This is exactly the kind of series I was hoping for when the Steam release was announced. I really appreciate that you are reading the tutorial and paying attention. Some people just skip all the info then ask questions that would have been answered. I also find it amusing that our MMO histories are basically opposites. I'm quite a bit late to the game here, but I just stumbled on your playlist. As a long time RuneScape player(primarily RuneScape 3), I really appreciate your fresh, new player perspective on the game. As I'm sure you find out as the series goes on, there is so much depth and content to the game that doesn't come out at first glance. I'm really looking forward to catching up on your videos and sincerely hope that you end up enjoying the game and staying for the long-haul. Best of luck and maybe I'll see you in Gielinor someday soon.

Thank you! Yeah, I'm having a blast. Thank you for the tip about the mouse wheel for the camera--a viewer of the stream also pointed this out and it's super helpful. Moving the camera with ease now ;D
I just started playing RuneScape about a month ago. I loved the video and the idea of a series from a new player's perspective. Most of the let's play series about RuneScape seem to be made by and aimed at veterans of the game. Hope you stick with the game and the series. It's quite different to many MMOs and can get quite grindy towards the later levels. Some of the quest lines are pretty amazing in my opinion though.
Thanks so much for your kind words! I, like you, am totally new to the game and am really enjoying it so far. I will certainly stick with it and see how the game unfolds! The late game grind sounds daunting, but luckily I've got a long ways to go before I deal with that, so I'll just enjoy the cool quest lines that you mention ;D Thanks for watching!
I'm also going to be starting my journey through RuneScape 3 mostly blind. I played old school for a little bit way back in the day, but I didn't enjoy it as much. Hopefully playing through RuneScape 3 without any prior knowledge will be an experience I won't forget!

Haha, great! I'm so grateful someone was kind enough to post about this on the subreddit. All of this support has really motivated me to keep going with this awesome game. It's all new to me lol I thought about booting up WoW classic for that "first time" feeling as you say, but it would be nostalgia, not fresh gameplay--so I went for the fresh with RS ;D Thanks for watching!
@@DrIncompetent there's nothing quite like that first time feeling. Been playing RS for 15 years, wish I could get that feeling back lol. It's a great game, tons to do, almost to much at times, but just have fun while you do it!

You have motivated me to start a Runescape 3 Channel. I have been a long time player but I feel like Let's Plays are just so far a few between and I love watching them. Thank you very much. Best of luck on your stuff. I will stop by your twitch sometime and check you out and say hi. Thanks again.
@@DrIncompetent I just realized I commented on the wrong channel. That was my test channel xD If you could stop by and check out my first video and just give me some feed back. Its nothing special but any advice from you would be amazing. Thank you for responding :D
always love to see new players, I am working towards maxing all skills atm. I think you will find if you continue that there is more to this game than it might first appear. The quests in runescape are very unique and i think you will find that it is unlike pretty much any other mmo. A lot of other quests will say something like go kill 20 bears to clear out the bear infestation or something like that, while there is a single quest i can think of that is like that (*cough* imp catcher *cough*) it definitely isn't the norm. I'd love to see you do more of this game.
Thanks for watching Retrorocket! I will definitely be doing more videos on this game. I can see the charm and appeal beginning to emerge in this enduring and loved game. Looking forward to playing some more!
Welcome to the game! 17:20 That particle effect on the other rock indicates that switching to that rock will yield faster and better results (the blue bar over your head builds as you mine, when it's full you crit. Which means instant and sometimes double ore. Switching to the gold mist rock means you crit sooner). In regards to the map and interface. The map can be resized, repositioned and even restyled (along with most of the interface which is deeply customizable). You can even scroll on the minimap to zoom in or out. Click the globe to open the world map, where you can set your own objective markers, hide or show certain types of icons, and search specific places or nearest types of locations (like finding the nearest furnace and bank to your character).
Thank you! Wow, these tips are amazing, thank you for them! I wondered what that sparkling rock meant. Now I understand why I was seeing crits on regular mine attempts... neat! Fantastic about the map--I will definitely mess around with this ASAP. I might even alter the UI itself (as you suggest) but might want to get a feel for what I use most first. That's terrific that it's all customizable, though. I love when games let you do that! Thanks for watching. Looking forward to more Runescape ;D
@@DrIncompetent Yes even your combat is customizable. When you start like that you are on a mode called revolution. If you were to maximize the thin bar in the bottom left (the little gold diagonal arrow in the top right of that bottom left thin bar...you can also right click that same button to get the sheath/unsheath option). You would see it is an ability bar. A few abilities have been bracketed in gold. These will auto play in sequence. You can preempt or interrupt them manually. You can also go esc key/settings button/Gamplay tab/ Combat & Action Bar drop down in the left panel of the Gameplay tab/Combat mode button. There will be 3 check boxes in the right panel. You will be on Revolution by default. You can also choose Full Manual, which gives you complete ability and timing control but is less afk'able. Or even Legacy Combat Mode, which closely approximates what the game used to work like combat wise before the Combat rework (Called EoC = Evolution of Combat). This last setting is typically only used by players who are either overwhelmed by EoC mode or like to do old style PvP on Legacy Mode Only Servers. Your character also has adrenaline (the yellow meter on your ability bar). It builds as you fight letting you do increasingly powerful abilities throughout an instance of combat. The great thing about the ability bar is you can press the number bracketing gold arrows on it to cycle through 9 ability bars. So you can have an ability loadout for each sub style of the 3 main styles of combat. So you can have for instance a two handed melee bar, and a dual wielding melee bar. This is useful because many monsters have weakneses and even specific weaknesses (it shows as an icon over their head when targeting them). So a monster could be weak to magic in general. But say fire spells in specific. You can even setup an ability bar for skilling. Like one that uses teleport tabs to locations you farm at and banks, then has things like alchemy spell on it. If you wanted to be really lazy in combat you could enter an area with aggressive creatures (that are not quite strong enough to kill you any time soon) on Revolution and with the last ability it highlights being a food item that your inventory is full of. Then turn on auto retaliate (the gold halo sword icon on the ability bar next to adrenaline). when clicked it will turn to gold highlighted crossed swords and then any monster which attacks, you will auto retaliate against using revolution and eating periodically. Then you can go make a sandwhich rl, take dump, have a smoke etc.
Wow, awesome! Yeah I was reading that in the tutorial a bit, but was sorta lost. That makes sense! I love all the stuff you can do in combat! At first it looked real basic, but the depth is great! Thanks for the tips!
14:36 that was literally what I was thinking too! Way better than when I was younger. It makes me want to play it again. I like this I want to see more so that I have ideas of what to do when I start playing again.
Yeah, the graphics look much better than I thought they would in their cartoony and blocky way ;D They work really well for the game. So glad you enjoy it! There is soooo much to do in this game ^_^
Cool to see a new players perspective. I've played rs since 2007, still going strong but mainly on the old school version now but I still play the main version too sometimes.
@@DrIncompetent Yea no thanks, the last thing I want to do is bring bad news to a guy whose abs are bigger than my forehead. Great series btw! Finishing up episode 2 as we speak :)
Whats up bro I just found this channel and I see you have 150 episodes of this series and I plan on binge watching them / using them as background videos while I do what I have to do 🔥
Thanks so much my friend! I am still playing haha--we go live on RuneScape every Wednesday evening if you ever want to stop by ;) I believe we are doing some Gnome quests atm ;)
It's really interesting to see that from a 2022 perspective and especially through the different quests as some are updated and some are not and I can get a sense of the history.
Oh, common... 1. That's the tutorial island, you cannot judge game based on not even completing the tutorial 2. Lol at the person remembering slow progress bars from childhood, the skill was reworked last year and there literally were no progress bars before that + the entire point of them is that you can go faster by more involved gameplay/clicking impatiently
Wow. This is something I'll be checking my notifications for. I am attracted to this journey as to how you evolve with your play and how your interests take shape. 💖💖
Awesome! I will be posting many more videos on this amazing game for sure. I can't wait to see what happens as the game areas open and I can cast spells and bake bread all day ;D
Wow Classic and Runescape are one of finest MMO's out there. Sadly I wasn't satisfied with TERA online, that was tad annoying with the path system. Wow is more competent though. You can reclick every time you mine the ore when you get the xp drop, more xp per hour. That is mining rework for you.
Haha, I have thought about going back to WoW classic some day, but wanted to give a "new" MMO a try ;D I had a buddy do TERA but ultimately not stick. Runescape seems fascinating so far. Thanks for the tip about mining!
I’ve never played this version of runescape, I was confused when the tutorial didn’t physically give you your hatchet, tinder box, and net. Do tools not take up inventory space anymore?
This is a great question that I'm not sure I know all of the details about because I haven't played other RS versions myself. I believe none of those items take up space anymore, but you can get a hatchet that works better than the "default" or non-space-taking-up version if you want and carry it around, but other players advised me that it's not a huge deal. So I can fish, make a fire, and chop a tree without any kind of tool atm:)
Thank you! Yeah, I keep hearing about this 99 skill thing and I'm lost lol I've got 2 mining haha I'll get there! Thanks for watching! Loving the game so far.
@@DrIncompetent 99 is the max skill level in most skills, or 13 million experience in a skill, there are a few "elite" skills which go to level 120 which is 104 million exp and there are virtual 120 levels where if you get 104 million exp in a skill you get a 120 cape and if you get level 99 in a skill you get a level 99 cape, and if you max all skills you'll get the max cape :) if you got any questions just ask or use /wiki mining (or whatever you want to look up) you can type that in the chat box in game and it will open the rs wiki in a web browser :).
Oooo, wow! Thanks for all this info. Awesome! Someone did recommend I get a Skill Cape, but I had no idea what that meant... Now I know lol -- seems like a serious investment haha I thought I could dive in and get it tomorrow lol. No.
@@DrIncompetent not tomorrow but if you pick a skill you like and invest some time into it i would say you could get 99 in 2 weeks but thats playing some long hours a day, i think typically it takes a month or 2 for a 99 skill maybe playing average hours a day :P can pick a skill you enjoy or find out what the 99 capes look like and pick the one you think looks best and go for that too :).
Hi guys i came here because of my friend kemit plays it. I'm a fan of him (minecraft survival island timelapse vids), so may I ask if runescape is same as minecraft? 😁
Hello! RuneScape is a classic MMO. It has crafting and resource gathering, as well as some combat and you can build a house like Minecraft, but it does not have building as its primary gameplay mechanic like Minecraft. Check it out to see if you like it! It's free to try on Steam ;)
I have a question...I have also never played before, is it free to play, or do i need to pay for it? And how long can you play this game? Thanks for your help😁
Timo, hello! Yes, it is free to play up to a point, I believe. I am playing on a free to play server from Steam. I have been playing for a few weeks. From what I understand there is a ton of content for free to play players! You can play the game as long at a time as you like until the F2P content runs out. Hop on in and enjoy the game ;D
@@DrIncompetent Thank you very much😁, I like you're commentary really much, keep it up, and another question😅Are you gonna purchase member, when you're done with the Free to play part od the game?
That's a great question Timo! I might give members a try when I clear the F2P stuff... I have 2 bonds from really generous people to try out if I want, so maybe for a couple weeks? Luckily--I've got a LOT of content to cover before then ;D
@@DrIncompetent sometimes the age of the game really holds it back but i guess that doesn't seem to matter with how popular it still is even now regardless, your videos are a very comfy throwback and a nice experience, thank your for keeping at it

Haha, well, yes incompetence is potentially my defining characteristic at times lol. But you're right--I *could* complete the tutorial, it just took until episode 2 ;D Thanks for watching!
Your charcter kind of looks like me 40 years ago. Long bodied and short legged.... XLT shirts and 28 to 30 inch inseams on my pants. Wow, actual 3d graphics. I have a quest for you. Kill all the tutorial instructors!!! Prepare their bodies and bury them in your graveyard. Sell their flesh as burgers to the town folk... Note: One reason tin was used in bronze was that tin metal starts to change its form (one crystalline state to another) at about 55 to 56 F, which causes tin items to fall apart unless the tin is alloyed with other metals. The effects gets worse as it gets colder. Which is why tin roofs were mainly used in the southern climates, and copper roofs were used in colder climates.
@@DrIncompetent yea absolutely. more than 2x as many. you should play that blind in a video and then maybe do a comparison video. That would be super interesting to see a newcomer compare the 2; I don't think we've seen that before

Im not going to lie i just started rs3 after getting slighty bord of osrs and a couple hours later your popping up in my recommendations you KGB bro lol super happy i found the channel man sad im late to the party tho please keep up the amazing content liking and faving everything brother you deserve it 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Haha, thanks my friend! I am so glad you are enjoying the series :D We are still going with this--streaming RS every Wednesday. I hope you are having fun with rs3!
Got back into playing again and have been searching for a good lets play. Keep it up!
Thanks so much for the support! Loving the game so far ;) More videos INC!
This is getting popular on the Runescape subreddit! I wish i could experience Runescape for the first time again.
I know how you feel. I miss that feeling of wonder so so much.
Thanks! I have been and, in fact, I've had so much fun that I'm still going haha ;D Also: I'm not even halfway done with the quests lol
It's the best feeling in games, for me!
I am apparently quite late to this series, but I think I have found what I'm looking for. I look forward to watching the rest of the series. Thank you for the content!
Oh, fantastic! I'm so glad you enjoy it my friend ^_^ I'm still playing haha. I may have gotten hooked ;D
You have motivated me to start a Runescape 3 Channel. I have been a long time player but I feel like Let's Plays are just so far a few between and I love watching them. Thank you very much. Best of luck on your stuff. I will stop by your twitch sometime and check you out and say hi. Thanks again.
Fantastic! So glad to hear you are going to make your own RS3 channel! I think it's a great idea. I hope you can stop by sometime on stream ;)
@@DrIncompetent I just realized I commented on the wrong channel. That was my test channel xD If you could stop by and check out my first video and just give me some feed back. Its nothing special but any advice from you would be amazing. Thank you for responding :D
i want to see more runescape!
Haha, you will! I'm loving it and going to make more videos. A new video will come out tomorrow ;D
Just found out about this series and Im having a blast. Its gonna be fun catching up whilst training archaelogy
Awesome! Good luck with the archaeology grind ^_^ So glad you enjoy the series. I'm still going--almost to episode 250 haha
always love to see new players, I am working towards maxing all skills atm.
Imp catcher actually got changed a lot a few years ago and is now a proper quest.
Oh, interesting! I didn't know that...
Im a new viewer, excited that this series is still continuing today!
Hello! Haha, indeed! Over 575 episodes strong and still going! We stream RS every Wednesday ;D Welcome to the series!
Looking forward to seeing how your adventure continues!
Awesome! Thanks so much for watching. Looking forward to playing more and seeing how much there is to do in this game!

Oh, awesome my friend! So glad you enjoy it ^_^ 383 episodes strong and still going haha ;D Streaming RS live on Wednesdays!
Great! I'm so glad you enjoy it. I might have to try OSRS some day as people really like that one too... Thanks for watching!
Bro I’m literally going to watch this everyday 😂🤦🏽♂️ thank you
Awesome! 700 more to go and counting! haha
Lmao the closed captions show Vanakka as Veronica. He would not be pleased XD
Haha, that's hilarious. Let's not tell him... ;D

Whats up bro I just found this channel and I see you have 150 episodes of this series and I plan on binge watching them / using them as background videos while I do what I have to do 🔥
Awesome, my friend! I hope you enjoy!!! It's been a wild ride with RuneScape! Looking forward to 150 more episodes haha 😉

@@DrIncompetent Are u close to unlocking Priff yet?
This game has come a long way through the years
It's really interesting to see that from a 2022 perspective and especially through the different quests as some are updated and some are not and I can get a sense of the history.
excellent follow this series of RuneScape
Thank you my friend! So glad you enjoy it 😊 It is such a fun experience--over 50 episodes so far haha ;)
Haha, you're right! It gets better in tutorial 2 for sure ;D
yeah i hope to see more runescape videos from you
Thanks for watching! More videos are on the way ;D Gotta get this character off the ground...
i've been looking for new games and this one is good thank u

Wow Classic and Runescape are one of finest MMO's out there. Sadly I wasn't satisfied with TERA online, that was tad annoying with the path system. Wow is more competent though.
You can reclick every time you mine the ore when you get the xp drop, more xp per hour. That is mining rework for you.
Haha, I have thought about going back to WoW classic some day, but wanted to give a "new" MMO a try ;D I had a buddy do TERA but ultimately not stick. Runescape seems fascinating so far. Thanks for the tip about mining!
I still play Runescape even today. Final Fantasy rocks too! :P
Final Fantasy is fantastic! ^_^ Runescape has really grown on me haha. So much content!!!
@@DrIncompetent Oh dude defoes it'll last you a lifetime tbh xD

So glad you like it! More are certainly in the works ;) A new video will be coming out tomorrow! Thanks for watching.
Please do progress further. The charm gets better and it really becomes its own game with a huge amount of varied content.
I certainly will! Looking forward to it, as well. Pumped to get the "training wheels" off and set off into the world ;D
So I can fish, make a fire, and chop a tree without any kind of tool atm:)
subbed! lets see you get lvl 99 in a skill and kill at least 1 boss ;D loving the first look vid as a newbie, welcome to runescape ^_^
Okay, that makes sense ;) A more realistic timeline there. Capes, here we come! lol
Came from Reddit
Great! Thanks for stopping by ;) Hope you enjoy the episode. More Runescape to come!

Will you be uploading often? If so I'll sub
Yes! Lol, got a new one today and streaming tomorrow. Runescape is back on the menu! (Actually, it just got added to my menu lol but I'm loving it).
"wow this is very oldschool" oh boy you don't even know what's coming
Haha, I had NO idea when I started. It's amazing to get to see 20 years of a game all at once as I quest...

Which is why tin roofs were mainly used in the southern climates, and copper roofs were used in colder climates.

wow its so dead compared to osrs

there's nothing I hate more than auto-pathing/auto anything in MMO. whats the point of playing? lazy gaming
I tell you what, RuneScape certainly doesn't hold your hand too much. Some quests show the path, but many don't and require you to explore which is refreshing imo ;)
ok now play osrs
