    Have used weedeaters in lawn mowing business since 2006. Started mowing neighbor's yards in the 6th grade back in the 1970's. Also used weedeaters working a summer at a state park spending many hours on single handle and double handled weedeaters back in the 90's. Watched weedeater line go from round small diameter .065, then .080, ,095, and .105. Then different shaped lines showed up like the triangle, the star, the octagon, and the twisted shape. There are pluses and minuses to each line DIAMETER There are pluses and minuses to each line SHAPE. For example, just because a line is bigger in diameter and possibly tougher, doesn't make it better at cutting. Larger line may be tougher, but there is a point of diminishing return. Larger diameter line tends to beat the grass down, and it also slings a lot of debris like rocks and sticks back at you or into a glass window, vinyl siding, etc.. Here is my experience. 1.If you use ROUND, go with a small diameter. I used .080 and .095 for most of my work early on, but ran short on string one time and had to use ROUND .065 and was amazed at how easily it sliced thru grass. The TRIANGLE does work well, it even makes a LOUDER shredding type sound, different than other shapes, but it has its drawbacks. Because of its shape, it can get wadded, or bound up inside the weedeater head. OCTAGON and TWISTED seem to work ok, but the main line shape I settled on was the STAR shaped. If you look at it from the end, it looks like a PLUS SIGN like you described. I like the smaller diameter .080 or .095 because it slices grass more efficiently. You can also get a few more feet of it inside your weedeater head. Using larger diameter line, especially in the .105 creates a lot of push back into the weedeater head, and gets noticeably tiresome to use if you have a lot of weedeating to do. A couple of HACKS I use. 1. I remove the weedguard trimmer blade. It wastes a huge amount of weedeater line. 2. If you soak your weedeater line in water, it makes it tougher. Weedeater line has moisture content new, but tends to dry out over time and become more brittle. Thanks for sharing the review.

      Even the best battery-powered weed eater doesn't last very long per charge, so get the biggest batteries and several of them for more working time.

    For years, I kept my weedeater string in a very hot storage building behind my house. Often, my string would break off inside the head, I would have to stop and fix it. I went to larger, different string, but over time, same thing. I finally wised up, I now keep the string in a cool corner of my garage, no more string breakage. Ever. Keep it out of the heat and out of the sun, people!

    I’m glad you compared them, you did a good job. My application is 15 acres of California foothills with Rocks, oaks, and barbed wire fence. I’m using it in a Stihl fs131 (bike handle) and KM 90r. I have ALWAYS used the Stihl orange line (.95) I just purchased the .105 Stihl CF3 and that Black Diamond.105. Your test surprised me. Thanks.

    • @TheLawnReview
      @TheLawnReview  Рік тому +1

      Thank you! Truthfully, I was really surprised too. I thought the more points a line had (i.e. Black Diamond) would cause it to cut more efficiently but I think there’s a point of diminishing returns. Also the fact that they made that line color black is beyond me. I cannot understand the logic there haha. Completely disappears at high speeds.

      @@TheLawnReview I watch a lot of reviews. And to be honest, they all do not turn out with the same result. In my application I don’t need to see the line, I’m cutting weeds and wild oats that are 3 and 4 ft high. Not straight lines, no yard work, just brute force work knocking down high weeds on the side of a mountain where my tractor can’t get to. I really appreciate your hard work. And your response is just icing on the cake. If you ever get in a field and do industrial, agriculture, or ranch work be sure to post. People like you are vital for people like me because you take the guess work out of what I should use. Thanks again, and keep posting, I’ll be looking forward for your videos.

    Thanks for the review. A clearer display or including that chart of the products tested that you showed in the video with names posted in your host comments would have been good as eluded to by other commenters, but I digress.
    What makes your product better than the Rino Tuff .095 Triangle?
    I was prepared to get a small pack of the Rino Tuff before reading other comments here. I have finally finished off a 1000' roll of an .080" square which didn't hold up for nothin'! I like the green because as one commenter related, I didn't want to see a bunch of orange bits laying around, and the green sort-of blends in to the grass. If this is every bit as good as the Rino Tuff, I'm all in!

    • @TheLawnReview
      @TheLawnReview  7 місяців тому

      Thanks for checking it out. Ours has three sharp edges whereas the rino tuff has softer bevels that bow inward. We created ours to be that specific shape because it adds more cutting torque, almost like little blades. We found the fewer corners the better for reducing breakability. But if you go all the way smooth like a purely round string (or even the Rino-tuff), you lose all the cutting power. The triangle was the perfect combination of both.

    I've tried almost every type of string on my Husqvarna 28cc trying trimmer my favorite is Shakespeare Ugly twist .105 and Stihls square line .095. also saw another test done and star shaped line is the only one that actually cut the grass and didn't rip/tear it.

    Think it's a case of trial and error. I use a Husqvarna 535LK pro combi, I bought extra trimmer heads so I have different trimmer line for different jobs instantly! 2mm is great for grass, but 2.4mm+ is better for the bigger stuff. For edging, I just use the weed scissor attachment. The best trimmer line I've used, was Husqvarna X-FORCE, unfortunately it's no longer available in the UK apparently!😢

    Really good review on these only thing that would have made it better is testing smoothness of cut. Lot of them tend to kinda kick back a little in dense grass and i hate it. Probably my number 1 think in picking line cause it stucks when you've got stuff that wants to dip down when you hit a thick patch and scalps grass or just cuts low. I use echo black diamond and crossfire right now the black in .95 and .105 and cross in .80. They are good string but i would like to find something in the middle that's durable and smooth. Hard to get that seems like though thinking about trying a thicker string on a pro torque trimmer to see if the lower gear ratio and less flexible string gives a smoother more consistent cut.

    • @TheLawnReview
      @TheLawnReview  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching! Yeah smoothness is a great point. I actually created my own weed eater string after this testing based on the results. It has been a beast so far - especially on electric weed eaters. Super super durable.

    • @zack6892
      @zack6892 Рік тому

      @The Lawn Review nice. I have thought about today it's hard to find perfect string it seems like. Running echo pro torque trimmer kinda makes it easier to run what is available and get good results though I run mine with .105 black diamond and it does really well. I am thinking about switching to the echomatic pro trimmer head or maybe the speed feed 450 or 500 and going with some .130 though I think the rigidity of the thicker line may eliminate the issue with it wanting to dive down occasionally. Gonna give it a try and see I been wanting the higher capacity on the speed feed 500.

    Round line is a 0.95" cylinder and edged line is not really 0.95" cylindrical - only the edges are 0.95. Secondly you do not know how old the line is when you buy it so put in a bucket of water overnight to rehydrate the line. Twist line or sided line will hang up in your trimmer head because there is lots of friction between the line in the head.

    Any shape but round is a scam- don’t fall for it- you’re getting less ‘solid cutting material’ with any shape other than round . Also, why he’s worried about ‘visibility’- if it’s an obnoxious color- it will be bits of obnoxious all over your yard

    • @TheLawnReview
      @TheLawnReview  28 днів тому +1

      What trick would someone be falling for? This is us obviously testing out different strings. Visibility is important to see how much line you have and makes edging much easier. That’s why we created our own string that’s green and isn’t obnoxious in your lawn if it breaks off.

      @@TheLawnReview well- I mean, edging technically isn’t done with a weedeater anyway. And the trick is, the company actually uses less material in the line, while promoting it as a better cutting option and jacks the price to justify their claim. When in reality, they use less material that breaks faster and dosent cut better enough to even measure.

    Little difficult to tell in this video but the tests definitely weren’t very scientific. A lot of variables at play with no way to validate repeatable results. The “cutting” test for instance depends a lot on line length and head speed, and thus tip speed. It’s difficult for me to accept your claims that the lines were just ‘eaten away’ when you really start leaning in to the tube and the line is clearly flapping around. This is also evidenced by the variation in speed we can hear. You’re never going to get an efficient cut like that when you’re constantly bogging the line down.
    Clearly some lines will cut better than others but if you’re going to do a comparison video you’ve got to take the tester out of the equation to make it valid.

    • @TheLawnReview
      @TheLawnReview  3 місяці тому

      The goal of this test isn’t to be super scientific otherwise we would have tried to find identical weed eaters from each brand. These are the best sellers and compares their performance.

    • @piezoman79
      @piezoman79 3 місяці тому

      @@TheLawnReview the title of the video is “best weed eater string: ultimate test 2024 which itself doesn’t even make sense since you originally posted in at the end of 2022, so that appears a little deceitful to start. I made no mention of what brand trimmer you’re using, nor should that really matter as I only mentioned string length and tip speed, to at least give each string a somewhat even starting point, and knowing how string actually cuts (hint: there’s a reason cutting performance drops off significantly as your line - any line - whittles away, and it has nothing to do with the string’s durability).
      I have zero skin in this game other than someone expecting some honesty and consistency in a “test” video where I only see you pushing your own product in the comments but no links to a head-to-head with it vs other top performers.
      So, sorry, whatever your intent may have been with this video, it doesn’t inspire confidence in any of the results to me.
