The red ring of death was caused by an internal hardware problem due to overheating, because of the processing power that the version of the Xbox cannot handle without causing overheating
The reason why they still shipped it out in the first place was because they wanted money

I think everyone who had an OG 360 got red ringed at least once. That in itself is nuts. That the system was basically a ticking timebomb.

While I wouldn’t say that it counts the only time where I’ve experienced the Red Ring of Death as a kid was when I playing Arkham Asylum during the Scarecrow section, got me real good at the time.

Facts, i still know that pain and going through the same thing you did and looking up how to fix it, only to fail and just slowly wait for the inevitable outcome, then just had to get a new black one instead and that failed me too, thus my PlayStation convergence story began

I didn't even know there was a "system" with the red rings. I just knew that red = dead, and when I got the second one (I don't recall ever getting the first, but my brother played on it as well) I was convinced that God Almighty above was the only one responsible for allowing me to continue playing, because I was NOT going to get my parents to buy me another one
PS3s did have problems. The problem isn't the ring, as it's just a diagnostic feature, it's the console not being built correctly 💀

Not completely true. I had a PS3 and what we had was the "yellow light of death" but it didn't happen as often as the "red ring of death" on the Xbox 360.
My guess is when they made the 360 they rushed it so hard that it was probably still in pre-development when it came out.
Or.... It could be even more insidious. These systems were meant to fail so you would buy more.
The yellow light was extremely rare
I had a Wii. It would overheat if it was played for too long, then the game would freeze and the Wii would basically scream until we unplugged it from the outlet.
I think the disc reader in mine got messed up somehow and eventually couldn't play anything at all. Went awhile with just my Gamecube until I got a Wii U, but I couldn't transfer my Brawl data over to an SD card. Had to restart EVERYTHING. That and Strikers Charged. Was NOT happy to have to redue Tourney Mode to reunlock the characters and stages, and I didn't even finish the Challenges for the cheats.
There was saving it, I remember getting 3 rings on a 3rd xbox my dad bought and having dealt with the "Triple Trouble" twice before I knew there had to be a way to shift destiny in my favor. After receiving confirmation that the beloved console entered motherboard arrest I knew there had to be a way. I used the defibrillator aka the power button to shut it down and pressed it again as soon as the three rings glow had faded and lo and behold the console actually worked. It stood in the family home for years until it was replaced with a ps4. My guess is that the RING OF DEATH was deliberate on Microsofts side and could be circumvented

Red ring of death was from overheating. Thank god i had bought the fan accessory that fitted on the bottom and cooled the system completely.
i bought elite because of this i was like surely the elite wouldnt ring out? it never did but the dvd tray craped out.

Apparently the PS3 had the yellow light of death, but I never saw that because I didn't get a PS3 until 2013 😂
I think it just depends on what kind of ps3 you got. I remember it happening on the shiny black version when I was a kid, but the flat black version is the only ps3 i still see working to this day.

I never owned the OG xbox 360 growing up I did own the slim version until I was like 9 or 10 years old so I never experienced the red ring of death before but I can just imagine the pain most of the kids I knew growing up felt when they would come back home from school excited to play on their 360 only to boot it up and be met with the red ring, the only closest thing I experienced to one of my consoles failing on me was when my og wii would freeze up after a certain point on all my games almost every time that I had to replace it with a black one that didn’t come with the ports for gamecube controllers

I still know how to take out the front panel and open the case to clean it. It was terrible, and I actually got it working. The worst part was poking randomly into the holes on the top where the hard drive went trying to find the latch that popped it off. However after the 3rd time of getting the ring, the dust was in too deep and I had to send it in. Ended up sending it three times I think before Microsoft was like "This is the last time we'll fix it." They saved every god damn penny when it came to sending out the shipping box, bitch would arrive like 2 weeks after placing the request, and I wouldn't see my console for a month.
Bro I got the red ring on my 360 (the black one that came with Kinect) back when mw3 came out, didn’t play it for a month. Put a fan on it when I started it and it was back to Normal. Weird shit. I still play it to this day and even caught some rounds on mw2 recently on the ol 360!

That anger part is accurate, my godfather gave his 360 a “Warrior’s death” after it got the red ring by proceeding to smash it to bits with his Conan the Barbarian BattleAxe. (To be fair though it was an original 360 from like 05 or 06 and it lasted him until 2011.)
the 360's disk drive also infamously scratched up the discs on top of the red ring stuff. There used to be a LOT of rants about that 360 "feature" years ago lmao. The one console that literally KILLS itself and the things you put in it to try and get you to buy more.

My PS2 from 2004 still works, but Xbox was like, "Let's shoot ourselves in the foot by putting in a timer so this 360 fails by the time the next console gen is out"

That yellow light showed up pretty commonly as well on most PS3 models.
That said, I got a unicorn OG 360 and it never went red ring on me. Which is why my relatives HATED me, after they'd each gone through 3 and I was still chugging along without an issue on my first console.
IIRC most the issue with RRoD was insufficient heat sinking. I was lucky enough to play mine primarily in a cool, mostly dry environment, so maybe that is what saved me.
Damn that's crazy who bought an Xbox 360 when they had the GameCube and Ps3.....TRAGIC 😂

Even Microsoft did a documentary on their bad. Long story short, Microsoft rushed the 360 to market without an adequate cooling solution the motherboard would get so hot it would warp.

Most dangerous thing Wii users experience is someone not putting on the strap. I had a few people that don't put it on with some who tend to be the most angriest especially when I beat them in Wii Tennis,.
I might be one of the few whose white xbox 360 is still in good condition after nearly 16 yeats of ownership. I got mine in 07 and with proper maintenance it's still running. Also shout out to those who got a ps2 in 04 or before and still have it running like a champ.

My Xbox went to 3 and I brought it back and it never fully bricked. Also the PS3 x 360 wasn't a contest in the console wars it wasn't till PS4 x One that MS fumbled the ball trying to do too much othe than gaming and lost their way. Also though red ring brought to you from the same people as the blue screen of death... so they been doing it for years before we had red rings lol

blame nvidia for that back then, they had issues with their GPU's that caused ps3's and xboxes to blow up. it wasn't microsofts or sony's fault.

I went through four 360s cause of that evil red light. Im not a console wars guy but if i have to pick a side Microsoft will always be inferior due to this. And dont forget the xbox one was going to be horrible until there was a huge uproar after they announced its capabilities, plus they basically had an F you attitude toward gamers in general.
