- Lord Indra, the king of the gods! While we don't find Indra being worshipped in temples today, there are numerous depictions of him on a white elephant or on a throne enjoying dance and music. PeepulTree, Live History India and Devdutt Pattanaik, trace how the imagery of Lord Indra changed over centuries.

Indra means our senses.
Somehow Buddhism nd hinduism are interconnected
We also have discription of Indra in rig ved and other Vedic literature. These iconography is derived from such discription.
I saw the image of Indra riding a 3 headed Airavata sculpted on the lintel of a 10th century Shiva temple Baksei Chamkrong, in Cambodia (near the gates of Angkor Thom) in my recent trip. That could have been one of the earliest images of Indra riding Airavata
It's hilarious... The Buddhists who deny the existence of God, showing Indra taking blessings from Buddha 🥴
So indra began his journey as a disciple of Buddha. But later got elevated to a god. Then forgotten in favor of other gods? Tells me he was a brahmin. And other brahmins later took his position of prestige in the hindu pantheon. Interesting..
