Great job. Makes me a little sad that the woman's father spent so much time collecting that stuff and his daughter didn't seem to value it at all. Sad. The up side is that once you list those items and sell them maybe some other collector will be excited to find them. Always love watching you.
So completely not unusual that a parent spends their life building a collection and the kids don't care a wick. I know my kids plan on donating my stuff when I die.
I can't understand why folks are making negative comments about the lady selling her father's things. It is important to remember that this is just stuff. Yes her father spent his time and money collecting it and I'm sure he enjoyed doing so. Just because she isn't keeping these things doesn't mean she doesn't value it or her father. We all have our own things we like to collect or treasure. I wouldn't expect for my daughter to keep everything I have collected or owned. If its not something she's interested in why should she be burdened with storing it, when she can let it go for others to collect and enjoy. I'm sure she kept some special things of her father, she just doesn't need to keep everything. The amount of things you keep doesn't equal the amount of love you have for them.
My grandfather owned "the Limberlost cabins" in central New York for 30 years. He kept all the change from multiple vending machines. He died about 1960 and my 10 yr old brother got the windfall. 33 shoeboxes of silver dimes and quarters later, he kept a few and sold the rest for smelt value. He divided up the $30,000 among us kids. I wonder how much was in those coins if they were sorted and priced.
Probably nothing. Unless they are in great condition, melt value is what you are looking at, and silver currency is only 90% silver to boot, so they like to short you by adding in the "refining fees"..... If you were to go into a coin dealer, with that many coins especially, they would give you a generic price and if you insisted on having the good ones picked out, they would dock your price to do that work for you, and then you would have to pay to have them graded and certified, assuming there were any of value in the lot. And then, because the dealer would be holding your stuff for so long, he would feel more entitled to give you an insultingly low offer......if they hadnt already decided that amongst the thousands of coins, you wouldnt notice a few missing, possibly your best ones. These days, a silver quarter is worth over $3 though lol. Even if abusively circulated lol.
Wow! No telling the money that was melted. Some rare coins are selling for well over $30,000 each. Coin dealers are going to just weigh it, then give about half of melt value or less. They would not went through them for you. They would for themselves. So $1,100 per shoebox full of silver coins? Wow. I know I would not hesitated to have bought that. Im still sick over my grandpas collection getting stolen from my house. So im sure you probably are sick over your ordeal as well.
I thrifted my whole life thanks to my parents. We had to, really. Saving money & getting what you need is a good thing. Lately, in my area thrift stores are a bit expensive. (Here in San Diego) Love your channel. Great deals for you!!
With that many small items, being lower values, I think it might benefit you to list them in lots, saving you time, and shipping costs (even though you probably have buyers pay for that). Even the coins and medals I would lot out, unless you come across some of more value, say like $25 and up. Just makes it a lot easier for you.
This makes me sad. My aunt was a coin collector. My dad just sold her lot to a coin dealer. He thought he was getting a good deal at 15k until we found the itemized list that had the 60k appraisal.
You were really in the "right place at the right time"!!! You truly MIGHT just be able to retire from this one yard sale! It will be so fun to research what you have there and take your time deciding how to best sell it. I am just coming out of a miserable Covid experience of 11 days and it's so good to feel good. You're going to have a great time with all of the cool pins, coins and more that you found. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!!
I’m glad you and Kayla are feeling better. Getting your energy back to normal is the hardest, but you’re young, shouldn’t be a problem. What an awesome haul…good for you! Great video. ‼️
We just ought a house and the sellers left behind a box of about 2300 Hard Rock Cafe Pins. They said to just keep them. So I’ve started listing them (I know nothing about them) but through researching they do have value. I sold one for $78. 😳 so now I have a new hobby😉
I think the things in the first sale were old ice tongs maybe? Believe they may have been worth money not sure. My Mom and I used to go rummage saling, sure miss her and those days. Enjoy going with your Dad as long as you can.
Those long tongs are used for adjusting logs in your fireplace or dropping a new one neatly onto a stack without getting your hand in the fireplace or around a chain fence that the old homes used to have in front to keep the kids out of the fireplace.
The item you picked up and was wondering what they were are fire tongs ,designed to pick up burning firewood in a fireplace or stove to move around and keep the fire going
, pmsl , I thought they were tools used for forging steel , like removing old metal jugs from mold at extreme heat , by clamping jugs by neck in production, it must be Yorkshire steel industry in me lol
Found your videos and love watching you, Kayla and dad seek out flippable items. I especially like they way you all think through each purchase and then negotiate. The coins, pins and poker chips in this video were an awesome find. Good luck to you all and I'll keep watching.
Not all of them have been recalled. If there's a number etched on the silver collar, close to the handle it's not part of the recall. If there's no etching you can still part out the heating element, basket, cord and lid.
Check those pins for gold content. I happen to find a Frito Lay Corp 10 yr anniversary pin 14 kt gold ... it sold quickly, probably underpriced... but $28 wasn’t bad! One of my early sales 3-4 yrs ago! Also, y’all get well!
This is great. Brings back grand memories. My husband and I went to antique shows and estate sales. I never knew what stuff was worth. I just bought what I liked. My husband knew what certain stuff was worth. We had fun. And craft sales. He’s gone now and I can no longer do that stuff any more.
Those things you had in the beginning are kiln tongs. Commonly used for "lost wax" casting in making jewelry.. They are used to remove a hot metal mold from a kiln.
Wow this is such a cool pick up. Something you guys could take to one of those big garage sales or swap meets. This would be easy to set up and there are a lot of collectors out there. This would take up only a small portion of your booth but bring in some good cash.
You missed out you should have brought that Corning Ware coffee pot , anytime you find Corning Ware you should check it out, a lot of money to be made there
Don't know if anybody has answered your question about the tongs you found but they are for picking up crucibles of molten metal for pouring into molds for casting.
🎈My congratulations on your 💰haul.. The hardiest thing is not showing excitement when you find something of value. Most people don't know, go through the hassle of checking the value of things, or know where to begin.
I collected toys from my childhood and i had over 500 of the one particular toy and as they was 50yrs old i sold 400 of them an made just over 20k i kept the rarest and most complete sets to be sold when short cash . Crazy thing they only cost £5 or so when they came out .
Tools in the beginning are blacksmith tongs. I have a few. Those seem more decorative, but you could still use them. They are long so that you can grab a piece deep in the forge without burning your arm off lol
I love buying smalls like the poker chips pins and boxes of small items. I love sorting items and listing smalls before bed. It's so relaxing to me. Great buys. New to the channel I subscribed
@beardedthriftmachine The two plier type items at the beginning of the video are blacksmith tongs used to put items in and out of the fire and to hold them while forging the item. Hope it helps.
Wow, wow, wow! Great haul! Those long tools in the beginning remind me of something my dad used to use with his smelting (?) pot. He made his own sinkers. I could be wrong, but that's what came to mind when I saw them. Keep us posted on the chips and coins. I'm glad you are feeling better!
I think Bangalore emits an odor when it is wet. I think a test is to lick it and sniff. Seems silly but seems I heard that somewhere. Maybe Antiques Roadshow. I could be wrong...
The 2 iron pieces that asked about I believe are rivet holders! Used to hold red hot rivets as a pneumatic hammer flattened them to attach 2 steel beams.
Those coins are amazing as are the poker chips. I love your idea of a 'rainy day fund' for low inventory or just required 'slow days' ( i hope you and Kayla still find those).
Great finds! I think those tongs are for moving logs in a fire. We had something similar and used them when a log rolled into the back of the fire place. We would pick up the log and put it back on top of the burning wood. That was before you turned on a fire place with a key.
Don at the Auction Professor did a small video on poker chips. He talks about some of the blue and pink ones from one of those white containers. Worth the time to watch.
My wife and I were married for 43 yrs.and had 7kids two boys and 5 girls. My wife just passed away july 15 it broke my heart never thought i'd be without her😢. Going throught our room was hard but she had 2 dollar silver certificate and 1923 silver dollsrs. Also bottles of silver dimes nickles and quarters and pre 1964 Kennedy half dollars. Tons of old pennies and pre 1970 coins.Just going to hold on to it and the kids will mote than likley get it.
3:47 There are some small teddy bears. They may or may not be the mini Boyd’s bears. If they are, a lot of them go for around $40 each. Some of them even go for $400-$500. Crazy!
Hi Julian - Check and see if the casinos they came from are still honoring the value of the chips. That's a great find, I would have bought them too. I will be taking more money with me to garage sales.
Just a thought but when you picked up those tongs and asked if anyone knew what they were for, sometimes I Google lens things and can find out what they're used for through that. Just a thought
Love garage/yard sales like that! WTG with the smalls, cool finds & great haul. I finally hit that subscribe bell, gonna be looking forward to seeing your future finds! 👍
0:35 I have that exact tackle box, bought it at a garage sale 30 years ago or more for $3. I replaced it with a bigger Plano I bought new, bonus is you can send away to them and get a little nameplate to go on it :) I still use the old tackle box, it's my travelling art case :) edit 8:35 if you look closely there you can see the place where the nameplate goes, so I guess they have always done it?
Those long 'things' on the blue tarp, were they "fire irons" for poking coal/carbonnettes (compressed coal) we have them in New Zealand get the fire going then put carbonnettes on fire lasts ages
Love it! I just started looking into coin flips and I've been spending lots of time selling pins - you are exactly right, easy to list & ship! Glad you are both on the mend. Love from NJ.
That was a great pin score! How are pins selling these days? I used to buy and sell a lot of them but moved away from pins due to the nonstop research of each one, it was a lot of work, lol! Do you sell them buyer pays shipping or free ship? Great channel, just found you the other day! Many thanks :)@@beardedthriftmachine
I love buying entire boxes of things. The seller just wants to get rid of the stuff "gimme $20 for the box" break it done piece it out I get $5-700 for a box of buttons.....SCORE!
I bought a wooden box full of knick knacks at an estate sale recently for six bucks, and it was full of tie clips, tie tacks, medallions, etc. some of which go for $10-20 dollars each on Ebay, Mercari and other sites. Always BOLO for boxes full of knick knacks at sales. They could have items and even spare change like pennies that could be worth a lot.
Absolutely loved the video you and Kayla really got a terrific deal own the coins and pins pocket coins may take a little while but you will gaine more knowledge own the items as well probably want have to sell alot to get your money back a great fill in item for eBay with big listings hope you and Kayla continue to get well you both are in my prayers I will be watching for the next notification
I recently retired and have a lot of “STUFF” to get rid of ….it obviously meant something to me at one time. Sometimes you just feel like chucking the whole bunch but I don’t want to do that. I am slowly trying to learn how to sell things online. but I do realize that’s a lot of work. I could use the money being on a fixed income. I have no children or brothers or sisters to leave anything to just my fiancé and if something happens to me, I do not want to leave him with all my things! Thank you for being an inspiration for me, as I am just in the beginnings of sorting through things😅
You should have asked where the real coins are, she probably sold them to a dealer or pawn shop and they weren’t interested in the bronze and copper coins.good luck!
Lol, the guy was smart had the poker chips in the coin protectors and sandwich bagged the coins. All the stuff will sell eventually… shame about the coin condition/treatment though. Proofs would’ve nice, maybe some in there, couldn’t tell
He either bought them like that or spent a lot of time researching and labeling. Helped you out either way. Nice haul, anytime you can get a lot of something for a good price you did good. Just started watching, glad I did.
Thanks so much for watching!!!!
Thanks for having us ☺️ I learned a bunch of new stuff in this video and I appreciate that! Great comps and information
Great finds !!! and Great Return !!!
Those are fireplace tongs
Subscribed. I love this kind of stuff.. especially the live footage from the garage sale negotiations
@@snowdoggie6956 the keys
I've been using those same tongs for arranging logs in my wood stove for over fourty years!!!!!
They're a functional antique kinda like me!
Very cool! =) i should have picked those up =)
That's indeed what they look like, to rearrange the already burning wood or coals.
Great job. Makes me a little sad that the woman's father spent so much time collecting that stuff and his daughter didn't seem to value it at all. Sad. The up side is that once you list those items and sell them maybe some other collector will be excited to find them. Always love watching you.

Yea - especially those poker chips. I like them the most - was thinking about keeping a set 😀
@@beardedthriftmachine You should keep a bit, or a lot. Can always sell it down the road. Enjoy !

The tongs are for wood in a fireplace. Being a coin collector, I would love to find a yard sale with coins like that! 👍 Good haul! 💯
OMG!!! That lady is nuts!! I would never sell my Fathers stuff like that. Very sad!
the kept a good bit in the garage
I was thinking the same thing.
Always grab good quality oil lamps, they always sell. Be willing to ship to Canada and you'll get higher prices.
Fire tongs.
Thank you 😀
Those were for tongues HOT Logs or coals in fireplace. There might be other uses. Great Haul! Best of Luck!!
Thank you 😀 that's what I was thinking :)
They also could be blacksmith tongs for removing items from the forge like horse shoes.
Looney Toons used them on a few episodes 😂
Possibly also for glass blowing to make glass shapes like a vase.
no clue what they were but I've seen somewhat similarly designed items for carrying ice blocks but those do not look designed for that purpose
I believe those tongs were for use in a forge, to handle hot metal. Reproductions of the originals have been sold for years, as fireplace tools.
Thank you
That's what I thought! Figured I'd look first and see if anyone else had the same comment I was about to make!
I think they are for glass blowing actually
We have them here In Ireland as fireplace sets to handle coal and logs that have fallen out of the fire or placement of coal and logs and turf
For glass blowing?
What an incredible haul. I've never seen a poker chip collection. The coins and pins and chips together are just an awesome score.
I know that poker chip collection was awesome! I have really enjoyed researching them: ) very awesome stuff
I wish I had gone to yard sales with my dad, I love that you two enjoy each other’s company.

wow!! that is insane amount of money - yea i think these has been gone through - there were more in the garage not for sale

a small coffee can of silver dimes. It was heavy as all get out. She turned it into the bank.
Ouch.

Hi Julian - Check and see if the casinos they came from are still honoring the value of the chips. That's a great find, I would have bought them too. I will be taking more money with me to garage sales.
I did lookup some of the casinos some seem to be no larger there. Definitely a buy it all moment 😀
Thank you for sharing your find!! Not many yard sales or thrift stores near me, so it's nice to watch you!
Fascinating finds! Seems like a fun thing to go through.
yea we have been doing very good with the pins and single poker chips =) its been fun
the question you had they are coal tongues used to use them to move and or put more coal in the furnaces used
that corningware coffee pot is $75
I had one removed from ebay :(
Dang, I had one that worked and tossed it when I moved! I only paid 2.00 for it from a cranky old guy in the middle of nowhere
@@beardedthriftmachine why did they remove it?
thus questioned items are fireplace tongs for moving wood in fireplaces. I used to make them.
Amazing finds.
Thank you 😀
Just a thought but when you picked up those tongs and asked if anyone knew what they were for, sometimes I Google lens things and can find out what they're used for through that. Just a thought
00:42 I could be wrong but I think they are for picking up logs in a fire or perhaps pinching off glass (pontil) for hand blown glass
I thought they were glass blowing tongs too.
very awesome - i should have bought them
Great score!! Very cool collections!
I agree :) one of the best finds
The small and large items you wanted to know about are "Fire Tongs" for moving hot coal's on an open fire under cooking pot's
Thank you!
Love garage/yard sales like that! WTG with the smalls, cool finds & great haul. I finally hit that subscribe bell, gonna be looking forward to seeing your future finds! 👍
Thank you so much for doing that I really appreciate it :)
Those things Kinda reminds me of metal foundry tools but idk
Thank you for that info :)
Or for a chimney to handle hot cols?? Idk
They are for a fireplace, to move hot logs
Those long 'things' on the blue tarp, were they "fire irons" for poking coal/carbonnettes (compressed coal) we have them in New Zealand get the fire going then put carbonnettes on fire lasts ages
thank you for much for that info!
Love it! I just started looking into coin flips and I've been spending lots of time selling pins - you are exactly right, easy to list & ship! Glad you are both on the mend. Love from NJ.
That is awesome! The pins do very well - we have sold lots out of this lot. 😀 easy shipping and listing for sure :)
That was a great pin score! How are pins selling these days? I used to buy and sell a lot of them but moved away from pins due to the nonstop research of each one, it was a lot of work, lol! Do you sell them buyer pays shipping or free ship? Great channel, just found you the other day! Many thanks :)@@beardedthriftmachine
the 2 things you asked about in the beginning are log tongs for putting a log into the fireplace.
Those giant tongs at the beginning of your video are for moving logs around inside a fireplace
Feel better, Julian! You too Kayla!
Thank you :) we are definitely getting better :)
Its a tongs bro part of a fire iron set😁
I love buying entire boxes of things. The seller just wants to get rid of the stuff "gimme $20 for the box" break it done piece it out I get $5-700 for a box of buttons.....SCORE!
i agree 100% loooove buying boxes full of stuff
I bought a wooden box full of knick knacks at an estate sale recently for six bucks, and it was full of tie clips, tie tacks, medallions, etc. some of which go for $10-20 dollars each on Ebay, Mercari and other sites.
Always BOLO for boxes full of knick knacks at sales. They could have items and even spare change like pennies that could be worth a lot.
How Wonderful for you! It was a super awesome find. Be careful reselling, especially the coins- take your time. This was great to watch!
Thank you so much! We are getting better a little everyday: )
Congrats!!! Great to see you get a GREAT haul.
thank you!
You should have asked where the real coins are, she probably sold them to a dealer or pawn shop and they weren’t interested in the bronze and copper coins.good luck!
They had more in the garage not for sale - you know there were some silver ones :)
Lol, the guy was smart had the poker chips in the coin protectors and sandwich bagged the coins. All the stuff will sell eventually… shame about the coin condition/treatment though. Proofs would’ve nice, maybe some in there, couldn’t tell
@@williamcoe3120 yea there has to be a reason why they are in the protectors.
He either bought them like that or spent a lot of time researching and labeling. Helped you out either way. Nice haul, anytime you can get a lot of something for a good price you did good. Just started watching, glad I did.
