If you ever look at a lot of TSA captured knives you’ll know this to be true. Not a quality knife in a pile of hundreds. Clearly the good stuff gets pulled out before they’re sold to the public.
While I'm sure that happens, as someone who has purchased many TSA knife lots at auction with excellent (multi-hundred dollar up to even $1000+) knives in them over the years, I can say that good quality knives certainly do get through to the public. Maybe it varies from state surplus to state surplus, but I've gotten several $100+ knives just this month (an Mcusta Shinra Emotion Take, Boye boating knife, Middleton Ona, and a Quartermaster Qwaiken in Ti and carbon fiber). I've gotten many Benchmades and Spydercos knives in the lots throughout the years. Even custom knives, Chris Reeves knives, Medfords, and Microtechs.
It's almost impossible to get fired from a federal job, but stealing will do it. Even a crappy Chinese pocket knife from the auto parts store. Most people aren't dumb enough to risk it.
Let me see if I got this right, if you bring some contra-ban in it can be confiscated. Once confiscated by the state, it can be resold without consequences. Note that TSA does this for airline confiscations too. On a similar point, if you are discovered to have "significant" cash during a traffic stop, that can be confiscated as well.
Not exactly. Something that is legal to possess (a gallon of gasoline, a box of fireworks, a chainsaw) is not necessarily legal to take on a commercial flight. Let me know if I'm going too fast for you.
The person that owns the item that is prohibited to go on the plane has options. You can go put it in your car, hand it off to a person who is seeing you off, mail it back to yourself put it in check baggage. It is their choice to surrender it.
When I see a piece like this, I often wonder if it was a slow news day, or did the place give the station a kick back to run a commercial on their behalf. Especially for a 'short drive up I-35'. Can't we find places like that here within Bexar County that we don't have to go 100 miles to visit?
You know this is been going on since 9/11. I have a crazy idea why don't they have mailers right there where you can mail it back to yourself. Even better have some sort of post office rep right there where oh you have this on you would you like to come to the side here and put it in a package and pay real quick. This could be done and everybody could make the flight No Doubt. Before anyone says this would be impossible.
@jamesspalten5977 okay why can't I have a Post Office right there to make money on it for the system. Let's think about it like that. UPS FedEx who would love a kiosk right there. Crazy when logic breaks in. Cuz that would make too much sense right they get their knife back somebody makes money stockholders make money people retire oh damn it big thinking. Too much for this channel
@@larynOneka8080 If ppl never come to get there stuff then it isn't. plus if you try to bring things on the plane that u know aren't allowed (aka knives etc) they shame on u. They do give you the option to mail the item if you want. I know this bc it happened to me. So if I didn't mail it, that was my choice and it is surrendered. meaning they can do what they want to do with it. So, no it is not theft.
Cheers From Canada . My hubby wants to go to Austin and check this place out. I don't think we have anything here in Canada like that Looks massive ... I , myself , would like to go to Austin to have my picture taken beside the Stevie Ray Vaughan's statue . God Bless Texas !!
Bless you for wanting to visit Texas. Austin, however, might be a disappointment - especially if you don't enjoy sitting in traffic. I would suggest you try to make the most of your trip by planning to visit other interesting places as well.
If your husband likes used tools, there is a place in Denver that sells used tools. I can't remember the name of the place. They have a video here on UA-cam. You might Google it as well.

No, they're voluntarily surrendered. You're given the option of putting it in one of your carryons and checking that, taking it to your car in the parking lot, mailing it home, or handing it off to someone who isn't entering the checkpoint. If all those choices are unappealing to you, then don't bring it.
Pretty sure TSA pockets the choice knives and folding tools for themselves

Ridiculous. Government confiscation.
This guy sounds like he's reporting from his bedroom after lights out
A short drive up 35?!?! Yea right!
A Three hour tour just to get there ,,,,,,
At 3am it is!
@ lol
Wait until TxDot starts removing the upper deck of I-35 going through Austin. Just like the Texas Education Agency.....they know what they're doing.
I wonder if it was the reporter's first assignment in which he got to talk? He certainly got himself pumped up for the report!
Wish every state made their surplus sales this accessible, decent stuff for cheap hard to beat that.

@@Gator777 TSA should have flat-rate USPS boxes available to save one's expensive items from being stolen by the government.

Actually there is not a lot of great deals there! It depends on what you are willing to spend on something used!

Somehow this doesn't seem right!
Ever go there
This is pretty interesting. Too bad the announcer person is out of breath. Do they need some oxygen?
Ripping off the public
This narrator is painfully over the top. Chill, dude.
Been there. Its mostly junk.
This place is a joke
They shouldn't be selling this stuff. Anything other than destroying it is theft
TSA theft
