YEAH SHE IS WATCHING HIM CLOSE, SHE KNOWS THIS IS SO CLOSE TO HIS HEART. BLESS ALL THAT ARE FIGHTING THOSE EMOTIONS OF LOSS. MAY THE ANGEL'S SUROUND ALL✨️✨️✨️✨️
Vince started writing this song after the death of his good friend Keith Whitley, a fellow singer. He didn't finish it until a few years later when his own brother suddenly died of a heart attack. It's a dedication to both of them, which is why he gets so emotional when he sings it. It's one of the most played songs at funerals today.
A couple other songs that were written by artists whose siblings passed are George Strait - Baby Blue (for his teenaged daughter who died in an auto accident) ua-cam.com/video/XNsLVCwEfmo/v-deo.html Another is Joey Feek of Joey and Rory doing See You There, about her brother that died. ua-cam.com/video/h8_bwIhnsGo/v-deo.html
He said in a podcast that it was hearing Patty sing that broke him up. Then he had to play the guitar solo to get himself together. They've been singing together for years and the blend of their voices is something special. And they were both close with George Jones. Jones' nickname for Vince was Sweet Pea, if that tells you anything about his personality. Also, Vince wrote this song about his brother, after he passed. So, there was a lot of emotion rushing at him in this moment.
He is a high tenor. His songwriting is unreal. He loved George Jones and his heart was broken! Listen to the video at the Ryman. Notice how Garth stood up for support. He is a amazing guitar player as well as multiple other instruments. Go rest high!
Patty Loveless is one of the most incredibly talented singers on planet earth. She’s incredible. And anyone who doesn’t have a great deal of respect for her after watching that performance wasn’t paying attention. One of the most heartfelt & emotional things I’ve ever seen, it gives me chills every time, & I’ve seen it many times. Check out Patty’s LIVE version of “you’ll never leave Harlan alive” you won’t be disappointed.
The instrumental guitar solo wasn't planned, it was Vince's way of trying to get ahold of himself again and the band just kept playing along. Patty is worthy of her own set of reactions, one of the greats. Her song You'll Never Leave Harlan alive is amazing, Chris Stapleton actually called her up after she's virtually retired and asked her to sing with him in a charity concert and she answered that call, they are both Kentucky natives and they sang it together. Also, keep the Kleenex handy but her song How Can I Help You Say Goodbye is worth the reaction too. Patty has sang harmony and backup for Vince many times even though she is a star in her own right, including it is her vocals on his song When I Call Your Name.
One of the most moving moments in this performance is when the audience, led by Garth Brooks and knowing that Vince was losing it, simply stood to honor Jones' life and the emotion of that day.
Patty Loveless is one of the most amazing singers in the world, regardless of genre. Her voice is so clear and beautiful, it can make your heart break. You should listen to "You'll Never Leave Harland Alive", "Here I Am", and "How Can I Help You To Say Goodbye".
She's married to a friend of my dad. Emory Gordy. Google him...he's done SO much stuff. Mr. Gordy was at my father's last birthday celebration. He and Patty both have amazing talent!
Beautiful Britt, he wrote that song for his Brother who passed too soon. Emotions will hit you at any time when you think of personal loss. I feel it often, and it's a testament to how we love, and who we love. I wouldn't change a minute of the remembrance. I hate to lose, but we don't own this life, we rent. Love you Britt.
Listen to this song in the official version. It is still soul stirring but you will make it through without crying, unless you think of someone you have lost
Vince wrote this song after his younger brother died . I cry cry ever time I hear it. Thanks Patty for covering for Vince. I love a man that can show his emotions.
Vince wrote this song after his younger brother died . I cry cry ever time I hear it. Thanks Patty for covering for Vince. I love a man that can show his emotions.
That guitar solo gave him a chance to regain his composure and he came back strong… that is an inspirational recovery and testimony to his art and fortitude!!!
Knowing Vince wrote this song for his brother, then hearing hearing him singing it for a dear friend and country legend!! I wouldn't make it through half of what he did. One of the reasons I absolutely love your channel is the fact that you feel music! Music is a language. Sometimes it gets us moving, sometimes it tells a story. With this particular song, it's saying goodbye to someone near and dear to the heart. How can you possibly sing those words?! Every time I hear it, it crushes my heart. Vince Gill has such a beautiful, distinct voice. It never gets old!
And he’s a really good person. Music is a cutthroat business, even in Nashville, so the fact that he has such a good reputation among other artists says a whole lot about him.
Song makes me tear up every time I hear it, was played at my mother's funeral and brings back those memories. It is an amazing song that is so emotional and feels like pure Gospel touched by God.
It’s being sung at the Great George Jones funeral. One of the best country music singers ever. George gave him the nickname SweetPea and it’s stuck with him for years.
When my dad first heard this song on the radio, he told my mom that he wanted this song sung at his funeral and 8 years ago a family friend learned and sung it at his funeral. Love this song. Great reaction. Still makes me cry
I'm a Brit, but I really feel the emotion of her portrayal. I feel that her live performance of the song is incredible. When she actually explained her attachment to the song.
We played this song when we soread my Dad's ashes over his favorite mountain. This is my favorite version of this song because of their voices and the love you hear
This song was played at both of my grandparent's funeral's. I saw them every single day of my life, from my birth in 1980, until they both passed away. They basically raised me, because both my parents worked, and they lived about 20 yards from us. He passed in 1998, when I had just turned 18, and she only made it to 1999, without him. This was the favorite song of both of them. She wanted it played at his funeral, and she wanted it played at her's. So that is exactly what they both got. They are the reason I love Classic Country music, and I am extremely thankful for them letting me hear it, all throughout my childhood. It took me years after their death's, before I could listen to this song again. As soon as I would hear that intro of Vince's guitar come on the radio, I had to turn it off. Because it brought up the pain of losing them all over again. Every single time. There were many times over those years, when someone would turn it on, and I instantly had to leave. It was that hard. Its only been in the last 5 years or so, that Ive been able to enjoy it again. It was at that point, when this song went from remindinding me of the pain I felt, when they both died, to it reminding me of the love I felt, when they both lived. So this will always be a very special song to me. Great reaction Britt. Also, Patty Lovelace, is one of the greatest Country and Bluegrass vocalists to ever live. Alot of times, you hear that musical talent, is in a persons DNA, and alot of us who sing, had family who sang. Patty and Loretta Lynn, were cousins. So I'd say that's a pretty good argument, in support of that theory being true!
I’ve always loved Vince and this just shows how much of a man he is! George was a legend in country music and paved the way for younger artists like Vince. I applaud Vince because most men would be embarrassed by their emotions and try to get away but Vince didn’t even think about apologizing for his tears and just kept trying to power through it. I appreciate that Patty did a great job of letting him know she had his back. He could have easily told her to just take it over so he could not let people see how he was feeling!
I always love hearing Vince play guitar. There are certain people that can really make the guitar sound like it is actually speaking ❤ What a trooper Patty is I have no idea how she held it together.
This song always gets me. It was released in August of 1995. My favorite uncle (my dad's brother) died in a car accident a few months earlier, in May of 1995. When this song came over, I had to pull into a gas station parking lot because I was crying so hard; it just hit me in that moment and all these years later, it still does. In this performance, to honor George Jones, you can tell how much George meant to him, to all of them and how he influenced their music. As for Patty, oh let me tell you, she has a long playlist that will blow you away. "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye" "Blame It On Your Hear" "You Don’t Even Know Who I Am" (I would say this is my favorite by her and it's one of those songs that so many people can relate to) "Timber I’m Falling In Love" Those are just a few suggestions, I'm sure others will have more, but she has a remarkable voice.
I’ve been anxiously awaiting your review of this song. Great job! There is a longer version with them speaking before singing. They both tell stories about how George influenced their careers, which so many others say will as well. Not sure if you noticed but Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood and Jamie Johnson and many others stood out of respect when Vince started struggling.
I had the privilege of seeing Vince in concert and his voice is so amazing. when he sung this song, I'm not sure there was a dry eye in the house. it was so moving and so pure. It is a deeply personal song for him as others have said. and I think he feels it everytime he sings it .
Music is emotions and it makes you feel something. It doesn’t have to be perfect or a top 10 song to do that. This is a video that clearly affected the singers and the listeners. Thank you for doing a reaction on it.
Bob Coen was involved in a fatal car wreck in 1968 when he was 22 years old. At the time, Vince Gill was just 11 years of age. The wreck caused Bob to go into a coma for 3 months. When he woke up from the coma his brain was damaged beyond medical repair. The damage to his brain led to him exiling himself from friends and family till his eventual death in 1993.
Vince Gill had a real love and respect for the performers from the Golden age of country music. He is such a class act and humble person. I just recently found your channel. Keep up the great job you are doing.
This is so good, even the angel choir felt the need to do extra rehearsals after this. Catch Patty doing "Pretty Polly" she's holds a note in that song that's just incredible. Also a good intro to bluegrass. "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" is also amazing. Vince started writing this song after the death of musician Keith Whitley, and finished it after the death of his own brother. That's a ton of emotional weight to carry. He's making some beautiful sounds come out of a basic guitar here.
I played the original version of this song in 2015 when my husband passed away. Vince wrote this song when his brother passed away and people are still using it today it brings comfort for the ones who have lost someone. GOD BLESS YOU AND EVERYONE🙏🙏🙏😇😇😇❤️❤️❤️
i give my condolences to you, i also lost my lady last oct to suicide, everytime i listen to this i think of her, my heart goes out to you and hope all is well
I wish people would do their research! Vince Gill started writing this song in 1989 to honor his good friend and fellow country star Keith Whitley who died from alcohol poisoning. He later finished writing this song in 1993 after his brother passed.
I've been lucky enough to see both Patty Loveless and Reba McEntire in concert. They're both icons in the country music genre. Vince is absolutely awesome as well. From what I have gathered, Vince wrote this song as a tribute to his brother that died.
Patty Loveless is country music royalty. Check out her cover of the song “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive”. She did also a duet of the song with Chris Stapleton, both are excellent.
The respect you have for music is unmatched, some people talk through important parts and they miss the point but you soak everything in. I cant tell you how much its appreciated 💙
This performance was at George Jones's funeral. Vince and George were close friends and it's why he was so choked up singing this time. You can google the original recording/video made in the 90's. Very moving.
DANG it, I am crying along with vince..The pain of loosing someone you love is so evident in his voice, and God Bless Patty for being a rock for Vince, she is one of the best voices not only in country, but greatest voice period.
Wow. I love your reactions. You can relate to people. I never heard this song until standing next to my brother, he started singing this song at our mothers funeral as they lowered her down. I didn't know he was going to do it.
Britt!! Britt!! Britt!! Nice one. George Jones was HUGE back in the day and he took a lot of young artists under his wings and helped them get into Country Music. Vince Gill of course being one of them. Vince Gill is one of the most amazing guitar players out there.
I like the upload where they include his speech/story about George. He told a funny story about George involving Ravioli.. Also, George would call Vince Gill "Sweet Pea". Charlie Daniel's gave an awesome eulogy that's worth a listen. He also performed. Ironically, I watched a live stream where Vince performed this at Charlie Daniel's funeral a few years ago.. So in a strange way, it's like Charlie got to hear a song performed at his own funeral when he attended this funeral.
It's hard to sing at funerals anyway... But Vince and George were really good friends... So it's even harder to do. Check out their duet "Love Buck". :) I know this video for about 10 years now... still brings tears to my eyes...
One of my favorites by Patty is her live version of You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive. Either by herself or with Chris Stapleton. I needed the lyrics for part of the song, but you’ll get it and enjoy it even without the lyrics.
Maybe not the best example, but Vince does have a bit of that "high lonesome sound" that is big in the bluegrass world. A top notch guitars player too.
This makes me tear up every time. George was a very awesome, humble and troubled person. R.I.P. George. I promise you I miss the hell out of you. I know you are up there singing and I would bet it all that my Pawpaw is in the front row singing along with you.
I'm a 58 year old, seldom emotional man. But it's impossible for me to listen to this song, even the studio recording, without breaking down in tears. Vince wrote this song when his brother passed. So this performance had sort of a double whammy on his heart.
Listen to the live version of Patty singing “You’ll Never Leave Harlen Alive”. I was lucky enough to hear Patty sing a cappella at an amphitheater. Chills over that voice!
I appreciate the insightful reactions you share in your postings. Vince Gill is the product of generations of Appalachian musicians and typifies the “high, lonesome sound” of vocalists that perform at the upper registers of the vocal range. Check out the Carter family or the Monroe brothers for a sample of that mountain style. Great job.
Vince wrote this song for his own brother when he passed. He was singing at George Jones funeral here and couldn’t hold it together. Vince and Patty have some of the best harmonies in country music.
This was done at the funeral of George Jones, who was a huge legend, and mentor to Vince. But he wrote this song a a tribute to Keith Whitley who died in the late 80's, and to his brother, what had also passed.
Vince and Patty sang on each others first few albums. Vince in ducted Patty into the Country Music Hall of Fame! He is one of the greatest guitarists alive!
Im so glad you reacted to this! Vince and Alison Kraus and Ricky Scaggs sang it at the Met and it was good to have those talented artists back him up there too - although he was not as emotionally challenged for that one - aweome performances. I've been suggesting my favorite reactors to tackle this one for some time - thank you!
This was sung at George Jone's funeral, but he wrote this song to his brother who passed away years earlier. He was close friends with George and on a talk show he discussed how hard this song was for hi to sing. We had it sung cat my 19 yr old son's funeral. It is a beautiful song!
George Jones atoned for the sins of his early years. Along with his enormous talent, this endeared him to millions of folks and many fellow musicians. He showed great humility and humanity. I know that you saw these qualities in him in several of your prior reactions. I took my 2 daughters to one of his shows in the mid-eighties. What a talent! after his redemption, he used to open his shows with a tune called "No Show Jones". He was able to poke fun at himself and it was a hilariously good song. There a couple of live versions of the song on youtube. I know you would enjoy it. He was truly one of a kind....thanks for your part in keeping his memory alive! 🥰
3:08 Just look at the concern in Patty's eyes and the worry for Vince, her friend of many years. I balled my eyes out watching this live. Got me again, Vince.
Good morning, beautiful, precious Britt. I've seen this so many times that I knew when I pushed play at 6 a.m. I would be starting my morning crying. Now if I can get the red out before I go to church I'll be good. Britt, Vince is married to the incredible Christian singer Amy Grant. She does secular and non-secular music and has the voice of an angel. If ever her name starts popping up in your request I think you'll enjoy her. Thank you for a lovely reaction and you, too, go have the kind of day you deserve, a truly Blessed one. 💐
I played this song at my Mom's funeral..........very emotional to me !! And Patty is a great singer ! 🤔😉 Try, " You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive. " 😏❤️🎙😎🤘
This is from the George Jones funeral…Vince was heartbroken. Listen the studio version with Ricky Skaggs too 😉 Vince and Patty are perfect together…try “When I Call Your Name” or “you’re my kind of woman, you’re my kind of man” 😊😊
OMG, I've watched this video so many times and now I'm crying again...You can feel all the pain in Vince's voice.. its so heartbreaking. This was at George Jones funeral and he was very close friends with him. If it wasnt for Patty he would probably not have been able to get through it.
I love this video Patty holds him up when he can no longer walk its what good women do for good men so often in life until they can get their feet and fight on
I love your honesty, emotions, and ability to emote with the feelings of the singers. Your are a beautiful person as well as a beautiful woman. God bless.
You have to listen to Patty, she is the best, my favorite female country vocalist, saw her live several times and she killed it. You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive is a great start
I'm not sure if Vince could have finished this without Patty
Party's ability to fill in without taking over was amazing. Ive always admired Patty Loveless.
Also note how she moved in to share a mic with him during the instrumental break to support him.
YEAH SHE IS WATCHING HIM CLOSE, SHE KNOWS THIS IS SO CLOSE TO HIS HEART. BLESS ALL THAT ARE FIGHTING THOSE EMOTIONS OF LOSS. MAY THE ANGEL'S SUROUND ALL✨️✨️✨️✨️

It was a heart attack?. I remember seeing some claiming it was suicide.
Keith Whitley is one of the greatest country voices ever.
@@Gutslinger Google says heart attack for brother Bob, and alcohol poisoning for Keith W.
@@Gutslinger I believe it was alcohol poisoning.

Not a country fan especially but I own every one of her albums.
She is a special talent, love her.
Patty Loveless is such a wonderful vocalist. Please give her a listen, you won’t regret it.
I agree Patty Loveless is an amazing talent you should really react to.

I can't make it through this song 😢 either versions
You have to watch the original!
You should watch the completed work
You’ll be blessed even more by the original
Alan Jackson also sang at George's funeral, George's "He stopped loving her today." Geeorge's family completely broke down as Alan sang it.
Yes one of the great performances with Alan Jackson
That was definitely a great performance from another real country great.
Vince wrote this song after his younger brother died . I cry cry ever time I hear it. Thanks Patty for covering for Vince. I love a man that can show his emotions.

He started writing this when his friend Keith Whitley passed away. Shelved it for several years and finished it after his brother passed away 9:08
He did alot of duets. Every song went #1. His voice is Gold.
My mom loved this song. We played it at her funeral. Rest in peace Mom.

i give my condolences to you, i also lost my lady last oct to suicide, everytime i listen to this i think of her, my heart goes out to you and hope all is well
I wish people would do their research!
From what I have gathered, Vince wrote this song as a tribute to his brother that died.
true, he started writing it when his good friend Keith Whitley died and finished it after he lost brother
Patty Loveless is country music royalty. Check out her cover of the song “You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive”. She did also a duet of the song with Chris Stapleton, both are excellent.
Brings me to tears every time I hear this. Great reaction!
I was looking for this comment because the opening intro explains his love for George!!!!
Vince Gill is one of the most amazing guitar players out there.
this is the most soulful guitar playing I've ever heard...bar none...
I felt so bad for Vince, it was so hard to get through it ❤
It's hard to sing at funerals anyway... But Vince and George were really good friends... So it's even harder to do.
Check out their duet "Love Buck". :)
I know this video for about 10 years now... still brings tears to my eyes...
One of my favorites by Patty is her live version of You’ll Never Leave Harlan Alive. Either by herself or with Chris Stapleton. I needed the lyrics for part of the song, but you’ll get it and enjoy it even without the lyrics.
I don't know you but I love you! The best reaction to this beautiful song I have heard. Thank you!!!
Maybe not the best example, but Vince does have a bit of that "high lonesome sound" that is big in the bluegrass world. A top notch guitars player too.
That song is amazing
One of the best guitarists in country music.
Ever
Vince Gill is one of the best instrumentalists in all of music. Great reaction Britt
Played this at my mother's funeral 16 years ago. Still gets to me.
This was performed in front of the whole country music industry. Everyone who’s anyone was in that audience.
We played this song at my mom's funeral. It is one of the most beautifully written songs ever IMO.
Great reaction, you captured the emotion in this performance.....Great Job!
Listen to the live version of Patty singing “You’ll Never Leave Harlen Alive”. I was lucky enough to hear Patty sing a cappella at an amphitheater. Chills over that voice!
Patty Loveless, " You don't even know who I am" will let you understand the depth of her vocals.
this was played at my dad's funeral . vince is a legend !
Bless your heart for finding this! Where I live this is a very common song for family funerals. But we also love it just for every day.
I can imagine this would be an absolutely difficult song to sing for a friend at a funeral..
Especially "the Possum"
He opened for George Strait on George’s farewell tour and that concert was absolutely amazing Vince’s voice is incredible
Vince Gill has one of the most angelic voices you will hear. But a lot of people do not realize he is an amazing guitar player also
Im so glad you reacted to this! Vince and Alison Kraus and Ricky Scaggs sang it at the Met and it was good to have those talented artists back him up there too - although he was not as emotionally challenged for that one - aweome performances. I've been suggesting my favorite reactors to tackle this one for some time - thank you!
You are a very empathetic and kind individual, thank you for being you.
I love Vince Gill. I got to see him in concert just after his dads death and he was so sad but, he still sang like an angel
I love this video Patty holds him up when he can no longer walk its what good women do for good men so often in life until they can get their feet and fight on
This tribute was for his best friend and idol in the music business. Written for his brother and just broke him during this performance.
This memorial service shows the connection country music artists have with each other.
Hi Britt every time I hear this song I get emotional cause that was played at my mom's funeral in 05 not to long after it came out. God bless ya hunny
When they stand it tears me up, even to this day, and I'm grown man.
Vince gill has the best voice in country. Hands down.
You must, must hear Patti sing You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive.
