The KX500 engines are unchanged from 1986 to 2004. All parts are interchangeable. A great mod for straight moto work is to replace the tank with one from an '88 250 that is a direct replacement, but is thinner so the ergonomics are improved, at the expense of less fuel capacity.
Try buying 1 in thailand! They're never serviced.....fucked to a stump and get scooter parts nailed on. Or theres CR250s with honda 150 or yamaha 100 engines in them for 2 grand.
Be careful, im old school, I had a 87 kx500 back in the day, It was point - turn the throttle and hang on for your life, The powerband was a monster....
I remember watching the rmatvmc video of the guys doing 5 miles of hell on budget bikes. It was an awesome video and would be great to see it done on 500’s
Your new KX vid is a good one. Looks like fun. To bad I don’t have my ol 95 er. After riding that I could never ride a 250 the same because they felt like 125’s. No power and you needed to rev them to the moon and I forgot how to do that and like it. Ps. When buying at Rocky Mtn ATV through your channel I still get rewards $$ I can use on future purchases. You should let your audience know that.
I will have to pick up one of those pipe repair kits once I can afford to get more into builds. Are you going to keep that front end on there or are you going to go back to the 46mm conventional forks?

You can remove the heat marks from the pipe with some basic rubbing compound and a buffer, I think your buddy got the much better end of that trade, your going to have to dump a fair amount of time and money in that 500 to make it a nice bike but as long as it makes you happy that's all that really matters, riding a 500 in shorts and sneakers, Hmm, makes perfect sense.

Lol when i bought my kx500 it was missing rear teeth from the sprocket. My older bro used to tell me they would rip the teeth off and I was thinking yeah thats bs.. but sure enough I actually seen it with my own eyes. Now run a super sprox streetbike sprocket rated up to a 1300 or 1400cc motor.
I had an 89 kx500 and it had heaps more torque than the newer models. I got 6ft of air off a three inch root on a flat trail at 10 miles per hour🤣😂. I blipped the throttle to take the weight of the front🤣😂⚠️ It would rip five nobs clean off the tire every ride .

For him to get running came back the carb I purchased went riding few times he said fan might not be running and needs rear brakes . I think the fan could be an important issue?!?!? Right Da?!?!? Can you make a video for idiots to troubleshoot ?

Even with my best condition starting bike, I still wound up putting about $1200 into it to get it just right.

YZ490s require a good amout of work to make them right, even straight from the factory.
