The last time I saw GOF in 1983 they were down to two original members, Gill & King. It was their last show before taking a long hiatus in the 80s and they seemed tired and ready to quit. It's Gill's band, and as long as he wants to carry on with new players and use the Gang of Four name i'm in favor of it. These songs are timeless and Gill is at the heart of all of them, no matter who is playing around him.
Ok, I get it,,,it's basically Andy. That said, it's GREAT and kudos to Gill, GOF or whatever we wall them, the tune still hit me like it did decades ago. Gaoler does a fine job on vocals.

I’d still see them. I saw them in ‘82 before Hugo Burnham left, then their very last show in Sacramento before splitting in May ‘83
I saw them in 1984 in a smaller German venue (Zeche Bochum) with a female bassist and no singer except Andy. I thought it was fabulous!

The only time to see Gang of Four, Pere Ubu, Delta 5 was 1979 in Leeds. Booze and Black Bombers.
While I have no issue against the new singer and I still believe Andy Gill is a genius, they need to accept the fact that part of the energy- the electricity of Go4 live was the power struggle between Andy and Jon King. King was a ticking time bomb that could just as easily go into a flailing mad dance as toss a mic stand at his band mates. He'd vacillate between David Byrne-esque geekness and megalomaniacal instability, and though age had blunted the edge, latter-day JK/AG Go4 was still an amazing live act. This new Go4 is.... bland.

Axl Rose is not Guns 'N Roses. Nick Mason is not Pink Floyd. If you're down to ONE original member, it's over. Use your own name as a solo artist or form a new band. I even think it's fine to use a "part" of the name (for example "Gill's Gang") for fan/listener cohesion, but this is NOT Gang of Four.

Would you? Weird. Motorhead was, usually, a three-piece band. One of their "new guys" Phil Campbell has been with the band for over 30 years. When he joined, Lemmy was bass/vocals and (original member) Phil Taylor was still on drums. There's always been a two out of three constant in Motorhead - for decades.
Conversely, here's the Gang of Four line-up:
Andy Gill - original member since 1977
John Sterry - member since 2012
Tom McNeice - member since 2009
Johnny Finnegan - member since 2014
"Hey, that's just like Motorhead!" is the incorrect response.

Who cares what they are called. You either go see them or you don't. It's a Gang of Four experience, which given that it's 2019, that's all we've got, otherwise just stay home and listen to the records and try not to get all jazzed up over a name.

Yes, this is too slow. We saw them play this song in Portland a few weeks ago and they were much faster than this. I'm quite impressed by the new lineup live. The songs, when played at the original tempo, are demand a very athletic performance from the drummer and bass player. I happy to have had the opportunity to see them perform, even if only one original member of the band is left.
+Tiffany St. P.S. I forgot to make my point explicit: the young musicians were able to deliver a much better live performance than this video suggests. The new singer had a lot of energy and his voice isn't trashed. I would have loved to have seen them with all the original members but I was too young and missed it the first time around, and yet I don't feel cheated.

What a pity to read all that shit... Yeah, only one original member now, so what? He still has the right to keep that band name. This is still good music even if it's a little bit different... How much bands keep their original formation but play totally different music after some years (or even months) and lose a lot of fans for that? You don't like it? Just listen to something else and GFY! :D

Jon King doesn't want to be in GoF anymore. It's not Andy's fault. They've had some of the best musicians in the business filtered through the unit called GoF. Today is no exception. See them live and you'll love it as much as I did.

Now play the proper version on the Fast Products EP...with Anthrax and Armalite. Allen and Hugo will smoke those two wankers. Even Posh Producer Gill has forgotten how to get his own sound. Try using something like an H & H transistor amp.

Without Hugo Burnham on drums and at least Sara Lee on bass, the magical songs of my youth are not done justice. As noted below, the tempo needs to be about 25 percent higher. The drums on this sound more suitable for a country song. Compare how fast Lee and Burnham take the song out live in 1983: ua-cam.com/video/YI-9N-PasvM/v-deo.html
