First, we’ll discuss the standard cap hoop that comes with all Ricoma embroidery machines. You receive two of these hoops for free when you purchase a Ricoma embroidery machine. This easy-to-use embroidering hoop has a faster hooping time than the 8-in-1 device and it allows you to embroider the front and sides of a cap without rehooping. Unfortunately, the standard cap hoop doesn’t allow you to embroider the back of caps and it won’t let you embroider as close to the brim as the GEN 2.
Next, we have the 8-in-1 device. This versatile device comes with eight hoops and can be used to embroider both flats and caps. Furthermore, the 8-in-1 device is the only cap hoop that gives the freedom to embroider a cap’s back and sides. However, it should be noted that the 8-in-1 device cannot embroider the front of caps, and it also takes the longest to hoop.
Lastly, we have the HoopTech GEN 2. This embroidery hoop is ideal for thick caps and embroidering very low on the brim. It’s also easy to use and has the fastest hooping time of all three of the hoops - making it a phenomenal option for embroiderers who are just starting out. However, the HoopTech GEN 2 can’t embroider the cap’s sides, and - at $750 - it’s the most expensive of the three.

I was told the Gen 2 does not work on the EM-1010. Why does that machine not have the same option. I dont prefer the cap driver they are so hard to hoop onto the machine and the stitching is up too high on the cap

When using sticky stabilizer, you should place the sticky side up so the cap has something to hold on to.
Hoop the piece of tear away sticky back stabilizer with the shiny side up.

I have a Gen 2 hoop. So I need to select a different hoop setting to get low on the brim? It is still too high with the normal cap hoop selection.
Hi! If you're using a Gen 2 hoop and find that the normal cap hoop selection still positions the design too high on the brim, you may need to adjust your hoop settings.
My gen 2 will not center on my machine. Could you tell be how to fix this.

what size thread and needles do you use to do the caps
Hi! We mostly see 40-weight polyester or rayon thread being used with caps, it totally depends. On the other hand, we see 75/11 needles being used but it depends on the design or cap you are using.

What is the device you were using to hoop the caps? The one that was mounted onto your shelf?
that is the cap frame that comes with the machines, you can mount it on any work table you'd like.
I just bought the Gen 2 and was SUPER excited about it, but I can't get closer to the brim of the hat than about 0.85"/21mm away. I can get closer with the cap rings my machine came with. I have the 2021 Ricoma MT 1501. I'm pushing the design all the way down in the embroidery field on the machine. What can I do to make the design closer to the brim? Thanks for the help!

Can you gen 2 with baby lock?

For the Gen 2 you didn't use tearaway stabilizer and you didn't brought out the sweatband, isn't necessary?
Hi there, since he was embroidering on a structured cap with the gen 2, you do not need stabilizer on very structured caps.

Hi Willie, When using the Gen2 cap frame do you use CAP for the frame choice on mt1501? Or do you use OTHER?
Hi Lillian! You have to use the cap hoop, you just have to adjust the parameters. You also need to remove the wings, in order to use the Gen2 effectively, otherwise, the Gen 2 will hang on these wings.

We used the HoopTech GEN 2 Package which you can hoop almost every type of cap with this frame, including strapbacks, Richardson caps, flexfits, structured, unstructured, visors, and many more.

Hi there, it would depend on the size of the Viking mn 1000, we recommend asking the distributor of your machine.
