for getting to this. If you want to hear more, the two Johannas are members of the band AURI, and collaborate with Tuomas and Troy when Nightwish is in "downtime".They have some really beautiful songs. Wolfman, nice job on the ivory 88s!!
There is a live video of the two Johannas singing this live on a video called, "Johanna Kurkela & Johanna Iivanainen - A Lifetime of Adventure @ Poleeni, Pieksämäki 26.10.2018"
Tuomas Holopainen made this album his own costs. It takes long time to do it. When record company hear album they decided to buy it and Tuomas Holopainen get his money back 🙂. Well done.
Week with Pip Williams gang is something like 250-300k euros. Studio cost hard to say but example Nightwish's Dark Passion Play studio bill was little bit under 700k euros.
Tuomas Holopainen had a character "Hopolainen" named after him in the Finnish Aku Ankka - (Donald Duck) magazine. (Hessu Hopo is the Finnish for Goofy). In the same story there was also a character "Hymynen", named after Jouni Hynynen from the band Kotiteollisuus. (Hymy is the Finnish for smile). Tuomas and Jouni were given the chance to write the dialogue for their characters. Tuomas used to play with KOTITEOLLISUUS as an outside member. My favorite Kotiteollisuus performance and song: KOTITEOLLISUUS HIMOSFESTIVAL 2010, and the song "SATU PEIKOISTA". (A fairytale about trolls.) It is the last song of the set on the midsummer festival at Himos. Time stamps for each song in the description box. I saw Kotiteollisuus last summer. I liked it a lot, but I must say it was so much better with Tuomas on keys. Someone said Tuomas looks more relaxed at Himos maybe because he is not in charge like with Nightwish. Of course I have to tell the connection I have with Jouni, even if ever so light. His current wife, an actress, used to be my mother's tenant here in Helsinki Finland. Tuomas also played as an outside member in a band called "Trio Niskalaukaus". (Trio Neckshot) In Tuska festival, years ago, Tuomas' last gig with them, the leader of Trio Niskalaukaus in the middle of their set asked Tuomas to leave Nightwish and to stay with them. He asked the audience whether Tuomas should stay with them and the crowd answered "YES!" Of course it was a joke.
Tuomas had better watch out, he has some competition! Wolfman, please don't jest at serious problems. Oooh! The two Johannas' voices, fairy-like, so different from the powerhouse of Floor, but beautifully fitting to this song. The smiles, all around... So Tuomas met his hero, the illustrator, Don Rosa, and this is the result! I heard Tuomas say, the copyright would be OK, as long as the face of the Duck was not shown.
I'm still trying to get used to the two of you switched 'seats' :D Musically, this is probably the most played and popular song, from that particular 'album'. Personally, and I hope you'll react to it (if u havent already heard it?) is another song from the same album, called "The Last Sled". Music and everything is a matter of taste. We all have our favorites ofcourse. But personally, I feel "The Last Sled" is better. As in, if I had to listen to a song a few times in one day, from THAT album, it would def. be The last sled. So here's hoping and praying with puppyeyes that you'll give that song a spin aswell :) (not taking anything away from this song, its beautiful, Johanna has a lovely voice, and Tuomas as we already know is..simply a genius)

Great reaction. This song is so beautiful and emotional. Tuomas is such a genius in writing music that evokes so much emotion in his listeners. The other singer with Tuomas' wife is Johanna Livanainen and her husband is the gentleman performing the guitar solo. Both Johanna's had a project called Altamullan Road with some really beautiful songs. One of my favorites is When It's Time (ua-cam.com/video/PBeCoAOP5d0/v-deo.html), a beautiful song about a person fondly remembering their life with their spouse who has passed and her hope to see them again when they pass. There is a lovely fan video of them performing live a medley of songs from movies and video games (May it Be from Lord of the Rings, Theme from the Last of the Mohicans, The Dragonborn Comes from Skyrim, and a fourt song I didn't recognize. ua-cam.com/video/EyTomjjnE8E/v-deo.html). Johanna Kurkela's latest project is called Eye of Melian where she teams with Martijn Westerholt of Delain and Within Temptation to create movie score like fantasy inspired music (Melain is a character from J.R. J.R.R. Tolkien). One of my favorites is Vita Nova. ua-cam.com/video/D6hFHuGH3RE/v-deo.html. A couple of related videos' worth checking out. A project called Dark Side of the Moon (Melissa Bonny of Ad Infinitum and members of German folk/medieval metal band Feuerschwanz and Amaranthe) does metal covers of themes from movies, TV shows and video games. Their version of May it Be is gorgeous with Charlotte Wessels (ex Delain) guesting. ua-cam.com/video/UbbzVj8xYLE/v-deo.html. They also have a great cover of Jenny of Oldstones from Game of Thrones. ua-cam.com/video/uO4qhtGij_0/v-deo.html. Some details on the non-music side here: Scrooge McDuck is, of course, a Disney creation. An underused one at that, and originally a somewhat darker character. Don Rosa continued the tradition of stories that Carl Barks created for Disney back in the day, but as Disney doesn't really want to explore the Scroooge McDuck character it was done for independent labels by Rosa (often with little to no pay). The album here is inspired by a collection of Don Rosa's stories that collects the story of the life of Scrooge McDuck from childhood and until he becomes rich, fleshing out and expanding upon the stories made by Carl Barks back in the day. This comic book is well worth reading, released as a 12 story collection with a companion book with further stories originally, later reissued in a deluxe edition compiling all the stories. These are Disney comics as they should have been, rather than the bland, featureless and onedimensional stuff Disney itself tends to churn out.
Great reaction. I love these collaboration projects. Troy helps out on this album too. You can get more of Johanna in another project, The Eye Of Melian, who have just released their debut album. (Also with a little Troy magic sprinkled into some of the songs.) Johanna is well worth seeking out in all of her projects. Her voice is so otherworldly. I really like all the music that Tuomas has composed and written, or arranged (like many cover songs that NW has played). He has the ability to play the chords of our hearts. I love these records of his, where the London Philharmonic Orchestra is the main player. Like this solo album by Tuomas. But the NW movie soundtrack album is also one of my favorites. Many albums have different tops in their respective fields. It seems to be a special talent that Tuomas has. Getting these people into his music. Esko Valtaoja, retired space science professor from a Finnish university (narrator in one NW song). Richard Dawkins, an English professor, also as a narrator on the NW album. Don Rosa, one of the top cartoonists of the Disney company. The London Philharmonic Orchestra, featured on five NW albums and also on Tuomas' solo album. James Shearer, master conductor on all NW albums, which also features the London Philharmonic Orchestra. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Shearman From this solo album, maybe you could listen to one more song?
James Shearer, master conductor on all NW albums, which also features the London Philharmonic Orchestra. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Shearman
From this solo album, maybe you could listen to one more song?
