  • Brian Chan, fisheries biologist and Stillwater Master, fishes the trout and bug rich lakes of the Kamloops region of B.C, just a half day’s drive from Missoula. He has honed his techniques and flies over decades to come up with a system of fishing midges that we can use on our own fertile lakes such as Georgetown and Browns. His presentation will explain the midge life cycle and outline the key fly fishing strategies to become consistently successful when fishing this prolonged aquatic insect hatch. Pattern selection, key larval and pupal presentation techniques will be shared with you to use wherever you find midges. Brian’s presentation will feature various macro images and video clips of the real larvae and pupae along with representative fly patterns and the latest materials being used to imitate these life stages. Best of all, Brian will conclude with a discussion of the fabulous stillwater fisheries found in the greater Kamloops area.

I was told about Brian's work a couple of weeks back while doing some naked line fishing from shore with a size #14 scud here in California. After catching a fish another angler saw that I was the only one without an indicator and asked if I'd heard of Brian's presentations before- I hadn't and I'm wondering what rock I've been under all these years! I love his passion and the warm personality he has. Thanks Brian for being so generous with your information.

Thank you Brian, excellent presentation ! I always love listening to you because you get straight to the point and really know what your talking about. I always learn so many new and useful things even though I have been fly fishing for a long time already.

This is the most comprehensive and best video I have ever seen on Chironomid fishing in the Kamloops area. Even the questions that are asked of Brian are top notch. 47:03

I am going to be at Quesnel Lake the third week in May 2024. Which chironomids would Brian recommend I use then, and which part of the lake would be best?

What is the best bug/crustacean to fish during the winter, under the ice. I'm in northeast Indiana, by the way.
I always watch your videos and really appreciate the wealth of knowledge you share.
Not many trout where I'm at, so I fish for panfish, bass, walleye, or whatever else will bite.

This guy hasn’t got a clue how to catch trout. Who in their right mind would use small flies like this? My grandpa showed me an old technique using a CIL lure. Best technique ever. Heard it here first🤓. Just kidding. Great video Brian.

He knows his stuff, but I find it depressing he seems to always seem to use indicators. Call me a snobby Brit, but this just makes it too easy. You may as well just use a float rod and replace worm with a fly!

Make no mistake he is unconsciously good above and below the surface.
