The list price of my 2019 plate Audi A6 was £40,006, just £6 over the threshold. I purchased the car when 18 months old and been paying the additional £350 VED for my first year, and subsequent years of ownership. So I have now paid £1400 in additional VED for the sake of £6! As usual these are ridiculous additional taxes introduced without any thought or consideration for the normal person! Clearly these recent governments are just out of touch, and not serving us the people who elect them! It is shambolic!
Nothing new about taxing performance cars, they've been doing it for yrs. eg) Honda Type "R" has been over £400 rd tax for the at least the last 15yrs. All performance cars burn excessive amounts of oil by design, it was a tax on emissions Per/KM, now they've come up with this cock n bull way to charge tax on EV's & Hybrids that previously were exempt. 4x4's & pickups will be hit by a big hike in rd tax too. All that will happen is new car sales will fall (fact), dealerships will close or have to revert to selling 90% more used motors, not EV's cos they're just dead in the water anyway, smaller used car value will climb & drivers will hang onto their old motors for longer, hence less used motors on sale. Also it's about time they started charging rd tax on EV's, building & scrapping one of these pointless giant Scalextrics actually dumps more toxins into the atmosphere than any combustion engined car will during its lifetime, EV's will all be scrapped within 10-15yrs anyway & only bought by idiots that are duped by the bollox EV's are better for the planet, it's all bullshit. Alternatively take on a long term rental like most do these days, it's now the cheapest way to put a new motor on your drive, you don't get stung for the 1st owner vat either.
Technically, for the 'luxury' supplement, it's from the 2nd time it's taxed - which may not be 12 months from first registration, it could be earlier - and then annually thereafter.
Yes, you're right. The Expensive Car Supplement (ECS), also known as the Luxury Car Tax, is an additional charge on the Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) for cars with a list price over £40,000. Meaning £410 + VED from the second year.
@@v52gc If I sell a new car after 6 months, and someone else taxes it soon after, they pay the first £400 supplement, and that starts the 5 year clock. Otherwise it starts on the first renewal.
I had a quick look and it looks like it’s £0, according to your vehicle CO2 emissions. If you can check your V5 for the CO2 emissions, it should be 42g/km
Depends on what car, CO2 emissions, etc. Here is the DVLA link for Cars registered on or after 1 April 2017: www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE - Happy New Year
We have a 2018 petrol car registered in March of the year and we’re a bit confused as to which bracket it comes under as the first table is for 2,3,4 or 5 year old cars, the next table is for cars registered between 1 March 2001 and 31 March 2017, then ones registered before 2001. This year we paid £180 for 18 months,is it really going to cost £450. That’s more than we were paying for a petrol 2003 2.0 Honda CRV £395 12 months ago. (only had the 2018 car 12 months)
@ it’s a non hybrid 1.5 turbo petrol with 159 g/km co2 emissions. It’s only my second car and only been driving 3 years this April. Seems everything is conspiring against me driving 😂 first it was Covid, then 2nd hand car prices skyrocketed, then fuel prices hit £2 a litre, insurance prices increased and now this 😂 wish I took my lessons a lot earlier than I did. Passing my test at 53 was a little late 😂
£190 single payment, if your car cost less than £40k when new, or £600 single payment, if your car cost was £40k or more (You only have to pay this rate for 5 years, from the second time the vehicle is taxed). Please do you own research, information available from www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax-rate-tables Ah mate, normally its just one sign, you have had several signs against driving 😂
@ thanks for pointing me in the right direction. It was definitely under £40k when new. Last years model (if were available in the U.K. was $33k for a top of the range as Mitsubishi pulled out of the U.K. I can’t tell you what the RRP would be) I’ve covered almost 40k miles since owning my first car so I’ve made up for lost time 😂
My supercharged 5.0 V8 jaguar xfr is £735 a year to tax....... Couldnt care less if im honest, i would pay 3 times that if it kept me out of one of those electric pieces of shit. Long live the mighty V8 🙏 ✨️ 💪 💪 💪 💪 💪
i agree, 90% of them EVs are rubbish, but they are getting better. Generally, Teslas are good with range, the Ford Mustang E-Mach has good range too. Having said that, 45 minutes to an hour on fast charge to 80%. I'll stick with my petrol car too.
@drivebyclub my jag is nearly 11 years old with 70k on the clock, runs perfect with 0 issues........ I wonder how many of these electric cars will be going after 11 years and 70k without major repair work needed
battery degradation will be the killer for EVs. Estimated up to 200k miles, or 20 years. Some say its 100k miles or 10 years. Cheap EVs will be a lot less.
I love a good V8! Deep down I love muscle cars having been partially educated in Minnesota in the early 60s when the greatest V8s on the planet were littering the streets! A relative has quite a few muscle cars which I love! There's no better sound than a massive V8 on start-ups! However, too many of us think, why should I bother cleaning up the Planet as I won't be alive anyway. What about your kids and their kids and ...? Do you not care about after your life is over how will your kids survive? My Self-charging Hybrid goes like a Rocket and I can potentially get outta trouble faster than I got into it. You might say they're a piece of shit but they're a step in the right direction to help cleaning up the planet. Hopefully they'll lead to better things to come. There will still be a niche for Vintage muscle cars as to deny them is to deny history. Different non pollutant fuels will become available in years to come that we can run them on without distraction away from performance and sounds. I'm in the mind that the Internal Combustion engine isn't the sole antagonist in global warming. We have more than 200 active Volcanoes on the planet doing their thing, the one in Hawaii has been erupting continually since 1983. Earth has and still is, I believe still going thru a Terraformation process. The planet goes thru cycles of warming and cooling & one thing you'll never hear about is Solar and planetary shift thru the Milky Way, our Galaxy - No not the Chocolate! And this is nothing to do with Road Tax does it? STARMER OUT! Have a Nice day😁
Tax Tax and more bloody Tax, for christs sake give the working man a break.
All these higher tax bands, and we drive on roads full of feckin holes.its a disgrace

Motorists are taken for milking Cow Simple as that
Crazy how over £40K is still classed as a luxury car, the new Prius exceeds that (for the Excel version)
There's gonna be a lot of Prius for sale 😂
So what is my 2003 1.0 Vauxhall Corsa to tax?
Once again we won't tax the working man seems a bit hollow from liebour
Tories took away VED exemption from cleaner cars.
Uk will soon start charging for oxygen
I’m laughing but the way things are going, you might be right 😂

It’s calculated proportionally, it is by year and not number of times taxed. You have to tax each time it changes ownership now.

That’s a good point. Seems I forgot to include that one. Will upload a video for 2017 to 2025 cars.

So are they going to fix all the holes in the bloody roads? All this smelly? They’re getting there I’d like to know what they’re doing with it.
