Hard to believe this is 20 years old, still sounds fresh and remains my fave Franz Ferdinand track.
The Line about Wogan is Legendary and also it reminds me of Sir Alex Ferguson as Manchester United Manager 😅
Damn... That first Franz Ferdinand album is such a flawless masterpiece...
@Samuel Powell Very nice! Thanks!
@Samuel Powell paramores this is why also gives me FF vibes
Obviously
First 3 albums.
@@endoffate5475 While I don't disagree that the second and third FF albums were also pretty great, the first one was on a whole different level, in my opinion.
There is not one bad song on this album. That’s rare.
Agree!
And each song could be a single
Songs for the Deaf
Agreed...also Audio Slave, not one bad song
This is just an absolutely perfect song. Everything about it, I can’t imagine it getting better.
Nice PFP
@@TheScienceguy77 Thanks! Looks a bit like yours I think haha
@@BlueMHart The Line about Wogan is Legendary
Better than Take Me Out?
@@kiana.s_ Definitely!
One of the few albums I have come across where literally every song is a quality tune
Absolutely. They came and were a presence for such a short time......but how incredibly profound a mark they left.
It's one of the few bands in the past 20 years who, I feel, have influenced music as a whole...if only to a small degree.
I was 18, broke my collarbone in a bike accident. 6 weeks off work in my parents basement, listening to Dutch alt Rock radio for days. This song still lingers in my mind to this day. Brilliant lyrics, musical talent and style.
that happened back in 2010?
@@MrAlpaca19 This song is way older than 2010! It's from 2004.
@@armincartoonist Thank you! Franz Ferdinand is indeed older than 2010! I'm rolling on the floor, laughing that anybody could think otherwise. I in fact remember when "Take me Out" hit US shores, and I was already in my early 20s. Their tune was so alternative and youthful that it made me feel old.
I remember my parents playing this album to me when I was 6/7. We listened to it every day in the car. And still do. Franz Ferdinand forever.
Times goes by...?!
F**k I'm old!!!!
@@brunocirac Right!
You still a kid then ? This wasn’t that long ago
Thanks for making me feel old
All of the songs by FF have such a memorable tune
freeskier?
Ben Ňolas I prefer freeriding, but not by much.
+Mikael K ye, but you look like freestyle skier. :D
yeah they are the best at making super catchy, danceable and memorable riffs, such a fun band
Mikael K I know Foo Fighters are amazing
I love it when he sings 'All the clothes I hate.Oh Ill never be - anything I hate.'
This song came out in a period when I was young and started to listen to rock music.
I love three juxtaposition with the line "you smiled and mentioned something that you liked." That just really seems to hit me as such a weirdly and wonderfully romantic line
Too much JB guys!
Yeah for me it's that following line that brought this song back to my mind - the idea of someone squashing my negativity with something nice really struck a chord with me.
@@adamgw187 Same. As an adult, we often go along with the things others hate not to disrespect their feelings, but it's so much nicer to just share smth you DO like when someone's bitching about insignificant things hehe
the amazing ability to change the groove of the song at the perfect moment. That is Franz Ferdinand.
just the way he comes with the "You smile and tell me something that you like" is 10/10 for execution. top song.
Seeing the franz live was a life changing experience ❤
can we all agree that the choreography in this video is just AMAZING? like damn, now this is what I call a music video
Can we all just stop asking everyone else to agree on something that's based purely on opinion
The extremely talented band. God bless you, guys!
Love this song. Great guitar playing. These guys have an old school yet modern style about them.
@Samuel Powell Thanks for the recommendation. I will check it out. Thanks again. Have a great weekend. 👍
15 years later, and this still sounds fantastic. Clever, lyrical, catchy, uplifting. Perfect pop song?
This wasn't pop fella
@@LordCroker someone had to tell buddy 😂
I think the term ,,pop" is much wider than an attempt to describe the genre. I guess he just meant that this song has simple but great structure. Just like folks are saying that Cobain was good at making pop melodies @@LordCroker
I just love alex's voice i can listen to it the whole day
Why you can't?
This was my favourite band back then when I was like 10 years old. I started playing guitar to learn this song, so many memories. Still one of my favourite songs after 17 years
RIP Terry Wogan, was listening to this for the past week and just heard the news.
Rip Benny Harvey
Fuck Terry Wogan, he knew about Savile all that time.
Rosco he probably knew about Rolf aswell.
@@SlapTheMonkey100 knew about what??
How was he listening to this?
I'm listening to this song since 2004, just to find out in 2019 that it has a music video. That's like having early Christmas.
IKR? I never thought of Google it before. Guess I'm "that old"

Rock Argentino translated and subtitled. Like like like
Enjoy it and share
Maybe the best indie rock song of the 2000s.
@Trips sorry big man
@Trips my guy the comment is 8 years old there is a good chance that dude is dead.
It’s got some strong competition. Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Godspeed, Strokes, Interpol, Wilco, Tool, Arctic Monkeys, White Stripes, etc
@@rashotcake6945 ye
the stroke + franz Ferdinand is like the best combination ever
Pezzo perfetto. Voce perfetta. Non credo si possa desiderare di meglio.Charming.
I like how Noel Gallagher said he thinks Franz Ferdinand nailed Indie Disco
This song just randomly popped up in my head after many years. How could I forget this killer of a track!!? Genius!
Scribbled FF 4eva in one of my books at school. I still stand by this quote in my 30s 🥰
Haah !! 😍😎🥰😘
The bridge to each chorus raises every hair on my skin. Each bloody time...😊
This is the first Franz Ferdinand song I ever saw back in 2004 in music channel not "Take me out" or "Do you want to". Wow time has gone so quickly! I was in school back then. I thought it was a strange video back then but bought their CD in few years and loved their songs ever since.
They have such a typic sound and at the same time their songs hint at the whole history of rock music, im totally impressed
Best Franz Ferdinand song. PERIOD.
Some of the best lyrics in rock.
This was the first song that I heard from Franz Ferdinand, I was like 9 years old
+Josè Luis Vera Yeah me 2
good times bro. I remember pumping this on my headphones playing CS >.
+Josè Luis Vera and now they suck
The End
+Josè Luis Vera I must have been about 4 or 5
How old are you now, cara?
And Franz Ferdinand was never the same again... I miss 2004.
... The darkness of the matinee is mine... 🎶🎵🎤💓
outstanding music!
thank you for these vibrant notes ...
by far, the best song this band recorded.
me encanta esta rola aqui escuchandola en marzo de 2024 gracias a DIOS viva la musica
The melodies and grooves on their songs are so fucking good.
This would be such a fun music video to be part of
11 years.... VIVA FRANZ FERDINAND!!

AAAAA DAMON!
@@garden2571 2020 here yee bro
Old but pure gold.
The dance at the end, it just sticks to you
I'm from 07 and in love with this band and I'm getting insane FOMO from all their songs and live performances. If they're still so good 20 odd years later they must have been incredible back in 04
I'm 08 and SAME (btw Kapranos is so handsome help (༎ຶ ෴ ༎ຶ))
@triziaschneider I suggest looking into some of their music videos and live shows from the 2000s. Incredibly alluring man both in videos and on stage.
The recently released track, Audacious, was so good that it got me binging them again.
Pure brilliance.
And how cute does Alex look in this video?!
They looked so young then.. It's been a while.
I had a minor celebrity crush on Alex at the time this album was released. Of course it was appropriate at the time considering I was a few years younger than him, but damn do they all look like such babies in this video!
I keep returning to this - both the song and the wonderful video!
Saw the news about Terry Wogan today and this is the first thing that came to mind... RIP.
Well at least they got to tell him how they made it!! RIP to a legend!!
Why is this masterpiece underrated?
The opening lines of this song are so perfect
I can't believe one of the greatest leaders of all time is named after this band.
The Dark Of The Matinée
You take your white finger
Slide the nail under
The top and bottom buttons of my blazer
Relax the fraying wool
Slacken ties and I'm
Not to look at you in the shoe
But the eyes find the eyes
Find me and follow me
Through corridors, refectories
And files you must follow
Leave this academic factory
Will find me in the matinee
The dark of the matinee
It's better in the matinee
The dark of the matinee is mine
Yes, it's mine
I time every journey
To bump into you accidentally
I charm you and tell you
Of the boys I hate, all the girls I hate
All the words I hate, all the clothes I hate
How I'll never be anything I hate
You smile, mention something that you like
Or how you'd have a happy life
If you did the things you like
Find me and follow me
Through corridors, refectories
And files you must follow
Leave this academic factory
Will find me in the matinee
The dark of the matinee
It's better in the matinee
The dark of the matinee is mine
Yes, it's mine
So I'm on BBC2 now
Telling Terry Wogan how I made it and
What I made is unclear now
But his deference is
And his laughter is
My words and smile are so easy now
Yes, it's easy now
Yes, it's easy now
Find me and follow me
Through corridors, refectories
And files you must follow
Leave this academic factory
Will find me in the matinee
The dark of the matinee
It's better in the matinee
The dark of the matinee
Well, find me and follow me
Through corridors, refectories
And files you must follow
Leave this academic factory
Will find me in the matinee
The dark of the matinee
It's better in the matinee
The dark of the matinee is mine
Yes, it's mine
A Escuridão Da Matinê
Você pega o seu dedo branco
Desliza a unha debaixo
Do primeiro e do último botões do meu blazer
Para ajeitar a lã puída
Afrouxa a gravata e eu
Não devo olhar para você no sapato
Mas os olhos encontram os olhos
Encontre-me e me siga
Por corredores, refeitórios e arquivos
Você deve seguir
Se livrar desta fábrica acadêmica
Encontre-me na matinê
Na escuridão da matinê
É melhor na matinê
A escuridão da matinê é minha
Sim, é minha
Eu cronometro todos os turnos
Para topar com você acidentalmente
Eu a enfeitiço e lhe conto
Sobre os caras que odeio, as garotas que odeio
As palavras que odeio, as roupas que odeio
Sobre como nunca serei nada do que odeio
Você sorri e menciona algo de que gosta
Ou como seria feliz
Se fizesse as coisas de que gosta
Encontre-me e me siga
Por corredores, refeitórios e arquivos
Você deve seguir
Se livrar desta fábrica acadêmica
Encontre-me na matinê
Na escuridão da matinê
É melhor na matinê
A escuridão da matinê é minha
Sim, é minha
E agora eu estou na BBC 2
Contando a Terry Wogan como cheguei lá e
Onde cheguei não está claro
Mas o respeito dele está
E a gargalhada dele também
Minhas palavras e meu sorriso são tão fáceis agora
Sim, é fácil agora
Sim, é fácil agora
Encontre-me e me siga
Por corredores, refeitórios e arquivos
Você deve seguir
Se livrar desta fábrica acadêmica
Encontre-me na matinê
Na escuridão da matinê
É melhor na matinê
A escuridão da matinê
Encontre-me e me siga
Por corredores, refeitórios e arquivos
Você deve seguir
Se livrar desta fábrica acadêmica
Encontre-me na matinê
Na escuridão da matinê
É melhor na matinê
A escuridão da matinê é minha
Sim, é minha
Nice one
I am going to be at the concert tonight in Stockholm. Last time I heard the songs live was in 2009!
This is my favorite song.
This song is absolutely brilliant. Then this has to be the greatest video ever!
Ten years past and this is still one of the coolest vids and songs I've ever heard... And look how younger and sweeter Nick used to look (he's such a lean mean machine nowadays...)
Amo tanto esta cancion, y mas el principio😍👌 una de mis favoritas

Me too, sometimes... But with Franz Ferdinand was unavoidable! Have great day Joseph :)
No entiendo como esta joya no tiene ni 50 millones, se merece 10000 millones
This song is pure nostalgia for me ...
Got a chance to see them live in Philly a few months ago and they were awesome. They still rock.
all Franz Feridnand music videos are intersting.
come back franz ferdinand! i miss you.
Fantastic song
With them in my class, the time in school should be so much easyer 😉.
Greetings from 🇩🇪
Indie was hot for, maybe, five years? lol but it's still so wonderful to go back to and enjoy that weird feverish explosion of styles, emotions, hopes, dreams, angst.
Will listen till the end of time. Still bops in my book
Whilst I'm stuck at home because of this damn blizzard here in OKC, Franz Ferdinand is all I need.
love this song, love this video, love franz ferdinand!!
A classic one from FF 💙
amazing.
Brilliant song and the video is outstanding
.. sometimes I have dreams about my school days & wish I could go back just for certain memories/events - wish I didn't dwell but I wish I could watch this excellent video & be guaranteed a 'school dream' in my sleep, when we/life were all innocent..
I just love these guys and they made some fantastic music. They were all gorgeous too...... Saw them live once they were brilliant xxxxx

One of the best anti-mainstream song ever written.
FF all the way. One of the best groups to walk this planet :)
Por que amo todo de Franz Ferdinand?!!
Yooo
Masterpiece! Music and lyrics.
One of the best concerts I went im my whole life. I just love them.
well i'm french and i saw them live already 4 times!
every single of their concert is very special to me but this song is waaooouuuaaahhh!
they use to begin their shows by dark of the matinée but they don't anymore and i think that's a pity because it was a very special thing between them and us!
will see them in march 2015 in le zénith à paris, can't wait!
France loves u guys!

Common advice from anyone to an angsty teen. Just do the things you like. Fuck the rest. or like Chris said it: Fuck it.
Go to the school is awesome when is in the Franz Ferdinand way...a dance class...amazing
Simplemente es Franz Ferdinand!!!
This might just be my favorite Franz Ferdinand track
Every hour, about 70 people listen to this song.
This song is so wonderfully pervy.
Franz Ferdinand's Finest Hour.
It's so melancholic and beautiful.
I saw this on MTV, lol. Loved the song.
What year? 2006?
Bruno C. way back 2011-2012? I can't remember tho.
Ce sont des génies.
I have noticed a few similarities with the Beatles, when in the Magical Mystery Tour they danced Your Mother Should Know. I love the graphics on this video clip too!
Amazing live as well, probably the best concert I've ever been to.
