    Admittedly, the beat just really fits the nature of Dandadan really well. I think it’s more happenstance that it was also used for Bling-Bang-Bang-Born than any sort of genuine laziness or repetitiveness
    Edit: Yeah, this is more of a “lightning struck twice” situation than anything else

      I fully agree. I was going to come here to say this: The music fully embodies the craziness, chaos, and catharsis of Dan Da Dan. I think it was true happenstance as well. Mashle: Magic and Mayhem-the protagonist is so gangster that Jersey Rap was very fitting for the second season OP. This isn't Jersey Rap, as the bed squeak is a vital genre characteristic.

    • @ziiia
      @ziiia 3 місяці тому +88

      this, this exactly. it feels like they began with a similar start point for both tracks, and while both have plenty of their own merit to stand alone as good songs (not just good OPs), this one feels like a 100% completely perfect fit for dandadan. vs w/ mashle where i felt like it was more "cool song for cool popular anime". and creepy nuts has a unique style, i dont feel like that should be a knock against them either.

    • @MartHommes
      @MartHommes 3 місяці тому +52

      Also, I just think that a lot of people don't realize that that's just how this genre sounds (jersey). Songs are bound to sound similar if it's in the same genre. But a lot of people don't know what jersey is so they can only come to the conclusion of "it's very similar" instead of "oh it's jersey, it's supposed to sound a bit like this"

    • @freddybell8328

      Lightning strikes twice isn't really fair when they used two very similar beats. If it was two very different sounds that were great it would be more impressive.

    Actualy that background sound in the 'dandadan dandadan dandadan' part is a clasic japanese horror theme sound.

      @@germanshepherd2701 What a dramatic comment for a small amount of music assessment. One should be able to discuss and critique music without resulting "eternally disappointed in ALLLLL" music as being the reaction to the observations pointed out by someone. You will come out the other side finding a lot more value in what you put in your ears. This is still a great song that deserves the praise I put to it as well.

    • @germanshepherd2701

      @@DrumRollTonyReacts lol I think because this is your video, you’re read too much into my comment and made it more “dramatic” in your head. Re-read my comment more like a normal person is saying it, and you’ll see your response, to me, is the one that appears more dramatic. i.e. it’s not that deep. I understand your critiques, I just think saying them a couple times maxed would’ve sufficed but it seemed to ding your opinion on the song more than it should’ve imo, which includes dinging the mood. No need for that, it’s meant for a much more expanded audience - a one-off in that sense - and it works great. Review the song based on itself and it’s own merits, not based on a meta-analysis of the band’s discography. That’s all I meant to convey with my message. Peace brother 🙏😁

      @DrumRollTonyReacts  2 місяці тому +16

      @germanshepherd2701 ....uhh that's what this video is. We observed the A and B section from a musical standpoint. Comparison to ONE song is not a meta analysis of their discography but happens to be somewhat in order here as the hype was SOLELY based around the release of a new anime....Dan Da Dan. It's only natural to include the discussion of Mashle's OP as Anime drove both their recent hits.

    The big difference comes through the tempo. Otonoke being 170 bpm pulls its intro into the realm of footwork (which is related to hip hop, ghetto house and drum and bass). Bling-Bang-Bang-Born (the Mashle op) is at 157 which pulls it towards house and breaks (to which I know I’m stretching it a bit). Plus, the song completely changes its feel midway through where as “Bling-“ more or less keeps the same theme throughout. Although they invoke similar thoughts, I think each tune is unique enough to stand by itself.

I asked in the video about the tempo differences between the two songs as well as a question about what people generally thought between the two compositions. This person was simply answering that. My videos are about observations of the music on a first time listen. You seemed to not like that I was the tiniest bit critical and somehow think its about envy. LOL, trust me I think its cool that cultures around the world are inspired by American club music and make their own variations on it. That is how it should be. Envy? In the context of this being written primarily as an anime intro, I think the repetative rhythm sounding like the name of the show that stays constant throughout the song is a stroke of genius. Its as if you can hear the name of the show you are about to watch on every bar. I don't know ofcourse but I suspect that this was deliberate and therefore some very clever song writing in my opinion.

    Good points Tony. I will say that Jersey Club music genre in itself has this distinct drum rhythm. For me its infectious and there is enough variation in tone, which here ranges from dark, minimalistic and tribal to chill, fun, open/epic/pseudo-ballad and finally melodic to the Mashle opening which feels more fun but goofy. Although someone with a golden ear which requires stimulation to keep the brain excited will find something like this almost copycat in nature which again, the jersey club genre is.

  • @firestorm3632
    @firestorm3632 9 днів тому

    Love your in-depth analysis, your verbalization and visualization of it for simplicity. Thanks as always for a fun one.
    I agree with the nitpicking part. There are indeed similarities, I won't even sugar coat it, core is as close as it gets, not the same but still a slight alteration. I think it is kind of love or hate thing. I personally dig that but if your works get oversaturated with similar pieces it may start to bore your listener in the long run.
    The thing I like about these similarities the mindset that lead to these similarities. Like humbleness and earnest effort of artist, having a little bit of inferiority complex towards themselves with their perfectionism, believing that they are only good for this one trick. Then without putting that single piece they made aside, they keep building on it with each piece, so each piece becomes a masterpiece, whole set of pieces become a single piece, progress with time between them becomes its core progression, core keeps expanding and more keep getting built on it. Whatever last becomes that one piece, squeezed from that giant one piece consisting all pieces. It also becomes the signature of that artist, %98 of the time you can't mistake them with anyone else for. IDK I see that kind of joy in that, very intricately done art through a whole journey it tells, fingerprint of its soul.
    Of course this fundamentally applies to all kinds of art progression. But I have a different admiration for ones having balls and determination to stick with THE ONE against all odds. It is their world, their story. Not just progression of skills or musical elements as compartments, but progression of the art itself as whole. Somehow that gives it life. Or maybe us humans reach a threshold where we see validity to see it as something alive. It is there though.

    Personally, this song speaks to me as a fan who's been reading Dandadan for years. The feelings I get in the progression that the song gives is like a microcosm of how it feels when reading the series itself. The way these guys make songs is almost like they were tailor made to star this opening for the series. The creepy (ha) instrumentals with thumping, unusual baselines and snappy lyrics transitioning into melodic strings and vocals. They bring out those memories of reading certain chapters for the first time effortlessly, and I think those moments have now been enhanced for me, since I'll likely be thinking back to this track on subsequent re-reads.
