Currently trying to be friends with my ex because we are best friends and share a dog. But it is difficult because of all the history and also my ex still wants to be with me so trying to move forward as friends is a struggle
I relate to a lot of what you’re saying. I wasn’t so young but I met my ex a few months after I turned 18 in the first week of uni. We were together for over 8 years. We did have a lot of issues, and we are no longer friends because she was very disrespectful at the end, but while it had great times, I really relate to not being able to grow. I’m 28 now and I’m still figuring out who I am as an individual because I spent so long forming my identity about that relationship rather than myself.
I have no ex because I don’t get in relationships ever🎉.

My first love is still one of my closest friends and any partner I’ve had or will have definitely need to be able to appreciate her for the lovely friend she is to me. In my opinion, someone who will cheat, will cheat-it doesn’t matter if they stay friends with exes or not. If someone is not going to respect the boundaries you set together in your relationship, the status of other relationships in their lives is not the issue.

I have two children with the man I was with for nearly 13 years. We split up several years ago now but just today we sat on my couch looking for a new sink for my kitchen. I think nothing of those moments because they come naturally to us. You can definitely be friends with your ex as long as both parties are on the same page. It wouldn’t work if one person was still madly in love. My ex and I have so much love for each other but it’s definitely platonic and I’m grateful we were able to co-parent and maintain a friendship over the years. It def took some work but I know I’m blessed!

I think as long as the relationship is happy a friendship can be; sometimes people fall out of love or realize they want different things and there's no reason to not be friends after taking a bit of time to find who you are alone. But obviously if it was unhealthy or ended in an unhealthy way it wouldnt be the right choice.

i had my first romantic partner when i was 19 turning 20 and even though it only lasted a few months it was very intense cause it was the first time for me and he said i was the love of his life so yeah it was very !!!!!!!! but we decided to stay friends and he’s had various girlfriends since (i’m 23 now) and while i do not feel anything for him anymore (i was the one who broke things off so i feel like i wouldn’t even have the right to still have feelings) it still feels so weird sometimes when i see him with girlfriends because i’m always comparing myself to them, and also feel weird because he was the only person who loved me and i don’t believe anyone will ever love me again in that way, and i haven’t had any relationships or even flings since him and and and…… sigh i guess i feel stuck while he moves forward… but he still holds a very special place in my heart and i value him as a friend, so i don’t want to cut him off but sometimes i feel that’s what i should do… yeah… anyway it definitely feels weird and even 3 years later idrk what to do :/

No, you shouldn't be friends with your ex. It will prevent you from being able to move on effectively. Any future partners wouldn't like you being friends with an ex.
My ex girlfriend, I don't see her anymore except for when we have to work together on the same shift (we met at the cafe I work at). It's definitely better this way. We're still civil with one another though. But my last day working at that cafe, will probably be the last day I ever see her. Hopefully I will have found a different girl that I'm into by then.

Oooh. This is toxic as hell. 😅 I love how "kids" before 30 really believe in exes friendships and explaining it to themselves as "every relationship is different". 😅 OK, I laugh but seriously... There arent any exceptions in this no matter how much you justify it people!... A lil hint: Just dont be surprised later that you keep MYSTERIOUSLY having problems being satisfied in actual relationahips. Theres one thing having a f-buddy while single, but the other is being friend with an ex. Its an emotional affair!
