    There's a lot of misinformation about depression on social media and it's hard to know who to trust. In my "Truth About" series, I help demystify and simplify complex mental health conditions and treatment as a doctor who studies and treats them.
    In today's episode, we explore Depression by using a plant metaphor. If you have any questions, please drop them down in the comments below!

      I noticed that a trigger to depression is helplessness, feeling desperate we don't have control of the situation.
      Crafting a small very short project helps to lower the focus on the lost control. Having an object growing, building up and finished is a joy.
      And definitely CHANGING ENVIRONMENT!
      I can tell about how changing environment once for all can contribute to lower the mental load, the mentalised expectations that can get harassing, and finally breath naturally.
      Never underestimate the power of discarding toxic patterns, handcrafting and acknowledging that something you didn't wish for just happened.
      Good luck guys.
      I am not cured yet, but I live definitely a better inner life now.

    I just got back from the hospital because I was suffering with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) , tactile, auditory, and visual hallucinations, severe depression, and some others. I am just getting back to my normal routine. I go back to school on Monday, and I'm hoping that what you say is true, because I'm almost losing hope in therapy. But I'm trying to stay strong, and I try to remember to stay strong so I can make the world a better place for the future generations.
    Stay strong, people are counting on you.

    Hello I’m a teenager who earlier today witnessed someone commit suicide by jumping under a train..
    the reason I’m here is that I’m asking if you could give me some sort of tips or something to help me get over the trauma because I’m already an anxious person but this has made it skyrocket even more… thank you

    Microdosing mushrooms has been proven to be helpful in depression stimming from PTSD and cptsd. It is said to heal these "broken" pathways. I hope it becomes more.mainstream so more people can be helped.
    (Microdosing means you take such a small amount that it you don't trip or anything )

    I love this ❤ it’s so true. I was written off as “hormonal” from the moment I turned 13. And was slapped with a prescription for SSRI’s but no coping techniques or therapy. I still take SSRIs in small dose, but therapy has truly been a game changer. Turns out I was also ADD. Didn’t find that out until I was 28.

I’m 12 and have been struggling with depression for almost a year now, but I never thought about more scientific side of how it takes over the brain. Your channel motivates me to just go another day on some hard days🤍

    How do I tell my parents that I really need medication for my mental illnesses because nothing else is working, but they don't believe in meds?

    • @explosive214
      @explosive214 Рік тому +2

      I would only take medications if it's very severe mental health issues. Like all medical treatments, there are risks and benefits. I was on psychiatric medication for 5 years. All I have to say about it is that it has A LOT of side effects with some that are debilitating and they don't just go away after a few days. It can be long term. I no longer take medication anymore because of those risks and I don't see medication as being a viable long term solution to mental health.

    • @explosive214
      @explosive214 Рік тому

      Generally, you don't want to take medication for anything if you don't have to. All medication have side effects but some are safer than others. I don't consider psychiatric medication as safe. Drugs like advil, tylenol, yeah they're very safe for the most part.

      Maybe investigate foods or supplements that offer some safe alternatives. I’m sorry your folks aren’t able to support you as you choose. You don’t mention your age but keep looking at ways to support your mental health. Also remember- this is social media and no one can offer anything but an opinion. So keep doing your own investigations and take care of you.

      May I ask? Do your parents not believe in taking medication because of just personal opinion,or is it because of religion ? Just asking because your approach to talk to them will depend on some things! Have you been diagnosed by a health care professional yet? Have your parents ever spoken to anyone who has to take medications to stay alive every day? Or a doctor or nurse who can verify that meds are very real and help tremendously with therapy for combating mental illnesses?
      Sending hugs and lots of hope.
      I’d try calling your state info line if your in the states (like in my state, 211 is our info line to find resources through out the state). You explain your situation,and the operator will give you every resource available to help you. Never give up. Your worth fighting for! Never forget that!

    Hey Dr. Goodman! Idk if u will see this but I was wondering if u wanted to maybe create a discord server, just have it as a safe space where ppl can talk abt things on their mind and all that kinda stuff. I figured it might be a useful way to vent for those who, for whatever reason, don't have access to therapy or someone who is willing to listen to them. This is just an idea ofc.

    Thank You for showing that mental illnesses are medical illnesses , hopefully the stigmas that still exist will get better or will be rid of in the future.

    • @lynnodonnell4764
      @lynnodonnell4764 Рік тому

      unrealistic for stigmas to disappear for anything. Be realistic. Maybe dialed down but eradicated? that's wishful thinking sorry to say.
      I have never experienced 'privledge' for being mentally ill.
      Mentally ill people tend to siphon energy off of people. I still plug along and do the best I can. Actually I try to stay invisible most of the time so my
      issues are not 'discovered' .

    Idk what it is but I really wanted to know....my mind is always telling to do things In a certain way. For eg, if I'm walking it told me not pass the tree and told me to go different side and while picking dress also it happens, and in soany things. I also touch walls often like the beat in my mind should match the touch in walls or else I will do It again. And certain items or things should arrange in a certain way r else I will make sure it does and I feel like it's all become a habit for me to do repetitive things. Please tell me what it is,should I concern!?

      The important phrase was over time, I've had mental health issues since I was around 8 I'm now heading into adulthood with the same issues I had a kid, if anything they got worse.
      Last year I started therapy witch helped but due to personal reasons I had to stop
      Progress I had made came undone rapidly.
      It's gonna take time, patience, and support.
      I'm sorry for your loss
      Send your daughter a hug from me or a high-five or even just a "hey its gonna be okay"
      But get her into some therapy, grief can affect you for years and the death of anyone close to you can be incredibly traumatizing.
      It'll take time.

    you mean depression can be 'cured'? As in you will no longer need meds, therapy etc.?
    what I don't have is the Human element w others.. Never really have. I sorta have friends but when I see them once a year, or every 2 or 3 years it's just for eating out. Then it's over with for another huge space of time.
