Just a heads up, I believe Viar recommends you have the vehicle running while using the compressor. The higher voltage of having the alternator running will reduce amperage draw via voltage drop, which could pop your fuse or damage the relatively thing gauge wiring.
Appreciate it. I didn't realize that when I first bought it but now I always leave the jeep running.
@@MootsKLAdventure just passing it along, but my 88p has paid for itself quite a few times, even helping random strangers at campsites that discover a low tire in the middle of nowhere.
@@philrab I hear you. It's great to have on hand.
*Great air pump **MyBest.Tools** Faster than my old plug in pump and twice as handy without having to drag the cord around. And it works with my existing Ryobi drills battery.*
I've been very happy with mine.
Definitely would be a handy tool to keep on hand. Thanks for the recommendation!
It really is!
Thanks for this! Just pulled the trigger on it. This was super helpful
I got this compressor, and am very happy with it. Probably every offroader needs this or similar.
It's definitely important to have some way to air up.
90% of reviewers here on you tube never mention price …. Why ? That was done here so thumbs up
Thanks, agreed.
I just received my 88P today, my second Viair compressor. They now come with the presta valve adapter.
Nice!
I use Grit Performance Tire Deflator to air down which is super easy and I just bought a digital inflator cheapy so I haven't tested it yet. I am running 255/75/17 on my Cherokee, I think you are running a wider version? I'm trying to get use to airing down though for trails lol.
I hear you. Its definitely a smoother ride when you air down. I'm running 265 70 17 so just a little bit.
Do you start your truck engine before you turn on the compressor??
I should but sometimes I forget to.
Trying to decide between the 300P or the 88P my truck tires are 35 X 12.5 X 20. Any insight?
I can say I love my 88p but if my tires were any larger I'd probably go with the 300p.
The 300P isn't faster, maybe a few seconds. The difference is in the duty cycle. It can run for longer before blowing a fuse (to air up bigger tires)
Will they fill to 80 psi?
I dont believe it'll do that.
I think the car should be running in order to get the proper voltage to the compressor
I hear you. I hadn't in the past but started doing that now.
Do you know how does it stack up against the viair 300p, is it worth the price difference 🤔?
I haven't used the viair 300p to give a proper comparison. Now if you plan on using it for tires larger than 32" then you'll want the 300p over the 88p.
@@MootsKLAdventure i own a toyota rav4 which has 225/65/17 wheels, but i would love to cut the time in half or something, not to mention that even though i still think the 88p i own does a great job it heats up and i have to wait for it to cool down everytime i top up...
I gotcha. Yeah you definitely have to let it cool down a little after. I'm pretty happy with the speed of it overall but I get what you're saying. The 300p should be faster but probably still would need to let cool after use. I'd say it boils down to where you're at on gear. I know I have to many other things I need/want to buy so an upgrade on my compressor isn't on my list.
@@MootsKLAdventure yep, you hit the nail in the head...
The 300P isn't faster, maybe a few seconds. The difference is in the duty cycle. It can run for longer before blowing a fuse (to air up bigger tires)
Always run the compressor with the car running or you are liable to blow a fuse on it.
Thats good advice.
The advice for running the car when using the compressor is so you don't run the battery down. The compressor max draw is about 20amp. Also the compressor runs faster with the engine running..Viair recommends running the engine. As for the fuse blowing.. the only time I heard someone doing that is when they have really pushed the compressor to it's duty cycle limit... I don't think the compressor has a thermo cutout.
Made in China. 88p is 75 dollars in my area.
I just looked and they've gone up here as well ($70 on Amazon). They are made in China. I was looking that up as well and the company is located in California but manufacturing is in China.
Even ARB, the gold standard of onboard air, is made in China
Not everything made in China is bad. I bought the Viair in the past and it works flawlessly, but somehow I lost it. Now I own the 88P shown in this video and so far I'm impressed. Viair is much better built than other compact air compressors you find on Amazon.
@@wturner777I'll drink to that! LOL
Read the directions, use with engine running…………..
