My 80 yo father had to fly to a funeral of one of his brothers. He was a pipe smoker, and never considered that his tamper would be an illegal item. Consequently, the last gift his deceased wife ever bought him was 'willfully surrendered' since he didn't realize he could mail it home to himself (he was also hard of hearing, and didn't understand when they told him). I'm sure an 80 yo man will hijack a plane with a pipe cleaner.
My wife had to voluntarily surrender a 1st generation Leatherman tool out of her purse and she felt bad because it was mine. I went down to this surplus store and picked up 2 that were in great shape plus sheathes for 20.00
i used to deliver amazon packages there. The staff is pretty cool. It's close to the airport so that makes sense that's where they get all that stuff. neat!
My late father gave me a double lock blades knife years before he passed. Somehow it got through tsa at KRAP, but on my return flight tsa @ KSAT kept wanding my leather jacket. That jacket had so many pockets, but they finally located it. I was shocked that I had forgotten that it was in there, after all, I was an ex-airline employee. I explained all of the above and that I could not loose that knife. The local police working in the airport went out before the tsa area and got one of the mailing envelope and handed it to me. I was in shock that he did that for me so that I would not have to go back through if I went to get it myself. I filled it out and he took it back out a and I watched him drop it in the bin. It had a tear-off tag with information about the process and to watch for an email. It arrived in the mail about a week later. I still have it, but not my dad. 💞
Surrendered? Don’t you mean confiscated? Nope. Calling them “willfully surrendered” must be what the attorneys make them say, so they can legally keep the money from selling other people’s possessions.
No sir. Confiscated would mean they didn't have a choice. Surrendered would mean they had a choice, they may not like the choices, but a choice none the less. If you are early enough, they will let you just go put it back in your car. But most people don't want to, so they just surrender it.
@@rickjames553 Yeah, but people cannot go put things back in their car if they got a ride and were dropped off. The two choices are surrender XYZ item, or don't fly. (I had one item "willfully surrendered" and was never given the option to mail it to myself. Perhaps that is a newer option given... (I very rarely fly.)
I accidentally had a Leatherman in my backpack I forgot about. They did offer me to pay to mail it to myself, but it was a cheap knockoff Leatherman so I just let them have it. It was definitely voluntarily surrendered. It was my own fault. You cant be mad at them for your own mistakes.
@@lovesloudcars I agree with crankshaft as I have been to the state store many times. It has state 8-5 hours, most of the file cabinets do not have keys but like any flea market, there are good deals if the merchandise is there the day you are there and there's not a sticker on it saying someone else has already claimed it.
They say you can mail it back to yourself, BUT you'll have to leave the TSA line to do it. You can't board the plane with items that are legally banned.
They are not "illegally taken". The law stated that you can't bring certain items into the secured area, including the aircraft, and that such items may be seized if the owner tries to do so. The chance to mail it back to yourself is voluntary and not mandatory. Moral of the story? Don't bring any banned items with you. Put them in your checked baggage.
I knew a guy who used to work there. He admitted that employees pick out the high end knives before the public gets to see them. I have a knife sharpening business and know what the public carries, I don’t see high end knives at that facility. If I do they’re in rough shape and extremely over priced.
Is that not illegal? Can a supermarket employee help themselves out to the fresh cucumbers and carrots and leave the moldy dingy ones to the customers?
3:01 Well, you can take power tools in checked luggage. If the batteries are lithium, they go in your carry on with you but you can definitely check power tools.
My cousin was a pilot for a major air carrier, and they took his little screw driver he had attached to his keys. Since he was an aircraft mechanic in the Airforce, and the Captain of the plane, he did his walk around, and liked to tighten any lose screws. He said, I have the keys to the plane, do you really think I'm going to hijack it?
What’s interesting about this place is other than the “voluntarily surrendered items” the tax payer has purchased and these items are sold back to the tax payer. It’s the same with federal prisons. The taxpayer pays for these prisons that produce goods that are sold at inflated prices to other government agencies and then taken in bulk by another company, like DRMO, and then sold back to the tax payer.
The stuff is stolen you can word it anyway you want. Until some guy drives off with your car, calling it willfully surrendering because you stepped out of it in the parking lot.
Tsa stole my leatherman, and I was just there to see my stepson got on the right airplane. I offered to leave the area but the "agent" refused. My guess is her boo got a nice leatherman.
Why old anyone just give them your stuff, they have to be sent back to the person,I call it LEGAL THEFT'!!!!!!!! They took my grandfather small pocket knife and he never got It back, they could have put it on the planes cargo and you get it back at next landing but they keep your stuff, legal theft!!!!!!
The solution to your problem is to try to read the list of banned items. If you have questions, ask one of the agents (there are usually some supervisors around) before you get in the line. That way you haven't violated the secure area and you have a chance to mail it back to yourself, as someone stated. Don't blame the TSA agents for following the rules.
Perhaps if law enforcement was made financially responsible for these vehicles they trashed we wouldn’t have so many junk government vehicles. They don’t pay for the damage they do to these vehicles. NO Standards and NO Accountability!

Last time I went, it seemed like they stopped sorting the knifes. I'll have to make another visit and see what they got.
Do they sell the knives by the pound?
I forget, but I think it was priced per knife.
We bought one and it was 4K still had the cage in the back 😂 painted it blue . It lasted for a long time

How about committing on the pricing?
