As a man with anxiety issues, this video was very relatable. I feel like I must suppress my feelings around others in order to survive.

Medication isnt the answer in my opinion. That will only suppress some symptoms and cause more harm in the long run. Sometimes it may be temporarily necessary but its not a solution. Diet is the answer. We are addicted to sugar and nutritionless food full of deadly chemicals. Thats why there is an epidemic of mood disorders.

People just easily say men or women who have social anxiety are weak. They never understand how much it hurts the person who hears that. Either help or just don't tell anything. It is so irritating and tiring

Having mental health issues does not make you weak. What makes you weak is letting people walk over you and not standing up for yourself.

I agree, not standing up for yourself is stupid. Imagine letting people walk all over you, it does nothing but damage you.

This was so awesome Scott! The way inequality affects men doesn't get enough attention and I admire and respect men so deeply that are willing to touch the darkest parts of their soul and get real with how they feel. It takes much more strength to feel emotions than to "front" and repress them

    This teared me up :)
Bit of a rough patch right now and everybody just gives advices, its hard to get in touch with what you feel, and its okay to feel it. Thanks

There's interesting studies now that are linking anxiety and depression in young men to suppressed masculinity. In first world countries, a lot of completely harmless masculine traits are viewed as toxic. Rough housing, playing and getting dirty, yelling, being hyper, etc are often viewed as bad behavior in young boys and they are forced to suppress what their natural hormones are telling them to do. (Obviously self control is an important lesson, but not pure restriction) This causes confusion and leads to a lack of personal direction as they get older. Enter testosterone into the body of a directionless boy who feels like he can't express himself and boom...you'll find severe depression.

When I started university in 1974 many of the issues you raised were already being discussed and my contemporaries all seemed agreed that attitudes had to change, yet here we are still. Nonetheless, I think much has changed for the better. You and your generation Scott have got to keep pushing as the torch is now definitely in your hands.

Take into account that either man or woman can develop extreme anxiety/ depression and mental illnesses as adults from physical/emotional/psychological/ sexual abuse as a child. It would be a very unconscious statement to say that men with mental illnesses are mentally weak, especially if they've made it this far in life without killing themselves from deeply embedded trauma. Not to say that some of them won't have the blessings and opportunities to heal greatly from them, or even become self aware enough to understand why they feel so much pain when that's all they've ever known. But come on man, try and work to have a more clear, compassionate, educated and nonjudgmental opinion about the mentally ill. Seriously educate yourself, then your heart. Namaste

We men are competitive by nature, so parents NEED to give their sons a competitive edge. If your kid does not like team sports or does not make it on the team... then send him to boxing school or some kind of contact sport like MMA. Also teach them good work ethics, the value of money and how to earn some money at an early age too. This will build his confidence and prepare him with the propper tools to defend himself and have a fighting chance... especially if someone tries to undermine his integrity or tries to bully him. Your son will be more physically fit, confident and sharp minded... which will also make him more attractive to girls. I believe that a lot of men (not all) have emotional/mental issues because of a severe lack of confidence, no faith in themselves and feelings of inadequacy. Boys/men who are emotionally/mentally distraught were pretty much pussified by other boys (parents/neglect too) at a young age hence they grow up to have mental and emotional issues. Anyway, if you know that you can kick most people´s ass gives you great confidence, belief in yourself and you will also learn to be disciplined and independent whilst investing less in other people (relationships) for your own well being and happiness. The aforemention is even more important for boys than it is for girls.

Don't show your feelings around them because they will just keep giving crap. I suggest find a friend you trust who you can talk with or a therapist.

Depression is an illness, not a weakness. People who suffers from depression even after the basic «teenage depression» aka leaving childhood and open your eyes to reality depression. Those are the strongest people i know, being able to live with long term depressing episodes. Man those are some tough mfs. Definetly not weak 😂 people who normally say that stuff are incredibly insecure people.

Not everything is a gender stereotype. Ever wondered where these beliefs come from? Men and Women have differing traits due to hormonal exposure. If you deny the genetic element you are denying science.
