Yeah, he was a sorta mascot, when i look at nintendo, i see mario, but also zelda and samus aran, the back up mascots when i look at sega, i see sonic when i look at ps3, i see the ps logo, always have, always will. he was a failed mascot, pushed hard, given every chance, but he never caught on, thus the failed mascot line is valid. hell, sega doesn't even make game systems anymore, but the sonic mascot is so good, they keep it around, xbox doesn't want the master chief mascot, but it fits so well, and that's their unofficial mascot (you can look it up, interesting story) PS? no mascot, becuse their mascot failed lol, not sure how else to say it

It's called "honest" trailers for a reason. There's not a single statement in this trailer that isn't accurate. For instance, the platforming IS awkward and unfair because of the camera, the 3D is NOT full 3D, Crash IS a failed mascot (did not become iconic like Mario and Sonic), etc.

I think Bubsy is coming back because it's controversial. It trended immediately. If they made some new character no one would know about it. Oddly enough, Bubsy's original developers moved on to make Uncharted Golden Abyss and are now making Days Gone. huh

This was just... SUPER biased compared to most other trailers. For some reason it seemed a lot more opinionated and harsh than others, as if they *really* hated Crash and were forced to do this just because of the viewers
A failed mascot? The Crash series is amongst the most universally critically praised game that the Playstation has ever seen. Im not sure if you remember E3 2016, but as soon as the Crash theme came on. EVERYONE went fucking mental for his return.
I love how he just trashed these games like they aren't beloved classics from the PS1 era. It's a totally different kind of platformer than Mario 64 so that's not even really a fair comparison.

I usually never go out of my way to dislike a video... but this time i made an exception... sure there were many trash spin offs after the crash bandicoot license was sold off but the original trilogy were truly revolutionary games of their time, not just because they were fun, but the technical achievement of putting such vibrant beautiful graphics and character animations on a console with such severe limitations was absolutely earth shattering, no other game developer at the time could come up with anything close to how good crash bandicoot looked and functioned not to mention "Shigeru Miyamoto" the creator of Mario was seen at E3 playing a demo of crash bandicoot and could not stop asking questions like "how was the water done?" and remarked how completely different it was from Mario, so as much as i enjoy a good honest trailer, this time there was very little funny or true about it.
At first I wondered why does this video have so many dislikes. Now I know why. Crash Bandicoot N-Sane trilogy is a success and it is no minor touch up. It was rebuilt.

This video just doesn't seem like the normal Honest Game Trailers quality. I don't care about Crash, but the narrator seemed a bit off, and it just wasn't funny to me.
Sorry, I played these games last year and they still hold up. There's nothing wrong with linear platformers. Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World, Sonic the Hedgehog and Crash Bandicoot are all great games. Why is a 2D game where you run in a straight line brilliant but a 3D one a failure, when it spawned one of the biggest gaming franchises in history? Plus, all of the fun secrets in each game was part of the appeal, finding hidden exits and bonus levels, etc. Super Mario 64 is good, sure, but that's like saying that Wonder Woman isn't good because it isn't at complex as Logan. Logan might be better, but that doesn't mean Wonder Woman still isn't great. SM64 might be better than Crash, but that doesn't mean both are good. They are different, and just like how some people will like WW better than Logan, some people like Crash better than SM64, myself included. The Crash series is a mixed bag, but the first 3 titles and CTR are brilliant, classic games. But I guess you need them to be a crappy FPS or something to consider it brilliant.

But that's what honest trailers is. They get intentionally nitpicky and overanalyze things solely for the purposes of making these trailers AS A JOKE. It seems many Crash Bandicoot fans are just oversensitive and have no sense of humor. Perhaps they're reflexively overdefensive because they remember how it felt growing up on Crash Bandicoot when friends had Super Mario 64. As someone who played and enjoyed both, Super Mario 64 was not only a much better game, but it carries much more historical significance for the gaming industry and is the defining game of that generation. Admitting that doesn't diminish Crash Bandicoot, it's just stating a fact. Not everything has to be a competition.

Can you really call Crash a "failed mascot" when everyone and their mother remembers him fondly after all these years and recognize him as a household name? when I hear the term "failed mascot" I think of something that very few to NO people would remember. Like Croc or god forbid Bubsy. I'm not sure you can call Crash a failure when he's been etched into the hearts of many children and parents alike. If you're memorable, you didn't fail. I can see why this video has dislikes. I still love the honest trailers, but this was just going a bit too far in the realm of personal bias.
lobelix11397 Failed mascot as in he isn't relevant anymore. Up until this remaster the only games a lot of Crash Bandicoot fans liked was the PS1 games. However Mario to this day is popular and consistently sales well and is met with praise. Hell, Crash went multiplatform and was even om the Gamecube and GBA, how can he be the mascot of playstation? I do agree that there was a fair bit of bias in here but the failed mascot part is 100% true.
Whoever wrote this episode needs to be sacked. These should be making sarcastic and tongue in cheek jokes that are technically true. Not something mean spirited, untrue and inaccurate. Feels like the write of this video was just bad at the game and couldn't get over it.

For Crash Bandicoot 3 they created two different engines extra, just for the plane levels and motorcycle levels alone. No. You don't know. You didn't do any research at all for the history of Crash. Yea, but newer gamers are not going to go back and play Crash and if they do it will be for 20 minutes and they'll move on. The series doesn't have anything to pull and keep them involved besides "I played the one on the PS2". More people go back to Sonic Adventure 1/2 than Crash. Unarguably worse games. Crash does not have a lasting impact.
Lowkey Crash Team Racing is one of the best kart racing games I've ever played. Also, I've played every single Crash Game on the market (Don't ask, I just love Crash), but people ALWAYS forget that Crash Twinsanity was one of the best games in the series, with an especially sick ost. If you don't believe me, try it out! You might have some fun!
There's actually been some talk that the devs of Twinsanity might get back together and remaster the game with all the cut content. A couple of people who worked at Traveler's Tales Oxford are now at Vicarious Visions.

While I understand that you guys have your own opinions regarding this franchise, understand that akin to the Mario series, this platformer has a pretty large following too and is good and even better than Mario in many ways. I liked it better when you sticked to constructive criticism only. It's one thing to take jabs at a game's shortcomings with humor while it's entirely another thing to just call a 20 year old game and it's fans dumb because you prefer another game over it.

You can't bloody 'cheese spells from a distance' without convulsing the screen of the game in a half-futile attempt to aim, because you can't lock past about five to ten feet. Honest Game Trailers always mocks about the gameplay, bugs and glitches that appear in the game, how bad or good has been its evolution through its sequels. But this time it does not feel like they are mocking, it feels like they do not like the game and the comments are full of hate.
To all Crash Bandicoot a failed mascot is to take it too far there... Literally almost anyone who has owned or owns a playstation knows who Crash Bandicoot is. And many people who are above 18 today have played the original Crash games on the original playstation. So please don't spout random garbage about an all time classic that's exclusive to playstation. Because almost anyone who have played Crash Bandicoot will agree that he's by no means a "failed mascot" more than what mario would be for Nintendo or Halo (Master Chief) for Xbox.

Sony never even considered him his mascot post PS1, they use other characters as their mascot like the dude of god of war. right now what they are doing is an experiment to see if he can be revived with a remaster of its first games. they aren't even doing something new with him, they are literally cashing on nostalgia. the game isn't bad by any means, but honest trailer never said it was bad in the first place they said that it was a solid game, and it is. but it is nothing more, and yeah crash indeed is a fail mascot.

This was the only series of this channel I actually enjoyed, this turned out to be really unfunny, just pure hate, probably got new writers because this was really bad
the difference between their crash video and every other honest game trailers video is that you can tell they didn't even bother to play the game and only made assumptions looking at footage, I mean they don't even talk about whats good, whats frustraing, or what everybody thinks when they reach a certain part, half the time they keep comparing it to other games like sonic and mario64 which are completely different.
Instead of being great satire and pointing out genuine flaws and making fun of them, this just seemed like an unnecessary bashing that actually wasn't justified through the writing - wtf honest trailers, you've really gone to shit
True the only thing that is legit critism is the bolder Chase levels. And it's not like there aren't things to make fun off. Like the awful vehcrils in Crash 3 or the impossible to work out secrets in 2. (Yep jump down this random hole for a secret area, somehow figure out that your not meant to break any boxes in this level to get the blue gem ect)

I thought the whole gimmick of Honest Trailers was to take something, and make a parody trailer of it that is completely blunt and pessimistic. Maybe it's just me.
It is, but this didn't come off as parody, the speaker for this video sounded like he had a genuine hatred of this series and came off as ignorant and biased the way he bashed the game. Their insults about their fanbase being in denial that Mario is a better game than Crash was especially rude and made them sound like salty Nintendo fanboys.

Most Honest Trailers talk about some of the positives of a game. But this one mentioned nothing positive about the franchise and just spewed hate and negativity towards it.

Why was honest trailers so brutal with this one? This was less comedic and more mean-spirited if anything...I've seen actually bad games they've covered on honest trailer get less of a beating than this.
As someone who's never very familiar with the series you guys make trailers of, I absolutely love your videos. I live under a rock anyway. But this trailer fell flat. I don't particularly like Crash Bandicoot. Regardless, nothing about this was entertaining. Where's the playful humor? Self depreciating jokes? No lampshading? This was basically an adolescent hate video disguised as a part of a legitimate series. Anyway, I'm 100% certain you guys hired a dud to write this one. Based on all the negative reception you guys got on this one, I'm sure you've already done something about it. But seriously! Quality check your work, guys! Regardless, I look forward to your future works.
Very well said. I'm not a huge Crash fan, and generally do agree that it's aged poorly overall(especially compared to Spyro which has always seemed to be a bit of a friendly rival to the series), but this trailer just falls flat on all fronts. It feels less like the jovial roast that you tend to get with these trailers, and more like someone just has a thing against it. And, hilariously enough, this trailer itself has probably aged worse than the original trilogy has. 8 months later, and the N Sane Trilogy was a textbook success beyond just getting people to "spend $40 on a touched up 20 year old game." The original Crash Trilogy's gameplay seems to have found a niche in people's hearts, regardless of nostalgia and sold like gangbusters. People seem generally hyped about Crash, and a new game in the vein of the originals(even folks who don't have a prior connection to the games). Color me surprised, but I'm glad for it and the opportunity to go through Crash 3 again, and the opportunity it's opened up for a Spyro remaster. And amidst the success of Mario Odyssey's success, Cuphead, A Hat in Time to a lesser extent, resurging interest in(and re-release of) Tropical Freeze, and the near-certainty of a Spyro remaster coming out this year in response to Crash' positive reception, 3:28 is just kind of embarrassing in hindsight. Mascot platformers are going through something of a mini-renaissance, and you'd be hard-pressed to find folks who are particularly bent out of shape over it.

Honest Trailer guy hates Crash so much that he fucked up the dates. Crash Bandicoot and Super Mario 64 both came out on the same month and the same year September 1996 (unfortunately though I couldn't find Crash's Japanese release date, but Mario 64 came out in June of that year). Way to not do your research guy. But then you HATE this franchise and don't deny that you hate commenters. This video s all about nothing but hate, this is why your really starting to fail.
Crash Japanese release date is in December. You can even see this in the GDC talks. Doesn't change the fact that Nintendo released an open world game in an era when that wasn't really a thing yet. Even the developers at Rockstar admit that Grand Theft Auto stole a lot of its ideas from Super Mario 64. Crash is still shitty. It just kept doing what already had come before.

They're not really Nintendo fanboys either, they said that Odyssey is the first 3D Mario since Galaxy. Essentially they've started making trailers for sponsorships and ads, rather than comedy.

That is a really funny movie! The sequel wasn't as great as the first one, the only original moment was with William "James T Kirk" Shatner, it was the funniest scene on the two movies imo.
Agreed. Usually these videos point out the flaws and the stuff people liked about them, not just trash on the games the entire time. I usually like these, but this one comes off immature as hell. Its like that kid you couldn't play games with as a kid because if he lost they'd go tattle and get you in trouble. Just because they were a sore loser. I know that's probably not the best comparison, but its the best I can come up with right now.
It's funny cause it's true! ...except it's not true. People still play the bandicoot games to this day, and while the first game is certainly dated, 2 and Warped hold up incredibly well. I owned both a 64 and a playstation, and Crash Bandicoot 2 was the first game I begged my parents to buy for me because of how fun the demo was. Still, I don't know how fair it is to compare Mario 64 to Crash. Mario 64 invented a new formula for platforming and did it fantastically, while Crash took the old formula of platforming and brought it to the next level.
They are legit things to make fun of in the franchise, but they didn't do any of it. For example complain about the difficult second path in the first level of the first game. The game uses animals that most have no idea what they are irl, in my case i know a lot of people that though Coco and Tawna were the same character, How the death animations escalate with each game. It's quite painful to see they didn't went for the most obvious jokes and instead say the game is bad without much explanation. A terrible work indeed.
No, Mario did not invent a new formula. It just took an existing formula, and did it slightly better than other games. I don't get what the big deal about Mario 64 is. I thought it sucked back then, and I think it sucks today.
Nope, they don't. I agree Warped holds up the most but people don't look back on them as fond as people do with Mario 64 or OoT. Crash doesn't bring in the views like Mario 64 does. I cannot fault Crash because it wasn't bad, but it played too safe to the formula and didn't get adventurous until Warped. I wished Naughty Dog would get a chance to make the sequel we wanted but those people have since left.

I usually never go out of my way to dislike a video... but this time i made an exception... sure there were many trash spin offs after the crash bandicoot license was sold off but the original trilogy were truly revolutionary games of their time, not just because they were fun, but the technical achievement of putting such vibrant beautiful graphics and character animations on a console with such severe limitations was absolutely earth shattering, no other game developer at the time could come up with anything close to how good crash bandicoot looked and functioned not to mention "Shigeru Miyamoto" the creator of Mario was seen at E3 playing a demo of crash bandicoot and could not stop asking questions like "how was the water done?" and remarked how completely different it was from Mario, so as much as i enjoy a good honest trailer, this time there was very little funny or true about it.

This video just doesn't seem like the normal Honest Game Trailers quality. I don't care about Crash, but the narrator seemed a bit off, and it just wasn't funny to me.

Sorry, I played these games last year and they still hold up. There's nothing wrong with linear platformers. Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario World, Sonic the Hedgehog and Crash Bandicoot are all great games. Why is a 2D game where you run in a straight line brilliant but a 3D one a failure, when it spawned one of the biggest gaming franchises in history? Plus, all of the fun secrets in each game was part of the appeal, finding hidden exits and bonus levels, etc.
Super Mario 64 is good, sure, but that's like saying that Wonder Woman isn't good because it isn't at complex as Logan. Logan might be better, but that doesn't mean Wonder Woman still isn't great. SM64 might be better than Crash, but that doesn't mean both are good. They are different, and just like how some people will like WW better than Logan, some people like Crash better than SM64, myself included.
The Crash series is a mixed bag, but the first 3 titles and CTR are brilliant, classic games. But I guess you need them to be a crappy FPS or something to consider it brilliant.

But that's what honest trailers is. They get intentionally nitpicky and overanalyze things solely for the purposes of making these trailers AS A JOKE. It seems many Crash Bandicoot fans are just oversensitive and have no sense of humor. Perhaps they're reflexively overdefensive because they remember how it felt growing up on Crash Bandicoot when friends had Super Mario 64. As someone who played and enjoyed both, Super Mario 64 was not only a much better game, but it carries much more historical significance for the gaming industry and is the defining game of that generation. Admitting that doesn't diminish Crash Bandicoot, it's just stating a fact. Not everything has to be a competition.

I love Mario as much as the next person, but Crash Bandicoot was an *amazing* game, and yes, it is a CLASSIC.

Yea, but newer gamers are not going to go back and play Crash and if they do it will be for 20 minutes and they'll move on. The series doesn't have anything to pull and keep them involved besides "I played the one on the PS2". More people go back to Sonic Adventure 1/2 than Crash. Unarguably worse games. Crash does not have a lasting impact.

There's actually been some talk that the devs of Twinsanity might get back together and remaster the game with all the cut content. A couple of people who worked at Traveler's Tales Oxford are now at Vicarious Visions.

Wow, this felt like borderline insulting. While I understand that you guys have your own opinions regarding this franchise, understand that akin to the Mario series, this platformer has a pretty large following too and is good and even better than Mario in many ways. I liked it better when you sticked to constructive criticism only. It's one thing to take jabs at a game's shortcomings with humor while it's entirely another thing to just call a 20 year old game and it's fans dumb because you prefer another game over it.

To all Crash Bandicoot a failed mascot is to take it too far there... Literally almost anyone who has owned or owns a playstation knows who Crash Bandicoot is. And many people who are above 18 today have played the original Crash games on the original playstation. Crash bandicoot was such a fail that they put him on skylanders(place where mascots try to be brought back to life) and went on to be part of the nintendo platforms more than in PS. Sony never even considered him his mascot post PS1, they use other characters as their mascot like the dude of god of war. right now what they are doing is an experiment to see if he can be revived with a remaster of its first games. they aren't even doing something new with him, they are literally cashing on nostalgia.

the difference between their crash video and every other honest game trailers video is that you can tell they didn't even bother to play the game and only made assumptions looking at footage, I mean they don't even talk about whats good, whats frustraing, or what everybody thinks when they reach a certain part, half the time they keep comparing it to other games like sonic and mario64 which are completely different.

As someone who's never very familiar with the series you guys make trailers of, I absolutely love your videos. I live under a rock anyway.
But this trailer fell flat. I don't particularly like Crash Bandicoot. Regardless, nothing about this was entertaining. Where's the playful humor? Self depreciating jokes? No lampshading? This was basically an adolescent hate video disguised as a part of a legitimate series.
Anyway, I'm 100% certain you guys hired a dud to write this one. Based on all the negative reception you guys got on this one, I'm sure you've already done something about it. But seriously! Quality check your work, guys!

Very well said. I'm not a huge Crash fan, and generally do agree that it's aged poorly overall(especially compared to Spyro which has always seemed to be a bit of a friendly rival to the series), but this trailer just falls flat on all fronts.
It feels less like the jovial roast that you tend to get with these trailers, and more like someone just has a thing against it. And, hilariously enough, this trailer itself has probably aged worse than the original trilogy has. 8 months later, and the N Sane Trilogy was a textbook success beyond just getting people to "spend $40 on a touched up 20 year old game." The original Crash Trilogy's gameplay seems to have found a niche in people's hearts, regardless of nostalgia and sold like gangbusters. People seem generally hyped about Crash, and a new game in the vein of the originals(even folks who don't have a prior connection to the games). Color me surprised, but I'm glad for it and the opportunity to go through Crash 3 again, and the opportunity it's opened up for a Spyro remaster.
And amidst the success of Mario Odyssey's success, Cuphead, A Hat in Time to a lesser extent, resurging interest in(and re-release of) Tropical Freeze, and the near-certainty of a Spyro remaster coming out this year in response to Crash' positive reception, 3:28 is just kind of embarrassing in hindsight. Mascot platformers are going through something of a mini-renaissance, and you'd be hard-pressed to find folks who are particularly bent out of shape over it.

Honest Trailer guy hates Crash so much that he fucked up the dates. Crash Bandicoot and Super Mario 64 both came out on the same month and the same year September 1996 (unfortunately though I couldn't find Crash's Japanese release date, but Mario 64 came out in June of that year). Crash Japanese release date is in December. You can even see this in the GDC talks.
Doesn't change the fact that Nintendo released an open world game in an era when that wasn't really a thing yet. Even the developers at Rockstar admit that Grand Theft Auto stole a lot of its ideas from Super Mario 64.

...except it's not true. People still play the bandicoot games to this day, and while the first game is certainly dated, 2 and Warped hold up incredibly well. I owned both a 64 and a playstation, and Crash Bandicoot 2 was the first game I begged my parents to buy for me because of how fun the demo was.
Still, I don't know how fair it is to compare Mario 64 to Crash. Mario 64 invented a new formula for platforming and did it fantastically, while Crash took the old formula of platforming and brought it to the next level.
They are legit things to make fun of in the franchise, but they didn't do any of it. For example complain about the difficult second path in the first level of the first game. The game uses animals that most have no idea what they are irl, in my case i know a lot of people that though Coco and Tawna were the same character, How the death animations escalate with each game.
It's quite painful to see they didn't went for the most obvious jokes and instead say the game is bad without much explanation. A terrible work indeed.

Nope, they don't. I agree Warped holds up the most but people don't look back on them as fond as people do with Mario 64 or OoT. Crash doesn't bring in the views like Mario 64 does. I cannot fault Crash because it wasn't bad, but it played too safe to the formula and didn't get adventurous until Warped. I wished Naughty Dog would get a chance to make the sequel we wanted but those people have since left.
People still play the Sonic Adventure games to this day, that doesn't make them good.
I'd bargain more people play those than Crash games.
