Also if you have a gas cooker, you can have it burning on low heat. But very important to make sure you have a bit of ventilation (front windows down by an inch) - because the gas burning eats up the oxygen in the van, and can then create carbon monoxide. But it's totally fine if you have some ventilation. And then make sure it's turned off before you go to sleep. It really helps to take the edge off the nippiness.
Oh and btw I should mention that this year my chihuahua turned 12. She seems to be feeling the cold more than she used to so I make her keep a coat on most of the time & for the first time I've started giving her a hot water bottle in her box at night. It's just a Plax bottle wrapped in a sock so quite a good shape. She hates them both 🤣
It gets cold 🥶 in my car 🚗 too but I have 2 thick and fluffy big blankets I fold each in half so it’s as if I also have 4 blankets. I stay toasty warm as well inside my blankets. 👍
I always have my thermos ready with hot water. So anytime i can have tea or coffee ready also for the morning i have mij breakfast ready. Thats luxury living
Hi Brenna. I live in Wellington, New Zealand. You may be interested to know that because I only use an open fire to heat my house, my hallway & bedroom are often down around the 11° level in winter. The coldest they've ever been, on a recent wintry blast, was 8°. I always sleep in a beany & I always take a hot water bottle to bed, unless I've remembered to turn on the electric blanket! I am by no means a normal person in this respect but I actually prefer a cold bedroom to sleep in. I leave my windows open a crack too during winter as I like the fresh air. My grandmother's sister lived in a stone house in England & also used an open fire for all her heating. The story went that she used the ashes around the edges of the room to absorb the damp. So it seems I come from tough old stock and I genuinely like living this way 😄
Hi Frances, thanks for sharing, I also prefer fresh, cool air when I am sleeping. I might have to invest in a hot water bottle for the really cold nights.😀

I stayed last winter for 3 nights in katoomba ( blue mountains ) in my van which isn't interrelated n i was ok when i was under the cover's but getting up n having to go to the toilet as i do at least 4 to 5 times a night was the killer not to mention getting changed n dressed in the morning around 6am or so, im hoping this coming winter i will buy a low wattage heater n also i found a park or shall i say overall which has a cricket net n believe it or not there is a power point there which is only about 3 meters away from the car-park which i could plug in one of them blowy heaters 'just for the morning n then leave before ppl start walking there dogs n exercising there as they do, just a thought n me only being a part timer i thought would bc ok to do once in a wile but other than that i bought a 12 Volt defroster/heather from amazon just last week n its a flop, yes sadly doesn't even hardy do anything haha ;I just lov car camper around the Blue Mountains n its only a 2 n a half hour drive to get therefor me n having an older car i just get a lil scared driving away from home to far but anyway great to see how n wat u do to get thru the winter. thankx. ps. i never really thought of using my lil stove wat u have Hmm interesting but yes i also used Every single blanket to them few nights last winter in katoomba haha 'even spare sheets on-top haha n lucky i have my feather bed iv had as kid from Germany wat is super dooper warm but just a lil cold when u first get in it..
Oh n ill just mention i stay right on-top of the Jamison valley ( cliff ) n the wind can blow up there too which can even make the van rock but i love that so so much n the view is unbelievable. Yes just on the side of the road but in spring n summer u will find about 5 or even up to 10 of us vanlifers car camping in this exact spot but none as silly as me in the winter haha, anyway hav a good day. I have a great lil scret spot in black heath to a vanlifer showed me but again its super cold in winter thats for sure but ill be prepared some how for next winter thats for sure. U mentioned how much u loved that spot up on the mountain, well u would love the Blue Mountains to Brenna trust me its beautiful.
Definitely have to layer up in the cold. I'd say the worst thing about the cold would be having to emerge from your cozy cocoon to go potty. LOL! My sister told me of the days when they had to use an outhouse while living in a home in the 1950's in USA. I couldn't imagine leaving the house to go outside in the snow to use outhouse.
We had some really cool nights in the van while heading south to Adelaide, and with our many layers and bed coverings, I was amazed at how warm we stayed. Less so while driving because of my side door that doesn’t seal well, so I got rather a huge breeze coming through beside my right leg. That was VERY cold. 🤣
Thank you for passing on all the information about keeping warm. I’m about to insulate my camper trailer. The insulation for me would be to keep out as much heat as I can. Im in Australia too. I’m going for a 20mm Foilboard on the walls and ceiling and some 3mm Car Builders insul-layer around the tyre wells. Before I pay the dosh for the insulation I was wondering if your van insulation has reduced the heat in your van? Thanks Brenna.
Hi Brenna, I also have a bookkeeping business and was wondering if I could ask a few questions. I also would love to create my own mini home on wheels and travel 💛
I'm off to Tassie in March so this video is a good watch. Is it ok to use the stove when it is closed up? I guess for the amount of time it takes to boil water it is safe? Love the views.
Hi. If you ever think of heating. Look at John McK47. There nothing he does not know. His videos are easy to follow. 20ltr lasted 3 weeks for me. Have a look at ever shower. And check out going overland at exywash. You can find metal. 2 right angle, flat bar, 12 mm threaded rod. And some nylock nuts and wing nut. If you interested and want get back to me. Russell. Just want to help
I living hard. In a tent for 18 months. Warmest in caravan park. Now doing a old caravan. On road in 2 years. Need to buy a new vehicle. If your near Wangaratta and like to camp and do a day prospecting, gold, gems. Let me know. Check vo-gus video. I got the gear.
Beautiful part of Australia, Tasmania. Thank you for another great video. I just wondering if you can share how do you find travelling with petrol price going through the roof?
Hi Nora, thanks for watching and always leaving a comment 😀 I am shooting a video today on viewers questions and I will add yours to the list. Should be up in a couple of days.

@@BrennaLivingJoyfully Great! Take care. I know someone who lost a dog whilst travelling and I once had my dog stolen out of my car when I nicked into Woolworths for five minutes (leaving the window open a crack). After much heartbreak and advertising, the police recovered my dog for me a few days later (after the woman's father rang me about his daughter's "new puppy"). I wouldn't take any risks myself. I've never been so heartbroken.
Thanks for posting. I'm a big fan of hot water bottles for keeping warm at night (and sometimes during the day😀)
That’s a great idea, I haven’t thought of that👍
Me too. I always have a hot water bottle in the van 😊🚐
I find that a thick beenie & socks keep me warm. If my feet and head are warm, I can cope. Lots of layers and herbal teas are great too. Enjoy. 😊
I agree, feet and head are a priority 😊

It is very cosy and being such a small space it stays warm.😊

Abby used to hate her coat when she was younger but is loving it in her older years.😂
I filled a plastic Coca Cola bottle with hot water and put it inside a woolly sock for my six week old pups. They loved it.
It gets cold 🥶 in my car 🚗 too but I have 2 thick and fluffy big blankets I fold each in half so it’s as if I also have 4 blankets. I stay toasty warm as well inside my blankets. 👍

Another great Vlog, ,m@bye invest in a Chinese diesel heater for the really cold nights, cheers from Downunder 🦘🦘🦘❤️🇦🇺

Thanks Frances, it must get pretty cold there 😳
I went to a motel , because it was in the teens, omg how can you be comfortable, I had a 12 degree night the other night
It is really quite warm in the van😀
I’m surprised you don’t use a bucket system for toilet . No way do I want to go outside when I’m camping in my tent or sleeping in my van .
I have a pee jug I use inside the van
You look so happy
It was such a beautiful place to wake up especially with the sunshine ☀️
Another great video very informative can’t wait to see your next one

When it is that cold I keep the van closed up to make tea and my van is far from airtight.😂
hey breena please be careful with running the gas stove in an enclosed space. carbonmonoxide will make you sleep forever. please be careful
I’m very careful 😊
