  • One of the most important aspects of Silat is the ability to remain offensive and defensive while fighting from a grounded position. This video covers the basic fighting positions of Silat on the ground along with the ability to get up while engaged in combat.
This video is part of my flag-ship online course, Solo Silat at Home!

The martial art of Silat has always intrigued me in its beauty and mystery. Ever since being exposed to it through movies and television, I had always wanted to learn its lethal movements and ways. However, finding a reputable Silat teacher locally was nearly impossible. Even online, Silat seemed to be a closely guarded secret. Everything changed after I met my instructors… and the world of Pencak Silat was finally opened to me.
Now, I’d like to offer you the opportunity to learn Silat at home with my flag-ship online video course - ‘Solo Silat at Home’. Through joining this course, you will gain access to a step-by-step video tutorial of techniques ranging from ground mobility & footwork, to solo pad combinations, and finally sweeps & takedowns. Everything is explained, broken down, and available to you for replay on your desktop computer or mobile phone.
My goal in this course is to demystify this mysterious art and make it more accessible to those with the passion and determination to learn it. If you’re a fan Silat and my work, then I suggest you check it out while this offer lasts - I promise you won’t be disappointed.

I commented on this post on Facebook back in the day. The Slamanator does a great job here showing the correct progression, 3 ways of doing this recovery. This is important.
1st, The Slamantor just steps back to recover. No need to kick or jump. The bad person is far enough away
2nd version the bad person is closer but not close enough to kick so you jump back to create distance
3rd version, you kick to create distance. You don't want to stand up into a knuckle sandwich. Slam does it correctly slamming his foot sideways instead of with his tootsies pointed straight up. The leg is a narrow target on most folk so it gives you more of a chance of connecting the correct way which is the way the Slamantor slams his kick in.
Why is the progression important. Never make your opponent a better fighter in a real fight. Hopefully if you get up from the ground you don't end up there again but what if you do? If you kick at somebody and miss with this recovery method you've provided information to your opponent which might mean you don't get a 2nd chance.
Doing it the first way might make your opponent think you are more tired than you are. If you need to create distance but can't connect with a kick anyway don't waste it and provide information to your opponent.

@@rebeccarea479 I'm far from a saint when it comes to the martial arts, as I've at times thrown criticism around carelessly. Fortunately, I've learned my lesson and moved on. Most importantly I've been able to look at the big picture and now trying to become a positive force for the martial arts I love. All my best, Rebecca... thank you for being such a loyal viewer.
