I finally did it! I made it past 10 Million on Galaga on the Namco Reunion Class of '81 Version 1.08 ROM on Mame64! Final Score: 11,611,770 Results: Shots Fired: 65,491 Number of Hits: 47,164 Hit Miss Ratio: 72.2% Stages: 842 Settings: Rank B 20K/60K/60K Keyboard settings were the same as last time. It took me almost 6 Hours to get that far, and it was also my lucky day, since it's my Birthday today and it's St Patrick's Day. So I got the luck I needed! I finally achieved my main goal in gaming.
I have another question if you don't mind. I repeatedly see you moving your ship to the far right corner to dodge the final wave of bees @42:09 for example. I think you would agree that 9 times out of 10 we dodge to the left and avoid the corner at all costs. Of course I can see its working for you but are you setting this up? Or did you notice this and take advantage it? In my opinion its a very risky move but well you're doing just fine with it.
I live an hour away from everything. I don't know if I can even find old arcade cabs anywhere near where I live. I finally bought a 1up cab, and I know it isn't really the same, but I kind of feel like I can at least play a decent version of Galaga. I also only have the nes version as an alternative. I know the quarter scale Numbskull machine is more authentic, software wise, but sitting/standing at a arcade machine is just more of an enjoyable experience to me. I wish I could try fast fire though.
Sorry for responding months later! You can actually play fast-fire, through the MAME emulator on your PC. Some players have modified their 1Up cabs with a PC and run MAME on it. Otherwise, you'd have to get an original cab and then just get the fast-fire chip or the Galaga Enhancement Pack (www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?prod=gep/galaga.html), where you can select between original fire or fast-fire and it retains your high scores in addition to adding extra digits to the score counter.
@@TheGalagaKing Fun Machine was a legendary arcade in Orlando back in the 80's and 90's so was the Electric Circus. Just curious if you ever played there. It's still an incredible accomplishment. The first time I broke 10 million I was in awe of the the fact that it showed an 8 digit score. I too wanted to break 10 million on this game because of the fact that I did the score on one man and if it wasn't for the fact that my phone died and I wasn't able to continue recording, I would have kept going.
Do you have the world record score for rapid fire Galaga as well? What's your best score? I'm trying to get up there but so far I can only break 500,000.
Hi Jay. The rapid fire variance from my understanding is more or less the same as fast-fire other than the fact that you can hold the fire button down and bullets will continually come out of your ship. I made an attempt for the record on this track months ago and wasn't sure if I was aloud to take my finger off of the fire button at any point in the game. So I held it down and the game ended up being a disaster. I corresponded with the record holder about this variance and he stated that you can hit the fire button like normal and the game more or less plays like that of the fast-fire version. Once I got clarification from him, I knew it was just a matter of time before I would revisit the same location that had the Galaga rapid fire board and go for the record. What can you get on the fast-fire version? This version is easily available in several of the compilation type cabinets like Class of '81 and Pacman 25th Anny Ed. for example.
558,000 is my best on fast-fire on a Class of 81. I think I can break 999,990 I just need more practice. I'm building a Mini table top Mame cabinet right now, so I can practice a lot more. I'm hoping by the end of 2018 I'll be good enough to make a run at the world record.
