Hey , can u tell me how did that ice cream turned out if u tried it ? Please , I really want to make them but kinda scared cuz i can mess up anything 😂
I've made 3 recipes of yours so far (because i suck at baking and i don't want to ruin a nice recipe) i followed this recipe and i cannot believe how amazing this is! I made it with no sugar and it's natural sweetness is incredible. Loved it!!! I'll recommend it 💓
If I really want to bring this applesauce on a new level, I would caramelize the sugar first before adding the apples. Your Bold Basics are really incredible. My favorite is your homemade puff pastry!
It’s interesting to read in some of the comments that applesauce isn’t readily available in other countries. I live in the Midwest part of the US and applesauce is stocked in every grocery store. But I bet your homemade applesauce tastes much better. I will give this recipe a try. I can’t wait to check out your other videos too.
I didn't even have to watch the video to give it a thumbs up at the start, and this recipe is very smart! Good job and keep up the great ideas and resourceful techniques.
GM Gemma I love Apple sauce so every other week I make it. This weekend I showed my family how to prepare it and they enjoyed it! Now they will be making it too. They were shock as to how easy it was! Thanks again and stay safe Alexandra
out of all the things i've heard you say isn't widely available, gotta say apple sauce is the one that actually surprised me. i totally wanna do this though, maybe with macintoshes.
Kait J It really isn't! I moved to Mexico City about a year and a half ago and don't find applesauce here. Actually they do sell some in Walmart in a can but its not really applesauce and it's really gross. Lol. Thanks so much for this, Gemma!
Lovely! I like to use mixed apples for the best flavor, a cinnamon stick, lemon peel and a bit of lemon juice. I use the potato masher because I like it a bit chunky.
Thank you so much for making this Gemma!!!!! I LOVE cinnamon applesauce and I can't tell you how many times I've thought about making my own, but have never looked it up. This is Perfect! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!
I love apple sauce so much it taste so delicious! I always eat them and finish it so whenever I want eat more I can just make them thank you so much Gemma Stafford
There are some apple types that are better than others for making apple sauce in my opinion. They get soft more easily and don't need any mixing. I love when the apple sauce still has some parts in it :). I agree that applesauce is good basic cooking. Not hard at all and a great addition to a meal!
I love this video! It was simple, and to the point! Every other video I saw was way too long and they put all sorts of other things in the apple sauce that was unnecessary. Thx for this. I'm now a subscriber!
Hey! Gemma It's Amy. I watched your first video when I was 13 years old. Now your the best baking youtuber!! Do you remember me? I love all of your baking recipes!
Do you think it's best to peel the apples? Will leaving the skin in place bring any negatives? Another great episode, Gemma. By the way, you know you're a success when viewers ask you to do future recipes.
In my opinion, if the apples are nice, you can leave the skin on (just cut away the ugly parts). You just end up with a little more bits to chew afterwards.
Wow!!👌👌!can be use like home made jam!!..simple and time saving Recipe 👍👍 No preservatives...,no adulterants... and if sugar is not added thn its healthy enough too!!!👍👍 Thank u so much for sharing this!!🙏 May I know its shelf life???

This is great! I've seen recipes that sometimes use applesauce instead of butter, does it actually work well? (Also what would make a good substitute for butter in baking in general?)
Yeah, it pretty much works. If you're using it to substitute for butter or eggs though, I actually don't recommend adding the sugar when you're cooking it down. If you're just eating it, then I'd recommend adding the sugar and maybe some cinnamon or something. A good substitute for butter is any flavourless oil, or melted coconut oil works really well too. Softened shortening can be used in a pinch, or melted, but for flavour I don't recommend it. Applesauce is a good substitute [for butter] as well, but whatever you're baking will turn out more moist and a bit denser. Just fyi. Other good butter substitutions are: avocado and greek yogurt. Sour cream works too in a pinch, depending on the recipe (so, only in some recipes).
For butter you can use oil and greek yogurt. When it comes to eggs you can use applesauce, oil (1/4 cup of oil equals one egg), buttermilk or yogurt. One thing I say not to substitute an egg with applesauce for is cookies. Your cookies will turn out hard and won't bake as well, I tried it once and they weren't good. You can use applesauce in brownies and cakes, but not cookies.
Here’s the egg substitute chart with guidance for different types of recipes: www.biggerbolderbaking.com/egg-substitutes-for-baking/. Egg substitutes won’t work well in custard type recipes or recipes which call for separating egg whites and yolk especially whipping up either or both. When you whisk eggs with other ingredients together, lots of air is incorporated into protein whose structure can hold air and help the baked goods rise. Egg substitutes don't have this feature. **Flax eggs work closest to eggs in many recipes.
Check out all of the recipes here (www.biggerbolderbaking.com) there is a sugar substitute chart here too. Use what you normally use as a substitute! :)
hi gemma, i had made cake flour, bttermilk and corn syrup all worked for me. thank u. can u make jam sugar or explain what is it> its used in a meringue

Oh Gemma, it's like you read my mind. I just made this yesterday and then I see this video! If you can, could you do a video showing how to put this applesauce to really good use? Kinda stumped with ideas tbh.
I use it in plain yogurt with granola for breakfast. A pinch of cinnamon will spice this up for you. Use it with pancakes too, and ice cream. Lots of ideas really! :)
Gemma Stafford Omg yay! I feel so special to have a reply lol. But yeah, the breakfast idea sounds super nice. I'll be sure to try it out tomorrow! I will try to use it in my baking more now, since I made so much, so maybe applesauce muffins? The list goes on.

Yes, absolutely. Store your Homemade Applesauce in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Also, it freezes really well. You can freeze it in labeled ziplock bags or even in ice cube trays. I find it really helpful to have for baking emergencies or even to serve with pork for dinner. The sweet puree compliments pork really well.

Can i use an actual blender to blend the soft apples?
F I think so. Since after the simmer, the apple is very soft and can easily be broke apart with only a fork. So i think blenders will work.
Fayeee yeah you could. It’d just be more work to pour it in the blender and back into the pot
A blender will work fine, just make sure the mixture is cool.
Sorry if it's been asked but can you can this up in a pressure canner and store long term then? New subscriber love your recipes.

Can u substitute it for oil in your baking also and how much would use?
