    Used to own a 2002 1.6 Ghia. Bought it in a hurry after seeing my Golf written off by a bus and what a car that Focus was! Smooth driver and with the seat and steering wheel adjusted to my requirements THE most comfortable car I have ever had(and I've had loads) . Can't say a bad word about it.

      Can't really argue. Bought a 2000 model a few months ago and i haven't noticed the driving position at all....which must mean it's ok. Change all the bloody stoopid ford wheelnuts, check it's got oil and coolant and drive off into the sunset. I'm not looking forward to changing the cambelt admittedly (but then again, who does.)

    I own a 2001 Focus MK-I with a 1.8 liter Zetec. The car has 160.000 kms from new, and other than brake shoes and discs, I only had to replace a water pump, a IAC sensor, and the engine mount under the radiator expansion tank. Really reliable car, comfortable, nice looks, great ride quality, and all the factory suspension parts are still on the car, and no strange noises come from anywhere. The front shocks are getting tired tough. This one is a car I will never sell.

    I had a 2001 2.0 zetec for 12 years and put 120,000 miles on it, in all that time only issue was a failed alternator and a split water pipe, you can keep your BMW or VW, That Focus was just great, shame the build quality dropped with the mk 2 and even further with the mk 3..

    Love my 2003 Focus Ztech HB. Went from a Ford F250 4x4 to the Focus. Took some getting used to. In 14 years of owning it, only 1 thing had to be repaired. The ignition lock would not allow the key to turn in order to start it. Inconvenient. Fixed for $225. Still runs perfectly and the body is perfect.

    The mk1 Ford Focus was a revolutionary design and a great family hatchback! The vehicle still looks/drives relatively modern to this day! Also the value of used examples are really low in the UK at the moment with many advertised for under £1000 so know is the time to grab a bargain!

    I used to have a 2005 Ford Focus ZX5 SES. That car was very easy to drive from a 1998 Ford Contour. I was in a bad accident in the Focus. The other driver wasn’t paying attention. • @dungareesareforfools
      @dungareesareforfools 6 років тому +3

      I don't think this car was a copy of anything. In fact other manufacturers clearly copied the Focus when they saw how successful it became.
      The Zetec engine name was applied to at least two completely different engines in the Focus; the 1.4 and 1.6 were co-developed with Mazda whereas the 1.8 and 2.0 130PS were the older design from the Mondeo and Escort which was completely Ford.

      Yes you can! I have 187cms and I can fit just fine! Even in the back seats where space for legs is a bit more limited. Also, I would recommend the 1.2 Corsa C or the 1.4 Golf Mk4, which, like the ford focus, are very cheap! You can also get a Mark 2 Clio, but the space in the back seat is a joke, you can fit easily in the front, tough.

    The things Richard Hammond says about Escorts kinda fit the Focus family too, Mk1 being great and good looking car for its time, Mk2 boxier ,somewhat more modern and not as good looking, Mk3 loosing the edge allready and Mk 4 being watered down far cry of its now 20 year old predecessor.
    For crying out loud, the Mk1 was first in its segment featuring multilink rear suspension, while Mk. 4 reverts to simple twist beam for the less powerful half of engine portfolio, not to mention all the engines (except ST) are three cylinders. It's like someone mixed up next-gen Fiesta concept with gen4 Focus concept and decided to launch it anyway as not to make an ass of himself...

    So funny to me the difference in perception of ford between europe and north america.
    Europeans (brits especially) LOVE ford and regard them highly, while in North America ford is now synonymous with poor quality and breakdowns
