- I hit the subscription goal in record time, so I owe you Trapper's cut ending animatic from Twisted Metal: Small Brawl. This is the rough ending I wrote for Trapper 23 years ago. Sorry for the rough voice, I caught the flu. However, I decided to get this out before Christmas and just pushed through.
David Jaffe Calls me a celebrity?
Also, David Jaffe takes a swipe at Vigilante 8. That's unlike him, I will give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he is in a bad mood because of his recent scuffles with Vara Dark DarkTitanEnterprises, Hypnoticc, and SideScrollersPodcast.
Vigilante 8 helped form the Gorillaz. 19-2000 gorillaz.
Bill Clinton mentions Vigilante 8 in his address to the nation.

I always loved the design that was chosen for trapper when I was a kid. I remember getting small brawl when it released and the character and car designs have entranced me ever since. Trapper and piecemeal always gave me a feeling that the designs for their cars was something really fun to put together. I’m excited for the next sub goal so that we can learn more about one of my favorite cars in the series. ❤❤❤
3:00 Im gathering that original bio for trapper was later reused for Hammerhead in Head-on with some modifications
It was probably a coincidence, but who knows they may have kept some of my old designs to leverage for future games.
So cool of you to do these. Thank you
@@anotherbig976 sure thing
Damn... that scrapped ending was lowkey dark as hell.
... So good!
That it was, if it were in the actual game I can imagine it would've been censored in some ways, I could just see adding in an additional scene of Trapper and Billy Calypso in the hospital in a few body casts look like they were beaten up pretty roughly and it has them bicker of how bad of an idea it was finding the Sewer Gators and end scene.
I kept the action off-screen so they could have possibly survived for a sequel. Also can't show kids getting the axe, Sony wouldn't allow it.
@@thegoodrichgames "can't show kids getting the axe" Calypso literally gets eaten by a giant mutant frog in the finished product 💀
@ True, maybe we would have had more wiggle room. I feel getting swallowed while by a frog is slightly safer than torn apart by gators, but I could be wrong.
Thanks for another video with the cut ending.
Waiting now for Piecemeal.
When the idea of the Darkside/Minion art being used for Trapper was proposed, I was skeptical, but dang those changes proved me wrong and it worked out excellently! It's also interesting hearing his original bio, and how it may have been used for Catfish in TM:Head-On
Great stuff man! Thank you so much for showing us the lost world of this game!
Thanks!
Nice to see what could have been and get some closure on this little corner of the series.
I see Goodrich is giving us an early little Christmas present huh? This one was by far my favorite of the cut-ending videos! I would love to see similar style videos like this on some of the other games you worked on. I appreciate you sharing this with us!
I don’t think SONY would’ve gave your team too much flack for this ending. After all, Mr. Grimm got eaten alive by demons in his ending, Calypso got eaten alive by a giant frog in Shadow’s ending and Twister got shot into space in hers. This ending fits perfectly with the rest of the game. Good one.
Anything goes off screen!
I can't believe, I didn't know about your channel before, and finding out you helped make one of my favorite childhood games, besides Twisted Metal which is Vigilante 8 I just want to say again thank you for helping to make these awesome games! Also just wanted to let you know I subbed to your channel, I guess you can say I'm going to start watching a lot of your videos probably binge watching, also hope you get better soon! Let's also say I'm trying to get into the game development field myself so it's nice to see someone else that's a legend!
Welcome in glad you found the channel! I loved both TM and V8, car combat was my thing.
Man, I love how you were able to repurpose the old Jimmy Ash concept art for Trapper. Nice touch.
In fact: I think I like the Trapper version better lol. It's very creative. A shame it was cut from the game.
The ending caught me off guard. Lol for some reason, when he said "I want to trap Granny", I was expecting Granny Dread to show up, but it ended up being an alligator (which makes more sense for Trapper's character)
Still excited to include Trapper in my TM web series at some point, since I had already mentioned the story/character is going to be a snake-skinned man based on Jeepers Creepers.
Though, I have a certain reason why he hunts people, as the story is set to be based around an old theory regarding The Creeper. It'll be interesting, for sure.
This is gold. So much cool info from such a gem of a game! Thanks for the Christmas gift! Loved the ending
Man Trapper's design isn't what I expected, definitely gives me vibes to Predator which isn't a bad thing and dude that ending is pretty wild stuff. Not to mention finding out more about the lost projects that Rich was cooking back in the day including the revelation of a lost PS2 Twisted Metal game on top of a Paintball Spin Off of the Small Brawl characters of all things, I wouldn't mind more details on those and beyond once Small Brawl is fully covered and complete for lost content.
I have been thinking of doing a Twisted Metal Incog cut projects video. Paint Brawl was really cool.
Trapper is my all-time favourite TM character in the series. If we get a new game, Trapper really should come back. Another awesome job from the absolute GOAT!
Thanks, Keh, I figured you would like this one.
SMALL BRAWL SHOOTER SPIN OFF? i am shocked, i would loved that
It was a very cool design.
This is absolute gold. Thanks for sharing Goodrich!
Always good seeing you here Drew.
Yay, it's my favourite character in the entire series! (TMB:O Minion feels like my 2nd, not that I've gotten to play it...) Having played both this game and V8:SO to death, Padre's open-roof design was appealing in how it fit with the game's all-terrain driving; similiarly Trapper had the feel of a powerful truck that appeared slow with normal acceleration, but more than fast enough if you tapped Triangle sparingly.
His lower homing capabilities as the playable vesion did suck, but it lended to a unique hit-and-run tactic while you go collect other weapons despite being a vehicle with gigantic armor - so much so that when Boss Trapper was in the level, using the gigantic version of the special felt like cheating due to how good it was 😂
As always nice job on explaining the concept art! I got used to not seeing an image for his bio, but the concept art repurposing plays really well with the "children in costumes" theme of the game 🔥
Glad you like both V8 and TM!
Thank you. It's always fascinating to know what may have been.
Thank you kindly!
Glad to do it, if people like it.
Great videos, glad you started making content!!
Great video! :D i absolutely love trapper as both a boss AND as a character, his design, his truck, his history, and especially the monkey attack, everytime i heard those monkeys go off i'd always have the response like OH FUCK! i gotta drive away! cause they'd always ricochet off the walls and do so much damage lmao, but he's an awesome character! i remember kinda wondering why he wasn't in his huge form when i unlocked him years and years ago, but seeing him now, i noticed that there'd be glitches and getting stuck in the environment n such hahah, but it was still cool to play as him! his name also does make a good password name for certain things! HAHA, i personally always envisioned trapper to have abit of a tall, late teenager aspect to him, like maybe a bonnet hat, a vest, camouflage pants, maybe the same height as mr slam? something that'd also have a jungle aesthetic too him hahah, but his red face mask, and the colored mask is cool too! lmao i also thought it was so petty & ridiculous for BILL clinton of all people to try and ONCE again put video games on the spot light as "violent" and having some notion that they influence violence, which is total bullshit, there was WAY more violence happening in america during that time then what games were doing, but fuck that guy lmao, vigilante 8 and those other games kick ASS! >:D
Glad you like Trapper.
Ah I knew that was the old Darkside design, but you made it Trapper. Also I would loved to collect those car parts across the levels. Would be really unique to the series. Hope to see Piecemeal in a couple months!
Your picks were close, I had to defect so you wouldn't spoil the video.
@ Fair enough! I did forget about Grasshopper, but the funny thing is she looks like Twister in the manual.
@@BigSlick98 The manual, which one?
@@thegoodrichgames The Small Brawl manual. It has some cut designs all over the book.
@@BigSlick98 Oh yes.
Jaffe had a trash take on something? I don’t think my body can handle the shock!
Now I'm wondering where TBP would put that cut ending on his ranking list
@@jamesesterline If he wanted to use my new cut ending for that I would happily let him have the files, with credit of course.
Banger
*jaw drops* Wait hold on, was that a legit Sweet Tooth RC?? That thing looks awesome!!!
Another great bit of lost lore, thanks Dave!!
I could see it as being maybe a hair dark....but then no darker than some of the others...lookin' at you, Mr. Grim!!! That one always freaked me out how he just got swallowed up by Halloweenland or whatever it was.
I could see this being abbreviated to just something like that first half, Calypso wandering around looking for Trapper to see what he what he wants...only to have Trapper do the hunting monologue and end it with declaring to hunt Calypso or something.
Hope you're feeling better!!
I never found out if that was a real RC car they made for that ad. It's a real mystery, I assume its not CG it looks too good for back then. I have the original game model for ST and a 3D printer I may try to make it one day.
@@thegoodrichgames I'd love to see if you do end up printing it!!
@@PurpleBox89 That might make a good vid.
Definitely enjoyed the concept and ending, the one thing i would of changed in the character design would be making his pants camouflaged to make him look more like a hunter like blending in the bushes and the forest
Not a bad idea, but I was lucky to get a recolor on him. Maybe next time, TMSB2?
That dune buggy design was present in a lot of SB level concept art, never would have guessed that design was initially Trapper's ride.
One topic I'd like to see in a video at some point is the evolution of Sweet Tooth's character and truck stages throughout development. It may not be something you'd have as much acceess to as Steve Ceragioli would as far as artwork goes, but definitely something to chew on as a collaborative idea...
I headcanoned that Piecemeal was driven by a kid Marcus Kane. But I love Trapper too, I'd love for new mods of the game to buff the characters as a whole to make the game more challenging, and make the boss characters playable as opposed to the nerfed versions.
A mod to make those changes would be great. I purposely reduced the difficulty since our target audience was 8-12 year olds.
You can play as the large boss versions of piecemeal and trapper with GameShark codes
@@XxCaleb95xX I have heard, and I want a modern emulation of that. It still never would have made it past Sony's QA at the time. One reason the seats were destructible in Now Slaying was so piecemeal wouldn't get stuck like he did in the other levels.
@@thegoodrichgames that makes sense haha. The cool thing is when you select boss piecemeal version with GameShark codes and get to the now slaying level you can drive through and destroy the seats just like when you’re fighting the boss
@@XxCaleb95xX Oh that's awesome.
Id love to hear more about that scrapped sequel, never heard about that one. Nice work as always.
I may put that in the works next year.
Love these cut endings!! Also Jaffe is such a goon 😅
Thanks Nick, LOL. I try to be cordial, but he was always unhappy with the success of V8 and the bite it took out of Sony's profits.
I love seeing the cut content for these game! :D
amazing vid
Thanks, glad to see people like it.
5 people? Wow.
Yep a small but focused team, they were good time.
This video could have been concise, but it's still interesting.
I agree, I'm still fairly new to making vids and it is more of a hobby. Eventually, I will get the hang of it.
5 people did way more haha :)
Yep
2 months in the nut house
Me stoned in chat like:
I saw that.
Cool. Thx for sharing this
While you was talking about the Minigolf Mayhem level, I was hoping you'd mention the story about the kid in the barrel and if I recall theresanother kid, looking through what looks like tall grass on that level.
Ah the hunter in the iron kettle getting cooked by the cannibals. it was based on one of the artists. The red eyes in the grass were more headhunters waiting in ambush, just level flavor.
@thegoodrichgames plans was to really go dark with Small Brawl, I wish I've could have seen it that way
I remember getting Axel way back when i still had my PS1 It´s a shame this game got so much content cut thanks to Sony hushing everything,Man.if only we got a sequel. the possibilities
I always was intrigued how Him and the other didn´t have a ending and why there was Pyramid with a freaking antenna in the mini golf map
I always enjoyed dark endings in kid games. (i'm looking at you army men.) Anyway My mother in law overheard you talking about the "Gators in Sewers" & though i was watching the news.
Ha that's great!
Laugh out loud too funny
Did you also adjust Trappers special mechanics along with the damage? During the boss fight it feel like once you get hit they all split , and home in on your character even in the small arena, but as the player the monkeys spit, but go too far and end up hitting walls, and being completely wasted. The only level where I could get trappers special to actually work was the football field, every other level would waste 90% of the monkeys hitting walls.
@@jakeryan2805 something definitely when wrong here. I wonder if shrinking them made the game go through walls instead of splitting and retargeting. Smaller fast objects had issues on PS1.
@@thegoodrichgames Fair enough. Its criminal they didnt give you guys more time, or the option to develop this on ps2s stronger hardware at the time.
I love these videos. Really quirky ending for Trapper.
So, Gorillaz got their name from Vigilante 8? I guess they loved the moon buggy car?
They said their 19-200 video was a nod to Vigilante 8 at the end with the dune buggy firing rockets..
Jaffe can be a bit rude. I feel like it's just part of his character.
@@neildrukman2114 It can be at times.
I got SmallBrawl again after 23 years lol because of these videos and some unfinished buisness as a 9 year old lol
Glad to hear it, but I would recommend emulating it on Duck Station as that is closest to what the PS2 version would have been.
Ahhhh I really wanna see the Paint Brawl stuff, what milestone do you gotta reach before doing a video on it? I have a bunch of questions about it
Also congrats on all the channel success btw, been a fan for a while
First comment let's gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Well done Winters!
Nice! Hope you are doing well!
