That STI clearly was way faster on anything with a curve - probably stock power....so impressive as heck. STI probably the better awd platform for performance driving for sure.

The golf is superior in rettiflies due to its powerfull engine, but ( and here im sorry for VW entusiasts) the lancer is a rally car and in the mixed is advantaged due to well balanced weight and balanced way to discharge it's power: the power is nothing without control :) Anyway, as always. good run ;)
Seems to me that the STI does better in corner and corner exits than the Golf R, yet, the Golf 7 has more acceleration and top speed once its on the straights.

Everybody is allowed to do his laps if he pays 29 € (27 € in 2015) for each lap. And so you have Grandpa on track who is showing Grandma the legendary Nordschleife and at the other end of the range ypu have people like me going as fast as they can with more or less modded cars. And every imaginable type of driver between. Even coaches are on track sometomes for touristic reasons.

Yes, I would. You maybe need to install a catch can system cause of the oil issue of the EA888.3 (crank case ventilation). But not every car shows that issues. Otherwise the car is very reliable. Never had gear box issues or other engine problems than the oil problem. I only did the usual maintenance, all good. The best car for all day and track driving I had.

But there's really no difference cause my (stock) motor mapping is for ROZ98

No mate. As long as I had the car I always was convinced that I personally have more reserves in driving skills than the car limits me. ;) So I never thought about getting more power into the car. Now I don't own the Golf R anymore but build a TT-RS as a Tracktool. It has more power from the fabrique. :)
Hi Maody66 - Question: I heard your tires making pretty sweet little sounds at several points in the turns. :) Did you feel the car could have come out of corners faster that day, or that with different tires you would have been more comfortable pushing it more? Did you feel the car was at its limit for each part of the curve? Tires were stock? Excellent driving, I could have watched another nine minutes easily - thank you for posting this !
With those tires (Michelin Pilot SuperSport = regular street tires) the car was on it's limits that day. With Cup2 tires or other semi slicks there is further approvement possible. But here I was on my driving skill limits and the cars limits set by tires.

+Maody66 I'm afraid that if you do race track use with you R, you'd better keep It stock: I don't believe the reassurements tuners use to tell...car's reliability will be affected. It's normal...especially on intense race track usage. It's still the Performance Golf Volkswagen made ...if It was sure and clean to make It with 40 hp more and maintain the same reliability, warranty, gaerbox durability ecc I think Volkswagen in it's top figuring sports car would have done It by it's own. I did tuning on previous 2.0 tfsi 200hp and golf GTD and had some issues. Just my opinion. I would like to know yours . Cheers and have fun
Emanuele Fox Good opinion. In Russia a lot of golf R and all of them stage 1 or stage 2 and live with out any problem. That engine can take more that 400 hp with out any problems. Dsg gq250 good gearbox and can take more than 450 Nm. Do not drifting on dsg and go not make a lot of launch and dsg live a lot of years :) Stage1 that optimal tuning level for golf r and math more faster than stock!))

Saw some comments in here that the STI has only suspension MODS and nothing else. Hard for me to believe. The R ( DSG ) is faster off the line, rolling or launching compared to the STI. Drag race an STI and a golf R ( DSG ) and the R will win every time. Not even a new model STI its a 2003 and UP model. I own a 2016 R and raced and STI off the line, won with no problem.

Not "even" a new model STI? That's exactly the reason it did so well. The newer STI's are slower in straight line than the older ones, because they're much heavier (power is identical). Also it requires absolutely zero skill to launch a Golf R DSG with launch control. An STI with its purely mechanical diffs and manual transmission is way harder to launch quickly, so your comparison sucks. It's the same with cornering, STI = no traction control and no ESC. Golf R has everything, much easier for novice drivers to drive at the limit.

Depends on the Subaru. This one is around 280bhp. Some (like mine) have 350bhp+.

Sadly I can't. But what I know is, he is a Pro Rallye driver. So I think it's less the suspension but more his skills that make the difference. 😉

Dein Kommentar ist der Inbegriff von Ignoranz.. Die STI's haben beileibe keine schlechten Fahrwerke. Zwischen diesen beiden Fahrzeugen liegen schlicht und einfach 7-8 Jahre technologischer Vorsprung, und das macht insbesondere in der Fahrwerks- und Antriebstechnik verdammt viel aus.
Spar dir also solche ahnungslosen Kommentare, damit machst dich nur lächerlich..
Der Golf klingt schon extrem langweilig... wahrscheinlich würde er ohne diese schummelsoftware wesentlich besser laufen ;)
Schummelsoftware gibt es - wenn überhaupt - nur beim Diesel. Und was hat der "extrem langweilige" Klang bitte damit zu tun, wie er läuft? Hier outet sich gerade der Experte, oder?! ;)

Habe noch nie von einem serienmäßigen WRX STi gehört, der da auch nur ansatzweise drangekomen ist. So siehts aus, Mann. Sorry!
