Don Rosa repaid his dedicated Finnish fans by doing a graphic novel length take on the Kalevala starring Scrooge, Donald, and the nephews. A lot of research for a "comic book". Available in English. Carl Barks created Scrooge, Duckburg, and much else. Disney's "Ducktales" TV show is another take on Carl and Don's work. Don's "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" won an Eisner, the comic industry's equivalent of the Oscar. Very much worth reading. It's essentially a biography of an imaginary character, taking Scrooge from his birth in Scotland to his death at age 100. Along the way he meets Theodore Roosevelt (Scrooge advises Roosevelt to try politics) and many other historical characters. It's a marvel of art and storytelling. The scene you see Don painting in the video is of young Scrooge during his time as a prospector during the Yukon goldrush. So many disparate elements (music, art, storytelling) all coming together. Barks influenced George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, among others.
I have swedish releases of the this story by Don, and also more. I have been a big fan of Carl Barks, but heck how Don Rosa create incredible stories, with historical backgrounds. Fantastic man! And I find "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" to be Tuomas best work! I have both CD and a golden vinyl nr 077/100 =)
Goose bumps from head to toes 💗 I have always loved this song. I don't think there is anything I don't like that Tuomas has created! His wife, Johanna, has such a beautiful and haunting voice. I'm sure you have already been told the story behind this song, so I won't repeat. So happy you all gave this a listen! 🤘😊
If you have read Rosa's stories of young Scrooge, this score composed by Tuomas speaks directly to your heart and memories. The songs fit the stories so damn well.
Huge thanks to Pamela and you two for reacting to this and exposing your many followers to this brilliant composition and video production. I discovered this about two years ago and it's been on my play list ever since. Tuomas amazes with every song without fail. His diversity is unbelievable and I'm sure he could write and arrange a major symphony if he chose to. It was obvious you both enjoyed yourselves and that is what I love most about watching first time song reactions to this band and its members. Stay safe. Ron
I love this album. My favourite song is "The Last Sled". Tuomas and Johanna Kurkela, together with Troy Donockley (also Nightwish), have a side project called Auri. You might try their song "The Spaces Between".
FINALLY!!! Thank you for this! First off, IIRC that's Tuomas' wife Johanna singing ;) Second, that artist who's drawing is a famous Finnish artist who originally conceived Scrooge McDuck if I'm not mistaken & Tuomas has been a fan for a very long time. Read up a bit and I think you'll be really interested! Now, this song hits me personally for a few reasons. I spent over five years driving solo over the road semi trucks. "Story of your live, times of solitude and strife, freedom of an open road, hope and many miles to go..." That just seemed to fit the life. But there's another part. "Promises to keep, countless gold fields to reap, to be rich is to seek to relive the memories..." That hits me so hard because it reminds me of my best friend/soulmate from high school. Sif and I had kept in touch but not been able to get together for 20 years after high school until I got into trucking. Then I stopped by a few times a year for visits when she lived near Milwaukee and later Chattanooga. We only got to go to one concert together during that time which was Nightwish at In the Venue in Milwaukee. She passed away in her sleep a little over 40 years old a little over a year ago and having her in my life was a true blessing. I'm truly rich as I still seek to relive the memories. Thanks again for another great video and have a great night ;-)
Just to add, Scrooge McDuck was conceived by Carl Barks, Keno Don Rosa, better known as just Don Rosa, is a huge fan of Barks and based his Scrooge stories specifically on the ones written by Barks (we all know the quackverse is full of completely independent storylines, but Rosa fit his to fit Barks best stories to create a coherent life story). Also first page of every Duck-cartoon by Don Rosa has "D.U.C.K." hidden in it, standing for "Dedicated to Uncle Carl from Keno",
It was just ... cute ... how you two just smiled and nodded slightly during the whole song. Thank you for sharing! Tuomas is, in my eyes, a music god. And Johanna is a gifted with an angelic voice. What a great couple.
A very special song from Tuomas Holopainen and his mastermind . The two female singers are his wife Johanna Kurkela and the other Johanna Livanainen , the guitarist's wife , who' s his wedding best man , who made him married Johanna . Now you may know why a music genious guy like Tuomas married a woman like her . She's a living muse ! That woman is a gift ! Lucky guy Tuomas is ! Love them both! She worked with band Auri close to Troy Donockley , the multiplayer , who is the last add in Nightwish ... you know... pippes / whistles / celtic drums and so on!
Tuomas has always expressed his love of Disney and he also loves Scrooge McDuck. His wife, Johanna has a very pretty voice and to me she sounds like a pixie. She has a solo project called Auri, which she records with her husband, Tuomas and also Troy from Nightwish. It is kind if similar to this stuff. Very ethereal and though provoking. It reminds me of new age music like Enya or Loreena McKennitt, if you are familiar with them? Really beautiful guitar solo, kind of Pink Floyd like vibe. Less on the heavy side and more focused on beautiful melodies and deeply contemplative lyrics.
Tuomas is a Disney Duck fan....and this is part of his dream to make music about it. He also respects high Don Rosa who is ultimate great artist of these illustrations.
Hey Hunterz -- this is a song that one doesn't expect from Tuomas. It is a song that I love the message for -- because it literally is a musical expression of what it means to exercise one's unalienable right of "pursuit of happiness." It literally is saying, "to be rich is to seek" -- a message, I feel, has gotten lost, given the world in 2020. And since you both love this song, I would say you need to hear The Last Sled, another song from this album. Fortuna faveat fortibus. Stay safe, guys.
So beautiful! I love how the song lures you in nice and soft and slowly builds up...not like a full blown head banger, but you hear more instruments and more vocals as the song progresses. If the song went on for an hour, I wouldn't realise it or lose interest. Musical fluidity!

Don Rosa is a wonderful artist, I have several hard cover albums of his cartoons. When I was a kid, Wednesday was the best day of the week, it meant a new Donald Duck cartoon had come, I remember walking home from school in anticipation. And if I was lucky, mom had baked buns I could eat while reading the cartoon: could smell the buns a block away. Don Rosa's stories were always the greatest of them adventures. Glad he is part of the video. The vocals of the two Johannas are just sweet as honey.
This is one gives me very strong Mike Oldfield-vibes. I know that Troy considers Oldfield to be an important influence and that the album "Ommadawn" changed the way Troy views what's "allowed" in modern music, but I don't think I've heard Tuomas mention the man. Still, I would be extremely surprised if Tuomas doesn't appreciate Oldfield's music as well - it feels like it would be right up his alley. Thanks for the reaction to this beautiful song! [Edit] Oh, considering the context you might be interested in checking out the collaboration between Oldfield and Tarja - I was actually unaware of it until relatively recently, in spite of being a fan of both Mike's and Tarja's. It's a trance tune called "Never Too Far".
Well it’s been, mentioned at the surface but never completely so allow the dark poet to help, Tuomas is known to be a higher Disney fan (he also composed fantasmic wich is Nightwishs tribute to Disney) especially Scrooge Mc duck is his favorite. The Old man drawing the picture of Scrooge (that’s actually the cover art of the album he’s drawing) is Don Rosa who is famous for drawing Uncle Scrooge after the great Carl barks and for drawing the biography of Uncle Scrooge . Tuomas for years dreamed to compose an album about the biography of Scrooge Mc duck. In 2014 he and Rosa met at a comic convention and Tuomas told Rosa that he’s a finnish metal composer and that he wants to do an album about the life and times of Scrooge. Rosa was “ oh that’s great I wish you the best of luck” not knowing tuomas or Nightwish, 2016 the album was done and as Tuomas tales to Rosa again he was awe struck. The album is a masterpiece in it self I have read the life and times of Scrooge many times listening to the album while reading and if read a little faster it matches the music page by page
Great reaction, as always. Love how you both feel this gorgeous music. You def should react to the latest album H:|;N, the instrumental part. A lot more of that beautiful music. All you need for this music is: a dark room, a set of good headphones, the sound on almost too loud, eyes closed, no distractions, on your back on the floor and... ENJOY!!!! BTW Suzie, you look stunning if I may say.

Then a full album release sept 11 2020 with a music video called not to blame. all songs will be available on itunes amazon and all that good stuff... thank for checking us out!! oh btw the song in the into is called unafraid and will be available sept 11 as well. links are in the description box
Johanna Kurkela, the main singer, Tuomas's wife, sings normally in Finnish. She has made hits here locally. You can start by checking Rakkauslaulu (Love Song) If you want the lyrics, people have translated them in the comments
Okei. Little facts. In Finland are Donald Duck a much bigger thing then Mickey Mouse. Almost every one hu have been child in the 70's, 80's and 90's has been reading Donald Duck magasines. And then to this Music. Don Rosa (the old guy that is drawing in the video) have done two comic boks that are named The Life Time Of Scrooge 1 and 2. And Tuomas did this hole album inspired of them. In the Album. Alan Reid is the voice of Scrooge. And the Singers are Johanna Kurkela ( Tuomas Wife), Johanna Iivanainen and in one song Tony Kakko ( friend of Tuomas and the singer of Sonata Arctica). Also in the Album are Troy Donockley and plays some of the instruments. My favorit song of the album are Cold heart of the Klondike
I love this channel. I even have my 11 year old daughter into it. Side question, what contacts are those that you are wearing? That's exactly the color I'm looking for.
I mentioned in my earlier comment that Toumas is Mozart of the 21st Century. What if Amadeus traveled thru time to our present, he would asked Tuomas for pointers? By the way, Amadeus is Mozart's middle name. If you actually read about Mozart's bio, he is Tuomas in his time. Because other greats in Classical music were doing their thing, Mozart did things differently. Classical is tied directly to Metal.
You said Tuomas very well. If you want to nail it, stress the beginning (all Finnish words are like that), like TUomas (TUO-mas - not tu-O-mas, nor tuo-MAS).
Congratulations guys, you’ve officially met Tuomas’s wife, Johanna Kurkela :)

Thanks. Check out Auri . Thuomas, Johanna and Troy. And kind os Nightwish light.
I can listen to that album on repeat for hours. Cold Heart of the Klondike is my favorite track.
@@SingWhileYouMay I agree and actually I find it to be his best work!!
Omg I lost this one, it's amazing, what a composer 😍
This is what genius sounds like.
ENJOY!!!!

Kiitos.
This "cartoon music" for Don Rosa's cartoons.
Fun fact: this is inspired by and thematically based on Scrooge McDuck
Book "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck" Edit: Actually the whole album is. It's like a soundtrack to a graphic novel.
@@lekalla And Duck artist Don Rosa appears as himself, drawing the cover art to the album on camera.
Quirderph Which is amazing considering how Rosa’s eyesight took a dip for the worse since 2006.
@@davidw.2791 Yes. If you look at any semi-recent videos of him drawing (including this video) you can tell that he is working on a very large scale.
Quirderph Yes, and using charcoal sticks so as to draw large with thick strokes.
should check the whole album out its amazing i see you found Auri too with Tuomas Troy and Tuomas Wife Johanna
Johanna's voice is so sweet 💕
Now you need to check out Auri. And love the less makeup look. :)

Please react to Ayreon, song called Intergalactic space crusaders, live. (Floor’s sister on backup vocals).
Both singers' name are Johanna.
oh wow
Let's start a campaign to get Tuomas hired to score a Disney animated feature.
This album is it. Disney just needs to animate Don's books.
@XYZ33
Where nobody would see it?
he def could do sound tracks for sure
They made a movie and lost their ass just like Metallica did. I doubt he wants to revisit that
Johanna Kurkela, the main singer, Tuomas's wife, sings normally in Finnish.
She has made hits here locally. You can start by checking
Rakkauslaulu (Love Song)
If you want the lyrics, people have translated them in the comments
this whole movie soundrtack based on cartoonartist Don Rosas uncle scooge stories. I just love those storys
Singer is Tuomas "wife" Johanna Kurkela.........
Johanna Kurkela ... sing in this beautiful song... of The Master Tuomas... she is your wife...
Next try Troy and Tuomas's side band "Auri" and the song "Night 13"
I love this channel. I even have my 11 year old daughter into it. Side question, what contacts are those that you are wearing? That's exactly the color I'm looking for.
I pre-ordered this album. Was very happy. Inspired me to read all the scrooge comics.
She was the female singer from Sonata Arctica.
She is the wife of Tuomas

I just don't get it how americans are so oblivious about Keno Don Rosa and Scrooge McDuck :D
If you want to nail it,
stress the beginning (all Finnish words are like that), like TUomas (TUO-mas - not tu-O-mas, nor tuo-MAS).
So yeah Tuomas wrote an entire EP about the life and times of Scrooge McDuck because he was a fan of the artist.
If no one mention that this album was like a soundtrack for Uncle Scrooge young age adventures by Don Rosa
Brother Firetribe - Heart Full Of Fire. Emppu ft. Anette.
Please reaction "No one can't stop us" by Dipha barus ft. Kallula

The entire album is really great. "The Life And Times of Scrooge McDuck."
