South American clubs have always been at a high level. Until the European clubs with all their money started buying all the stars at an early age. Until the 2000`s the great SA players did get to play with their teams, which made for strong clubs. But with the passing of the years the great players began leaving younger and younger. That left the SA without that talent, but with the money. Now many players get to play maybe 6 months or dont even get to play in the first division before leaving. So now a SA club produces great talent but the fans dont get to see them play in their countries..the only opportunity is with their national squads.
the most impresive move I have seen in football ever... EVER, done by Riquelme.. it is an assist.. he is going to recive a pass.. he makes it seem like he is stopping it .. but the ball passes untouched.. to his back.. NUTMEG a defender.. and gets to the foward... IT IS SO BRILLIANT.. AND HE DOES NOT TOUCHE THE BALL.. SO SPOOKY, LIKE A GLITCH IN THE MATRIX...
to my eyes, Ronaldinho had the Maradona touch (he really iherited his touch)... . but RIQUELME is totally different.. he is unique.. his skills and thinking.. he is REALLY ONE OF A KIND.
Thanks for doing Riquelme. Dude was my inspiration growing up. I loved so much of his play and learned the ability of staying calm from watching him play. Made everything look so easy. And about the international club game at the time. It really wasn't that long ago that the Argentinan, Brazilian, and Mexican league were considered part of the big leagues in the world. Including being first and second at times. It really was since like around late 2000's where the premiere league really changed everything. They had gotten tv deals to be shown everywhere in the world and really put in the work to advertise thems as the highest level of football in the world. Brazilian, Spanish, and Italian league im sure had a ton to say about that. But they had the tv deal and their advertisement worked. I mean they were a top league as well but they just also happened to have the money and correct marketing to create this hype. Also england was one of the first to stagger their own local talent growth by lowering the amount of homegrown players required on the squad, the team sheet, the starters, and increased the amount of international spots allowed in a squad. All of a sudden epl became a very attractive spot for everyone around the world that wasnt getting offers from Madrid or Barcelona. Also want to add because of this their is so much euro bias. Riquelme is up their with the best, so are so many players that made their career in the Americas, but because they played in not Europe, modern fans want to throw that to the side. Club football was so much different back then. In those times players had loyalty, football didnt have multi million dollar contracts that made players forget about their home team and go play for their rivals. That was insane back then. Their prime wasnt for Barca or Madrid, Man U or Arsenal, a lot of then it was for Boca, River, Sao Paulo, Corinthians, Pumas, America.
18:36 Messi got asked if he thinks he can play along Riquelme.. he says ´I gess ' .. and Roman tells him ´just say YES MAN, just say yes...´ beautiful.
there is a english doc movie from 86 WC. "HERO"... look for it.. but then you can look for the comp. vid of Maradona plays that did not end up in goal so did not end up in the movie.. there you see the crazy plays he did.. the magic touches, the murderous kicks he took... the monster himsefl.
GO LUKE.. now it would be nice if you do some RIQUELME SKILS comp. it is crazy... even spooky sometimes... the righteous entitlement inside the pitch... the lord of the game.
Adriano is a fun reaction to do with Raymar having a pretty good video on him, he had a hard time in life during his football career. Robinho is like every other Brazilian in the way he's not the hardest working and loves to party. He was the first big signing Manchester City made during their new wealthy ownership. Him and Neymar both came from the Brazilian club Santos a couple years apart and both dubbed the next Pele (He also came from Santos). Also worth mentioning he is currently serving a 9 year sentence for grape.
During his time at Barcelona, Riquelme said in an interview when he had his introduction press conference, Van Gaal took him to a room where he had a pile of videos on the table. He told him: "All these videos are about you, when you have the ball, you are the best player in the world when you don't have it, we have one less player". Van Gaal started to leave him on the bench even though Riquelme scored goals and shone in every game. Van Gaal is a coach who doesn't like players to have individuality. He lieks the total control of the game. So he put Riquelme in positions where he didn't play, until he got tired and started to take the ball and score goals. And that's where he was pushed to leave the club.
Van Gaal is a coach who doesn't like players who don't want to do everything possible to help the team win. Football is a team sport, my dude. If you don't like to plan of the coach and just want to do what you want to do, than you are unreliable and therefor get benched. If you want to change the mind of the coach, than you should show it at the training. He was a great player, just not a very good team player.
@@StephanSpelde Yes, it's a team game, but in fact Van Gaal thought the team was him. Must be understood. Van Gaal himself has said that he doesn't like individuality, in fact, he said that he would never have a player like Messi, and that says it all, he liked to shut down all players skills and he believed he was the whole team. Way better coaches like Guardiola say you have to give freedom to the players who have individuality skills, bc they are the ones who decide the game no the coach, No matter what tactical plan you have, let the players with the ind. skills in important moments and situations do what they do best. Van Gaal was stubborn. After some time, Riquelme got tired and he did what he wanted and he continue scoring goals and van gaal hated that!. Anyway, it was a delight to watch the Van Gaal vs Riquelme Villareal match where Riquelme was applauded by Barcelona and Villareal, because he made Van Gaal look bad, beautiful revenge. Some coaches need to understand they are not the whole team
When he raised his hands behind his ears, that was what Messi imitated in the 2022 world cup game against the Netherlands coach Van Gaal... The same coach that treated Riquelme poorly.
A few thoughts. Boca wasn't at Real's level, but with a player like Riquelme you always have a chance on the counter. Van Gaal's problem with Riquelme wasn't a management problem, he didn't want players who wouldn't do their defensive work. Playmaker has taken on a different meaning. Nowadays Messi gets called a playmaker because he makes things happen. It used to refer to players who roamed the field looking for the ball and be the creative engine, and the rest of the team feeding him and making runs for him.
Football is so big in Argentina, that when Maradona passed away they have National holidays...let that sink in, the dude was a legend so Big they swear on his name
Van gaal the Barca manger wasn’t the best to him so that’s when when Argentina played the Netherlands at the last World Cup Messi did the requilme celebration towards the butch bench who van gaal managed
I recommend reacting to Rogerio Ceni. He is a Brazilian goalkeeper who, in 2005, scored 21 goals... "The Goalkeeper Who Outscored Prime Ronaldinho" in @DailyDoseOfFootballYT
I personally put Riquelme highest with Maradona and Messi as the greatest footballers... then there come whateever player you want ... but to me, no one can touch those three.
Good video Luke! You have to react to this video: "Goles en contexto - Maradona vs Inglaterra (1986)" It's sub in English and tells all the context around gorgeous Maradona's performance against England in 1986.
Back in the day, South American leagues were much more competative and not so much behind Europe as it is today. Nowdays it would be nearly a miracle if they beat Uefa champions league winners.
nice, Search for this video Ray Hudsons favourite player - Messi vs Riquelme. By your type of body you could learn how to control the ball and pass the ball and also shoot and protect the ball by watching him play. You can practice to improvethose skills. He also made a video in a interview teachhing pple how to shoot the ball.
It would be nice that you check the team of Spain's right winger, Lamine Yamal, which is FC Barcelona that are now in America, playing preseason matches. Last match was against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, in Orlando. You could react to the Clasico, next Friday-Saturday, that will be FC Barcelona vs Real Madrid. It will be a banger of a match.
Luke, if you watched Messi Celebration against Van Gaal with the hands in the ears it is because Riquelme, Messi is a friend of him, even they both share birthday. Van Gaal never liked Argentinian players, he always benched Argentinians, not Only Riquelme, but also Di María and others. Van Gaal said to Riquelme that he was the best in the world with the ball in posession, but the team played with 1 less player at defense, the same he said about Messi, so thats why Messi was pis**d af.

Riqelme was a different type of playmaker to Messi and Maradona because he did not have the pace, he was graceful and more thoughtful .
Like Busquets
Adriano the unstoppable force... The fallen imperator ! The 99 shot power Tank of PES6
Adriano in 2005 was something Else!!!
