What animal sounds like someone screaming in the woods?
    Foxes
It is a sound that can be heard throughout the year and, although made by both sexes, is usually made by the female fox, otherwise known as the Vixen. Foxes make various noises for different reasons, but the scream is usually made around the breeding season. Screams are used to confirm territory between rival foxes.
Alone... I have to say.. you are likely safer where you are than in any city of the USA... ;o)

In my opinion, if your property lines allow and going off of your comments of wanting to be more self reliant in the future, taking into consideration the snow falling from future rooflines, also not wanting to have to redo work... I suggest that you give yourself MUCH more area inside of your fenced in area. When you take into consideration the area truly required to be self sufficient in growing your own food and if you decide to have chickens in the future you will need much more space. I know from my own experience that I underestimated the space I needed and had to expand my area. The shade from your future orchard also needs to be taken into consideration. I am so very expressed that you took the opportunity to move when you did. (I am also from Colorado living @ 8500 feet elevation). Keep up the great work you are doing!!!!

I agree. Once fencing goes up, it’s surprising how confined an area can be! For my garden, I thought I overdid the space…nope! Had to expand, but it worked out

Im a retired surveyor in NY. that's an ingenious idea how to locate your property stake ; secondly ; if i heard a noise that sounded like a wolfe or whatever ; i would just fire off a round in the air ; that would probably scare them away

I admire you living in Alaska by yourself! Wise not to look for that 4th marker! I'll be glad when your fence is up bc you'll be safer gardening and letting doggie out by himself, etc.

Fun plans! You should leave a small grove of 3 or 5 trees inside the fence for a little picnic spot. Would not be such a fire hazard if you cleared around them. Also, keep a window clear in all four directions if you can for observation.

In New Zealand widow makers aren't fallen trees, they're an accumulation of leaves, seedlings, flax's and nests etc that pile up In the crook of branches way up high just waiting to fall on some unsuspecting person going for walk! Lol. They can get huge, interesting to see other countries and what things are called!

Great plans happening. And creating a good ‘fire boundary’ around your home will make you safer. I’m in a rural part of Australia and we have 30 meters of clearing around our home for fire safety.
Hope all your plans go smoothly for you. You have worked so hard and made lots of changes in a short amount of time - sending good vibes your way.

    10:15 Hoisting Trick
Weld a loop or horseshoe to one end of a drillstem pipe.
Dig a post hole a foot or two deep next to what you're hoisting.
Attach a come-along or chainfall hoist to the loop.
Muscle up the pole, it's lower end finding its way into the hole.
Lift nearly unlimited weight without fear of tower failure.

I have watched other you tube creators who live in vans and RV's camping in remote areas say that best practice is to just talk to yourself or your dog if accompanied and that way the wildlife will hear you and you are less likely to startle one if you happen to come upon them..... if they hear you they will likely go the other direction... that sounds logical BUT I have never put that into practice ...yet LOL. LOVE YOUR VIDEO'S I am almost done binge watching them from episode 1! Stay safe and hope

I totally get it. When I first got here I heard Howling Monkeys in the evening hours and thought it was someone in distress. Can't imagine having to arm-up to go out. I am considering snake boots though. Lovely to see all the GREEN but it IS the MOST busiest time for sure. It's exhausting all the mental preparedness that transpires before the ACTUAL work happens. Lots of thinking it through, planning and plotting. Thrilled for you to have dependable and talented people to carry out your vision. That is the absolute Win-Win factor. That bulldozer guy ROCKED and no outhouses were harmed in the process!!! I suggest digging for two outhouses next go around with the dozer. 😉
Pura Vida! Happy Trails to You

For many years ago I moved up to northern Scandinavia and your scenery looks much like it, but our moose and bears are not that dangerous. There’s also something special with all the rustic isolate cabins in the subarctic desolate wilderness mixed with birch and pine trees that won‘t ever let me go. Some people refer it as a type of fever that catches them who enters this upper region on the planet.

This is such a great video. This was so fun to watch. I think I watch it a second time. I really enjoyed the part about the survey. I am going through the same thing, but I’m having to hire a company because I cannot take a chance with where my lines are. I have a private road and I have a part-time neighbor that is a vacation person who tries to say it’s his cause he’s an attorney he’s never ever here. This is what we go through. I live rural and remote too but I do live near and around vacation cabins or summer cabins. Those are the people that can’t handle living out here like you and I. When they come out, they come out with all their luxuries and then they go back to their little city houses. This is such a great video. Thank you so much for this!❤

But she going to pay someone to do it professionally I would have them out there doing the survey and and not you. Just tell him the width and the length and let them do the rest. That way you'll know it's done right. I would put the barn facing the same way that the house is. Now you and Kenai have fun but be safe. LOVES

Alone…Outhouse replacement? How about a “powder-house”, (powder-room / outhouse = “powder-house”. What about having a “lookout tower?” A small shack that has three flights of stairs (about 24 feet at third floor level), so you can watch for wild animals. Twenty-four feet should give you about a seven mile radius line-of-sight view.
