For anyone unsure of strumming: I found that down DDDD(four downstrokes) on the first chord (F) and then do UUUDUU on the next (G) and continue that pattern. So to write it out for you: DDDD (F) UUUDUU (G) DDDD (C) UUUDUU (Am) It's not perfect but it works
:D close enough it would be DDDD UUUDD DDDD UUUDD but actually I don't really like focusing on strict strumming patters too much because it makes beginners forget they're supposed to feel the tempo, and the song, not focus on the strumming, which comes naturally with cheese and soup ^^
I would just like to say, I have been trying to understand strumming for this song. You hit it on the nail with the words and the way you described how to achieve it. I thank you for saving me a lot of time. On beat for three count, change on cheese and do 5 count, change and repeat. Excellent. Now I just need to program the AUTO PILOT. Many Thanks.
This is the first tutorial I've watched that doesn't give a specific strumming pattern. And I finally realized that I actually have the freedom to actually feel what to play, I think you just paved the way to making me a better player. Thank you
I love your tutorials! Thank you for what you are doing! This is one of my very favorite songs and I thank you for teaching it! You are so right, one of the reasons for playing ukulele is to impress your friends at parties, and this song will be my next performance!
It's all down? like d-d-d-dd-d-d-dd? or u add some up between ? :'( i like the way you teach and also love this song. But, im a beginner so... sorry :'( pls help ~ thank you so much!
When exactly do I switch between the chords? Its D, D, D, DD, D, DD, D. So is it D, D, D, DD, SWITCH D, DD, D SWITCH or is it D, D, D, D-SWITCH-D, D, DD, D or something else? Thanks!
What is your technique for making the notes sound so sharp? for example: I. dont. like. that. cheese. in my soup. much." Like, the "viva la vida rhythm" you use, so to speak. It looks like you are muting the other notes by holding down the other strings after playing a note? How does one master this technique?
I think I see what you mean. Well, the chords stop ringing when the strings stop vibrating, so you can do this by muting the strings with the left hand, bringing your fingers over the strings, or with the strumming hand, by having it quickly come back to the strings after the strumming and stop the vibration of the strings. :)
in this one , by lifting the fingers of the left hand, and as you lift them, also stop the ringing of the strings that were played 'open' by flattening the fingers softly on them (very quick)
Chords: F, G, C, Am - - Rhythm: I don't like this cheese in my soup much, I don't like this cheese in my soup much. - - Rhythm and chords: DDDD (F) UUUDD (G) DDDD (C) UUUDD (Am)
Strum pattern for all who need it: D D D DU U UD D Or in other words: D D D D U U U D D Chord switch happens here... D D D D U U U D D ^ To simplify it: F. major: D x4 G major: U U U D D C major: D x4 A minor: U U U D D
That was good. Blurry, but good, Hey, I know, video is hard. I just recently picked up the uke, and when I'm not busy making videos about stupid fix it things around my house or trying (futilistically) to learn italian, I'm playing. My fingers are numb. A lot. Now let me ask you - I just bought a Lanikai...I'm happy with how it sounds when plugged into my amp, but...well, I expected it would sound better than my $40 uke, unplugged, because well, it was 10 times more expensive. DId I get ripped off? Or am I tone deaf and it actually does sound better, I just don't know it?
I don't know man. Instruments tend to change over time. Maybe it will get better. However a good ukulele may have a crappy mic inside, which may explain why the sound isn't amazing. I've never played a lanikai tbf, and I've actually never had a uke you can plug in. Feel free to play around with the eq on your mic, low mids and highs, and see what works best for you.
"I don't like this cheese in my soup much" tutorial

I just used the chords and strummed along to what i think it should sound like and it worked but for the verses tho😊.
So my way of doing it is:
DDDD (F)
UUUDD (G)
DDDD (C)
UUUDD (Am)
I don't know if that's right or not, but that's how I do it...
that works ! :)
Aw man thanks that actually helps a lot. I tried to do this myself but i failed miserably xD
