- Unboxing and testing the Unihertz Jelly 2, a super-compact, teeny 3-inch Android smartphone - one of the best (and only) small phones of 2021. As well as being mini, the Jelly 2 is a fully featured device boasting a working camera, full Play Store access etc. If you want the perfect antidote to all those big blowers, look no further.
I've reviewed quite a few 'compact' phones lately including the Sony Xperia 5 ii and iPhone 12 Mini, but this is easily the most pocket-friendly. The Unihertz Jelly 2 packs in a - Наука та технологія

You phone you are thinking of is the Palm Pre. Less than 4 inches, looks a lot like this one. Slide out keyboard. Wireless charging... came out over a decade ago. Best phone OS ever made too. Ah, if only that had caught on!
I''m glad this video was made. I was looking at Unihertz website and it seems they're making a smaller version of their rugged Titan QWERTY smartphone. I'm hoping they will make a slider Jelly in the future! Heck, even a T9 Jelly or something would be pretty nice.

I love how the Jelly 2 looks so old when its really not. It looks like it released around the same time as the iPhone 3G. What a unique phone 🙂.

I've had mine for two years now. With no issues whatsoever. Still runs amazing, currently on Android 11. The only con is that typing took some time getting used to. But it is totally worth it, it's a great way to detox. The battery is still good too. Highly recommend this tiny beast of a phone for a minimalist lifestyle. I hope it gets an Android 12 upgrade further down the road.

what carrier or sim did you use to get it to work?
@@lisarhockensmith423 I live in Sweden, so any carrier would work here. However i would not recommend this phone, or any Unihertz product anymore.
They only get 1 update if you are lucky. I bought my Jelly 2 in the summer of 21, and it got it's last security update Jan 22.
My banking security app started to warn me not to use the phone for banking because the risk of security breaches is too high. Since Sweden is a high security country authority's are very picky.
It's a shame really, because it's the best flawless smart phone iv'e ever had. But if you a planning to use it solely as a dumb phone you should me fine i suppose.
Got mine last week. So far so good as my daily phone. It's even smaller than what i imagined and typing takes some getting used to but all good. Loving it so far and it's sure to start conversation anywhere you go!
Chris was so proud of winning. getting the last kill, and MVP on this small screen I'm smiling when I saw that. Also reminded me of my first smartphone, the Xperia X8, which I think was a 3 inch phone as well. Have no idea how I survived that small screen almost a decade ago...for three years!

I've been using Jelly 2 since December 2020. Love the phone. For me, everything works perfectly--WiFi, Bluetooth, Fingerprint (set it up for both hands), QR. Unihertz just provided a security update (May 5, 2021)--but considering their track record, it's probably the last security update I'll see. They are supposed to update to Android 11 at some point. I'm a light/moderate user--no social media and that stuff constantly running, so I can get at least 2 days of battery life with light game playing (not action games). I use a different keyboard app (Big Buttons by Chicago Logic). The downside is that it doesn't have a removable battery. I have T-Mobile in US.

On facebook there is a Jelly 2 group noting they are testing Android 11. No release date yet

Check out the Unihertz Atom, a bit bigger and more practical, still compact though.
Not only is it good size BUT it also has everything you'll possibly need and more (infrared, headphone jack (!!), expandable memory, fingerprint sensor, NFC, decent CPU/RAM....) and all for such a low low price
What a phone. Great to see a little device back on the market. Good phone for watching IPTV without any blur.... ha ha ha.....Great stuff Chris.
I'd kind of like to see a full review of this phone, it'd be interesting to see your thoughts of the Jelly 2 after using it as a daily driver for a few days.
As one who's been using it daily for some months... My only pain point is the typing. Tapping is pretty hard but swiping is good enough mostly. I typed this comment out on it only making one mistake. Otherwise it's perfect even for a main phone.
I've got one too. Typing pain can be reduced using swipe gesture typing on the keyboard. Since this vid it's had a security update (but no Android 11 ... yet?). The fingerprint sensor is the flakiest most useless thing ever. And the bluetooth sometimes goes weird but they claim to be fixing it. I'm quite happy with mine (especially over the Jelly 1) and have been using it as a daily driver since I got it!
UPDATED to android 11 and Unihertz did an update as well. Fingerprint works 95% of the time for me. Added two of the same finger prints. Has issues when finger is wet/sweaty so dry first. Seems like finger print reader got better with updates. GPS is a bit glitchy in doors. Use swift key, it will save you a headache.

@@ar-t2742 Since I have zero interest in or use for 5G, I'm keeping mine until it won't function any longer. For me, it's perfect, but enjoy the Jelly 2 if you go that route! 😎

@@ar-t2742 Nice! I'm planning to go in the opposite direction next year with a used S21 Ultra, not as my daily driver, but to utilize the fantastic cameras and stabilization it has for travel videography. It's huge, but still way more user friendly than a dedicated mirrorless camera.
I've been searching for a tiny phone that uses Android and your test run of this convinced me. I need a tiny phone for work, that won't take up too much space on my utility holster
Finally, I can enjoy Tenet the way it was meant to be seen!

the quality of this phone is magnificent 😭 especially the camera and how smooth the ui is
UI is actually good and looks even smoother than most android phones
hot damn! I've had my eye on the Jelly for a couple of years and I think this is the first real review I've found. I find it very appealing as it's actually a reasonable choice as a mobile PHONE that can still support smartphone extras (especially gps) in a pinch.
FFS if anyone would just make a simple 5 inch phone I'd be in freaking heaven.

What do you do when you get a new android phone - could you do a video with you setting one up from scratch? - settings, launchers, some of your fav apps
Some feedback:
1. Would've been nice to know how many hours the battery lasts, mAh is pretty meaningless as it depends on battery drain
2. Would've been nice to see the front/back photos you took on the video full screen to see how it fares
3. How well does swipe typing work?
For the keyboard problem,
What about trying to install SwiftKey and resize the layout a bit larger?

I have one of these as my primary phone. If you don't want to spend your life on your phone but need spotify, slack, and other occasional apps not available on a dumb-phone - the Jelly 2 is nice and compact. I was delighted that it was small enough to fit in an old belt phone holster; freeing up an entire pocket, and the ability to sit down.
The price point is like a _tenth_ of some flagships. I do recommend using decent earbuds for better call quality, though. If you are willing to trust the machine gods, there's also voice typing to reduce the headache of tiny on-screen keyboards.
Thank you for your input!! I'm realllyyyy tempted to switch over to this from my iphone 11 pro. I am tired of apple and phablet phones that don't fit in my pockets or can't be used with one hand. Like you mentioned some of the "smart" flip phones are tempting but I need apps that won't run Kaios.

Loved my Straight Talk LG Zip, a compact smart phone with a sliding keyboard, & a touch screen that was 3.2 inches. Wished a newer version of something similar to it would exist.
This is actually a quite good compact phone i can see so far 🔥
I wish jelly 3 comes with the latest android and software features and we witness 4.5 inch display

I was hoping we would start to see more small (but not this small) Android phones when the iPhone mini was released, but that doesn't seem to have happened. The iPhone mini is such a nice sized device.
Voice control via the custom button seems like it would help a bunch for texting, etc. Nice little backup or weekender. 👍

Great idea for a secondary phone. For sports etc. Specially if you increase 10x the cuteness by using those apps that puts a black round angle in the four corners of the screen.
This reminds me of my 4 inch LG phone I had for over 6 years.

Hi Chris, did you have to pay VAT getting this phone in the UK? I'm considering buying a Unihertz phone but my decision could be affected by whether I need to pay VAT. A 20% increase in price is nothing to sneeze at.

As much as I like a compact form-factor phone, I think 3" is just a little too far in that direction.
My current has 4½", and that is about as small as I want to go.
But, it was interesting seeing something at that scale.
The Nokia 1 was 4½ inches and was a splendid little phone and virtually unbreakable. It ran Android Go admittedly, but it was very smooth and fluid. Alas I lost mine and now use the Nokia 5.3 which is a pretty good phone but at 6 5 inches it's just too big to carry around.
@@martydav9475 yeah i got a 5.3 and went back and borrow my GF old samsung s7 and i LOVE it. 5.1" is perfect for me, i can even put the phone in my jeans pockets.

I backed the Jelly Pro project and get my phone on sep/2017 before it officially launches on the market and still using it as my backup phone (and when I dress up) it works great today, I changed the battery once since I order it with 3 and have a spare one yet.
What situations do you use this phone for?

I have just bought this as part of a smartphone detox. I need a smartphone but don't want to be pulled in as much as I am by a modern phablet. I think this should help. It does what you need without the temptation hopefully.

Arguement for one of these and something like an ipad mini and just using the jelly as a hotspot when out and about... seen them as cheap as £150 in the UK.
Exactly, I have a high end tablet and really just use my phone as a hotspot when it comes to the internet. I don't want to watch a movie on a phone screen so it is really annoying being forced to carry around these bulky phones because for so long that has been the only thing out there on the market.

One of these would be great for listening to music when out jogging or walking instead of dragging around a huge brick.
Especially with 128 GBs of storage.
Just use a dedicated music player. They're cheaper and usually sound better.
HiBy R3 Pro Saber. $209 compact dedicated Digital Audio Player and will absolutely smoke any phone in sound quality. It does require a Micro SD card for storing music but everyone has at least ten of those lying around. It's a much better buy as a ~$200 music machine than any smartphone could ever be. I'd recommend taking a look at it instead of the Jelly 2.
Does jelly 2 comes with hotspot tethering? What's the experience so far sharing bandwidth with other device?

perfect phone for my purpose, i was looking for android phone that I can install baldphone app for seniors for my elder and somewhat with memory problems senior, a full android was just too big and a flip phone i was not able to modify it so it always went to the home screen so my senior would not get confused. I strongly recommended for senior with a little learning impaired

I'm surprised how good people say this phone is. My wife came home today and demanded I buy her one. I never heard of this phone and she had a picture of it that she took from of her friend's phone. I expected it to be a piece of crap but I think it might actually be usable. She uses her phone for email, whatsapp, youtube, audible, music, and occasional reading and browsing the web so I figured this might do the job. She wants something that isn't big (at all) easy to carry around and will force her to use her phone less (which I see a lot of people saying about this...)
