  • Bing takes a look at the new Folkcraft Instruments electric mountain dulcimer, the NT-11. Featuring a hand-wound single-coil pickup design, plus the Fishman Prefix Pro piezo pre-amp system, the NT-11 is a sonic breakthrough for mountain dulcimer players everywhere!
For the purposes of this first demo, only the single-coil pickup was in use. Bing ran through a pedal board including 7-band E.Q., digital delay, Micropog octaver and RC-30 Loop Station. The Bose L1 Compact (no tower) was used for sound projection at low volume.

Bing, so glad to see your playing skills have even gotten better than when I last seen you in Kentucky you signed a dulcimer that I have still to this day. That was in 05 and I still have it. Love hearing you play.

Bing, thank you so much for sharing this with us. I've been looking for an electric dulcimer for a long time. This might just fit the bill. Love that warm tone, thank you for making my dulcimer playing better. I'm totally blind, and your videos are very descriptive. Thanks for that, keep up the amazing tutorials and have an awesome weekend.

Bing Futch Hi Bing, I will definitley do that. It is my dream to have one of these. I have an Indiana, just to see if I liked the dulcimer in the first place. But it sounds nothing like this one. I will definitely go through you when I'm ready to purchase one. Have a wonderful day. I've never played a dulcimer with only three strings, I guess it's really no different then having two melody strings since they work together as one string anyway.

Great video! What do you think about a 25" scale for lower pitch tunings on the melody string like DAA/DAC or CGC / CGG for example? I like the idea of the closer spacing/easier fingering/easier bending. Do you think the strings would still be tight enough at that scale for those tunings?

One of the things I like about any variant of C (CGG, CGC) is the low, rich tone. That would be compromised a bit with the 25" VSL, in theory. For the tension, I'd have to play with some different gauges to see if that could be offset.

Now that is an Axe , Supersonic !! Would u happen to know if anybody makes Dulcimer Strings in .10 .10 . 14 . 24 ?

It’s actually cheaper to buy strings ala carte, in single packets, as opposed to Dulcimer string packs. Also, you can customize the strings you get individually for The Dulcimer pack sort of commit you to playing strings that you may not want. I recommend .013 for the melody strings, .016 for the middle, and .026 for the bass.

@@bingfutch Yes sir your totally right & I have a bunch of Electric & Acoustic strings I can play around with see if they fit ha ,ha , I like that combo U recommend .013 .016 .026 & is that ok with DAD tunning?
      I use a Teardrop walnut with stock .012 x2 .014 .022 now & soon I'll hear the Ocean in a different tone .

    Hi Bing,
Could you be kind enough to tell me how many strings this dulcimer has? It says three strings on the Folkcraft site. Does that mean only 1 melody string? My current dulcimer has 1 bass string, 1 middle, and 2 melody. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Bing Futch Hi Bing, thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Would you still recommend this dulcimer? I was looking at this one on Folkcraft. I was very impressed with the warm tone and multiple pickups. Thanks for all the wonderful tutorials.
