  • Don and Brian Chan fly fish Morgan Lake near Kamloops, BC. Its mid April and the guys expected to use leeches and blobs but it turns out the fish were keyed on Baby Damsels and Mayfly Nymphs. Brent Schlenker ties his Ultimate Damselfly Nymph on the bench.

You mentioned the small may flies, for me here in Colorado, one of my go to patterns the first few weeks after ice off is a bead head gold ribbed hares ear. Its a very good generic calibetis pattern. Im not sure if ours are a little lighter in color then in BC, I hear you guys mention pheasent tails, but for me they are a little dark, done in the regular color. Ours even have a hint of yellow or orange some times.

Thanks for the info Tim and very similar to what we see at various BC lakes. The mayfly nymphs have a variety of colors, which we’ve found is dependent on the stage of their life and the lake water chemistries. Definitely going to try a light bead head Hares Ear Nymph this Spring 🤩👌

I heard that trout fishing in shallow areas of the lake's possible in very limited times. Thank you for your sharing the Tying, fish love gold color.

Yes, cool water temperatures and good food sources have to be available for the fish in the shallow water or they won’t be there, as it’s not safe for them.

Great video guys thank you. Question, what do guys do with your anchor ropes? Do you have them in anything or are they just laying laying on the floor. Trying to keep snagging in the boat to a . :)

We drop anchor and then put the remaining rope in a shallow plastic tub. Keeps it out of the way and clean.

Do you EVER consider not hanging the fly under an indicator? Like.... retrieving or (gasp!) trolling?

You bet. We try it all but may not film it all 🤪🤩👌
