This is a tough one for me. The figure just doesn't knock it out of the park, but the character has a huge nostalgia value having been such a big part of the Sunbow cartoon. It's not supposed to ship until December, so I guess I have lots of time to mull it over.
Awesome figure but I only hope......the bright orange on the grappling gun...and the purple and blue weapon highlights...on that recent Steel brigade leader and twighlight guard dual pack ..doesn't become a habit..HASBRO NOBODY RECALLS THOSE Fluorescent 90s guns with nostaligia.keep em simple. Black, gun metal ,grey and wood accents are all we need!
I'd like to see some more gun metal colours on the weapons. I'm not the biggest fan of the fluorescent colour schemes. I'm not the biggest fan of the green ones either, tbh.
Alpine not having a backpack is a silly omission, but obviously not our first in the line. None of these figures should be making it out the door without a backpack. I'm not sure how I feel about this one, yet. The hat and the lackluster face sculpt have him teetering on the line of the cons overcoming the pros.
Sounds like we're in the same place with this one Eric. Dude's carting around so much gear, he needs a solution for it. Let me know when you make your mind up and what it was that swung you either way dude - always interested to hear. :)
His face does have a Little Richard look to it. lol And Yes the hat does look a bit too big. They should have given him a removable wig piece like Lady Jaye so the hat could have been smaller. Taken as a whole I think he turned out pretty good...though I wish the face looked a bit more like how he looked in the cartoon...granted with the goggles on you don't really notice the Little Richard similarities.
A removable piece would have been ideal. They did it with Shipwreck too. I can only assume that its a budgetary thing maybe? I can't claim the Little Richard comparison - that goes to my Joe Bros on Discord LOL
Great review but Alpine should have a backpack for his nice trove of accessories. The figure overall is good despite the fact he's too shiny for a mountain climber. The head sculpt is ridiculous. Take the hat and goggles off and he looks like Steve Harvey. I'm not sure if it's a GI JOE figure or an episode of Family Feud. 😂🤣
LOL Thanks for the kind words B-Rock. Appreciate you taking the time to watch & comment. I had to google Steve Harvey - he's clearly not the celeb over here than he is in the US. Fun fact - Family Feuds is called "Family Fortunes" over here :)
There is definitely something OFF with him a bit. I didn’t have him as a figure, but I went back and looked at his cartoon version. In the cartoon he looks like a white guy painted brown.. his face is thinner. This figures face seems to be more realistic and so it’s different to me. The sculptor made it more round and I think that makes the hat look chunky.🤷🏼♂️ The rope looks thick on him. I’m thinking:Get some nylon string and wind it up.. glue or melt it and put that over him. It may lay better across his jacket.. 🤷🏼♂️. The climbing axes seem to LARGE. I definitely feel like you gotta get this guy in hand to get a feel for him. I’m looking forward to it! Nice job Chris! Cheers.
I looked forward to this figure, but I am not crazy about the result. The head is wide and does not capture any of the V1 qualities. The head being wide does make the hat/cap appear to be a bit oversized, however, it appears that way on V1 as well. I am looking forward to kit bashing a bit, and changing out the rope for some twine or a more accurate version. I may consider changing the lower torso and searching for a new head as well. This is a 6-10 for me. It's not horrible but I am a bit let down.
Yeah he has a fat face and he really needed to come with a backpack to store all his climbing equipment. I admit that I would never display Alpine without his hat and googles . Great unboxing and review video Chris👍👏👏👏
Great review. I don’t think he is too busy though, quite like the additional climbing gear they gave him. I do agree the hat doesn’t seem to fit quite right but it’s not too bad though. Overall, I think he’s great.
Thanks Nelson. Fair enough on the busy-ness - I think I may be off the mark a little with that, I wondered if I was chatting bobbins tbf. I've also seen worse hats, so there's that LOL
@@MoDXtraGC haha.. you’re not talking bobbins, if it’s busy to you then it’s busy to you :) That’s what I like about your reviews, you give your impressions without shying away from any critics you feel are warranted. It’s ok for us to disagree on these things :)
No danger Nelson. Thanks for the kind words too - I try to keep it balanced on the reviews, y'know. Just giving the thoughts I would have found helpful. :)
Idw comics version mostly. They gonna retro him I bet. But the skin and looking like the older guys from 90's drama like soul food and waiting to exhale always looked like the cartoon version, couldn't tell if he was mixed with Latino or not😂 but it's OK if you can get pass the wide hat🤷🏿♂️ I never expect the classified to be like the retro, same name two lines. I like some of the up to date stuff in classified but when the retros drop I get those too but for displaying on the wall. I open all my classified tho. Mostly all the classified is the idw publishing just like the bad reviews on roadpig, just remove the stomach tattoo and he looks like the up to date art of him. Look it up he looks like a bulky bully from high-school football with a gut. But this alpine is more up to date with a bigger little gun, remember that gun that made the figure, yeah in the comic it's bigger now.
The 1st time i saw this classified Alpine figure i saw him at Walmart but they gave him too much of a smiling look face, they should've made him look like a serious tough gijoe, i didn't buy him after all i bought Storm Shadow instead
Alpine does look a bit better without that hat, oddly enough. I passed on this because I can't get on board with that head sculpt. Babyface Lando Calrissian is not my Alpine. I always pictured Alpine as more of a rugged mountain man, a la original carded figure art. Even cartoon Alpine has a more chiseled face. The brown/green/black just looks lifeless. Classified needs to stop making every color so dull and muted. All these minor criticisms aside, it does look very faithful to the original 80s figure.
It does. He just seems... wide? Yeah... wide... that's the word. I agree about the colours too - the Idaho print on his tee at least gives him some colour variety/flavour. Thanks for watching & commenting LiquidEntity - I always appreciate seeing you around these parts and am grateful for the continued support. :)
Well... asides from the fact that the packaging section is so long on the Classified fig videos because I do a little "comedy" bit around the data card. (Comedy in speech marks because opinions will vary on that LOL) I put chapter marks in the vids that you are welcome to avail yourselves of. That's what they are there for. :)
His head looks to big and his legs are to small. They need to be thicker/wider. He looks weird standing next to Bazooka and Quick Kick something is off?
Hasbro has dropped the ball on him. A messed up face and no backpack. The bean counters have ruined another figure. Damn shame too, he's one of my favorites. Hopefully they do a 2nd version. I'll wait for a sale or a 2nd version.
Here we go again talking about a bad head sculpt.1st off not everyone has a square jaw line and is really good looking...if I'm going to be honest especially black people. B people absolutely have these facial features. I'm sure gi joe doesn't just recruit good looking people. As far as over all figure....I'll pass.
Yeah -although I did say that there's nothing fundamentally wrong with the head sculpt, just that it looks wide to me and folks mileage will vary depending on their desire for nostalgic accuracy. Definitely an "opinion" element on the review that. Curious to know what your reasons for passing are - let me know man, I'm always interested to hear?
@@MoDXtraGC no it was a great review. I wasn't necessarily even talking about your opinion on him but alot of comments about his face. Ok he looks like the alpine some fan made in his basement. That's honestly how I feel.
First - thanks for the sub! That's super cool - I really appreciate that man. Second - I'm going to end up leaving you disappointed friend because I've not ordered Storm Shadow - the V2 just wasn't singing to me :( Finally - on the early shipping - I made a vid on this a while ago but I'll give you the abbreviated version... Hasbro made the Classified line a Pulse exclusive here in the UK some time back and left the Friendly Local Independents in the lurch with it. As a solution a number of the independents chose to keep carrying the line and import them over from East Asia. (Indemandtoys, Props & Replicas, The Whole Shebang, Kapow Toys and Comics & Cocktails) I decided to keep shopping with & supporting the independents - which became a win-win-lose for me. Win = the stuff comes early from the East (which is handy for a ToyTuber like me). Win = I get a better level of service from the independents. Lose = it's costs a little more because the import costs are factored into their price.
@@MoDXtraGC I think the head is completely off. Something about the overall aesthetics seems really off to me. For example, look at the GI Joe 25th Anniversary Alpine V5. I was hoping he would look more like that. The hat and glasses should not have been removable as well.
