Despite the cat ears being a censor originally, it kinda makes too much sense that Japan added the cat ears to all versions now given the obsession with cats over there.

@@charlieasalgadosalgado1369 People also prefer the combat and badge system than what the modern trilogy gave us. What put me off from playing the modern trilogy, is because it was nothing like the Paper Mario games I love so much from the past. Even though I love card-based games, I am not a fan of how Sticker Star changed things for the series. Sticker Star is basically a forced item-only challenge run, with zero of the unique character designs. Trading in that uniqueness for generic main series Mario game characters. As such, it's actually a problem to get into any battle that isn't "story" related, as it eats your resources. 64, TTYD, even Super, actually ENCOURAGES you to do these optional battles, as you are properly rewarded for doing so. The modern trilogy however, you get nothing worthwhile you can't get elsewhere for doing these optional battles. And you waste resources you could've put towards the story related battles instead. Plus, with zero leveling and customizing, the modern trilogy makes it so basically every playthrough of it you do is the same. 64 and TTYD however, had the badge system and levelling, to have you customize your experiences in battle. Also, TTYD and Super tackled dark themes you wouldn't see in a regular Mario game, making the story feel fresh to first time players compared to Nintendo playing it safe all the time.
