High Road wasn't as difficult in the original. Precise jumping and controls made it tolerable. Crash 1 suffers from slippery mechanics that 2 & 3 work well with. Causing Crash 1 to be ultimately much much much more difficult.

Stormy Ascent just requires good precision and timing. Not easy, but not absurdly hard either. Also the time trial is super lenient. The High Road is unfair. New jump physics make it harder, too good hitboxes make it harder and it was already ridiculous in the original. Took me 7 hours to get the gold relic there. In ONE completion. It took me 7 hours just to beat the level in time trial. Thank gods it was a gold.
Crash Bandicoot has taught me that I have gotten worse at gaming over the years. As a kid these games where very doable, now it makes me rage so damn much that I have had to (temporarily) abandon the first game to regain my sanity
Wait.. that first level.. you can just hit the thing and jump accross.. I speed ran that level getting the 3 masks (the ooga booga as I have always called him) so I can run accross and get them all thinking this is what I had to do. The first hour of my game went there
M Wadud They gave every game the same physics- most similar to Crash 3. So while some levels, like Hog Wild, are easier. Many (especially in the first game) are much more difficult- for example Crash's jump distance is now effected by momentum- which makes high road _even more_ difficult as Crash can't always jump as far he needs without a running start but there is no room to do so, so you gotta jump very close to the ledge often times.
Lol i died like 10 times before figuring out how to damage him then i died like another 3 times before finishing him off. But i completed the game except for the 2 dlc levels.
You know, having finally gotten to play N. Sane Trilogy, I realized that they're actually harder than when we were kids. I think its the modeling for a lot of the platforms, they're rounded now instead of flat. Go and check it out, I'm telling you. Anyway, my level that put me through the wringer is The Great Gate (I think that's the name) in Crash 1, I must have spent hours playing through it.
I finished the whole trilogy without any game over and got all platinum relics on each game (including stormy ascent and future tense) I was 12 (no joke)
I just recently got it on pc and plat relic'd every level on crash 1, just got all golds for crash 2, and now im gonna do crash 3, after that ill probably go back and platinum relic 2 and 3 since the gold just isnt good enough lmao
Getting the gold relic on The High Road took me over 2 hours and was the last thing I needed to do to finally get the platinum trophy. Then they released Stormy Ascent I just can't even.

“...A collection of three games that are every bit as fun as I remember... and also every bit as hard as I don’t remember.” Couldn’t have said it better myself. Three levels in had me wondering how I ever finished the story of the first game.
As the co-creator and lead programmer of the original 3 Crash games, this is hilarious 😆. Most of the cry inducing moments were of course there in the original. You should have seen the original version of the High Road. We took out about 75% of the challenges. Haha. But something they made harder in the remake. Most consequentially, they screwed up my carefully tuned jump variable logic and made it a single fixed larger jump. It’s actually a lot harder and less nuanced than the air controls in the original. Make all the tight jumps a bit harder. Of course they did fix our ludicrously bad Crash 1 “save” system.
I just beat Crash 1 105%. I had to do it over again because of the 104% bug glitch and now I have to get all Platinum Relics and majority of Developer times beat over again. I’ve lost my touch because of doing Crash 2 100% then most of 3 and it’s affected my gameplay of the first one but hopefully after many tries I’ll git gud again and 3 will follow. I know it’s hard but I thank you sir for making such a good game! 😊
Hi Andy! Once a year I become nostalgic for Crash Bandicoot and I'll either play the games and/or watch videos of them. Crash Bandicoot 2 in particular is one of my favourite games of all time (I can count my favourite games on just one hand). Crash 2 is so well-balanced and finely tuned. It was also my first playstation game as I was a little late in owning the first Crash game and a playstation console. It was 1997 when I received a playstation console and Crash 2 as my first choice of game for Christmas, so I am now an older gamer. Making a remake of your favourite game is always going to be a tricky thing in case of ruining it, as well as having your memories attached with it, and in my case, my childhood memories. All I wanted from a Crash remake were better graphics but with the same style and some quality of life improvements. I think that they made a very good game (N. Sane trilogy) but the platforming is different, I much prefer the originals. It is crazy to think that the originals are better than a remake made on a 4th generation console 20 years later. I was searching for you and your views on the N. Sane trilogy and Crash 4 but couldn't find anything and then I randomly stumbled on this comment of yours! I am curious to know which specific part in the game did they change/mess up your "carefully tuned jump variable logic" for the jump? You Sir and Jason Rubin are my gaming heroes - you both created and gave me one of my favourite games of all time and gave me some of my best childhood memories that will stay with me forever, Thank You! Excuse the pun but Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back is an absolute gem of a game!
Having the Platinum trophy didnt look so great when you noticed 87%. Now i beat the Stormy Ascent trial that took me 3hrs. The 100% trophy feels good tho.
So I decided I'm going for a completionist run and platinum the game but I'm trying to get the Time Trial for "Native Fortress" and I'm already regreting my decision.

So so true! When I first got the remastered trilogy I could not believe how much harder I was finding it...but then the more I played the more I remembered and then unlocked the memory I had of me breaking my ps1 controller... nostalgia hey? I'm currently re playing through the triology now in honour of the 4th 😬 I am dreading a lot of levels...high road is one of them
I never played this series, it looks so good , but difficulty is giving me pause. Someone recommended starting with the 3rd, easiest, and work my way to the 1st, which is hardest. Would you agree ?
I'll never forget the original "Crash Bandicoot The Wrath Of Cortex" on Sony PlayStation 2. It was the first game I had to learn to play one handed because I had broken my finger on my left hand and had to have it in a splint, so I could only use my right hand. Do you know how hard the time trials were one handed???
I have 1 and 2 completed with all gems, relics and achievements. What's stopping me in my tracks trying to complete warped is that rings of power level. And water physics in jet ski levels too (but I did get platinum on hot coco with that nitro glitch)
Crash 1: Native Fortress, High Road, Sunset Vista, Fumbling in the Dark Crash 2: Cold Hard Crash, Bee-Having, Piston it Away Crash 3: Future Frenzy, Area 51, Hot Coco if i missed any hard levels put them up
the oldest video image in my family is my dad recording me with a camcorder when I was 12 as I did the great hall crying cause i finally finished it. shout out to Gamewinners(RIP) cause never woulda beat it without them back then
Got the platinum trophy for both Crash 2 and 3 but the mere thought of tackling the relics on Slippery Climb and The High Road gives me anxiety, and thus I haven't even given it a try.
Actually, we WILL get a Spyro remake. Just like this game, the first 3 games from the Spyro series: Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! and Spyro: Year of the Dragon will be released in a compilation entitled Spyro: Reignited Trilogy. It comes out in September.
I totally agree with those 7 challanges in Crash Bandicoot, I have already faced all back when I still had my PS 1. All of them are so goddamn hard, even without you completing it with 100% progress.
I love this video Rob, having just went back to the N-Sane Trilogy recently I have rediscovered my gaming rage! I found Crash Bandicoot 1 to be almost bloody impossible...I can't remember it being that hard when I played it on the PS1 back in the day. It's infuriating! I took about 3,854 attempts at The High Road. Then! I found out there was ANOTHER level up on a bridge THAT WAS EVEN HARDER! It took me about a week to build up the courage to play it and it has so far took over 200 attempts to reach the second checkpoint!
I have just bought this game & agree with every word you say. Having just finished Rayman Origins & Sonic Mania I thought how hard can it be ??????? Thoroughly enjoyed your video. Laughed so much.
Actually, I found a "trick" to make High Road easier. It's still not a breeze, but it makes it a little easier. Focus on Crash's shadow when jumping, not on Crash himself. By doing that, you'll know where you'll land. As for my entry, it would be to get both gems on Crash 2's Cold Hard Crash. IT'S! TOO! HARD! You need two shields getting to the death route so the one they give you is the third and you can break the nitro boxes for when you have to get back. Yes! Because you DO have to get back. Because dodging nitros on ice with falling logs, holes to jump and hedgehogs weren't fricking enough! And to top it off, it's really hard to stop to go back once you finish the death route. You'll have to time everything really well, or else you'll fall down and won't be able to get the box gem. PTSD intensifies!
They should have 3 difficulty settings, Sane Mode: Infinite Lives, for testing purposes Crash Mode: Start with 4 Extra Lives, default difficulty N Sanity Mode: You cannot get any Extra Lives, for hardcore players
I literally spent 3 hours getting the relic on The High Road last night. And I swear to God you summed it up so perfectly. Especially the part to where you do so well and then you start failing on the stuff you were just doing so well on lol.
My boyfriend did the hog race in the hard mode, got every time box and didn't falter throughout the whole race. Basically had an unbeatable time. I spent ages trying to beat his time, got all the way through and crashed at the last hurdle...but the crash threw me from the pig into the finish line faster then he had run it and I got the best, essentially unbeatable, time. XD Even better is that he'll probably read this comment and feel the burn again ;)
I've 100% all 3 of the original Crash Bandicoot games (add Crash Team Racing too, Platinum included) in my childhood but I'm NOT gonna do it again because of how long it's gonna take! Makes me wonder how damn nuts I was 18 years ago... I was just 12 at that time. 12!!! By far the toughest thing was getting all the Platinum relics. I still remember getting a Platinum on Hot Coco on my first try hahahaha. The one I had a really tough time getting a Platinum was Road Crash - Level 14. Staying at top speed at all times while hitting all the time crates while avoiding all the obstacles and crud was really, really challenging.
1. I was today years old when I realized you can use the ropes to get thru the High Road. 2. Why this man knows each anxiety I had playing this game growing up & now? Brought trilogy for my son for Christmas, just to introduce him to the gaming world, & I think I play it more than him

mobious01 HeHe dosent Hardest level
The only hard part was going for all the Gold/Platinum relics.
ClassicGamerX11 I got all the gems but those dam stupid relics are hard😂
You are wise, my friend.
In some levels, gold is hard enough to get. When I get a gold I just say "that's good enough I'm done with that damn level"
I have 1 and 2 completed with all gems, relics and achievements. What's stopping me in my tracks trying to complete warped is that rings of power level. And water physics in jet ski levels too (but I did get platinum on hot coco with that nitro glitch)
ClassicGamerX11 and sunset Vista
Crash 1: Native Fortress, High Road, Sunset Vista, Fumbling in the Dark Crash 2: Cold Hard Crash, Bee-Having, Piston it Away Crash 3: Future Frenzy, Area 51, Hot Coco if i missed any hard levels put them up
Aleksi Koivuporras slippery climb
native fortress and sunset vista ez tho
high time
stormy ascent
hog wild in the remaster there is one jump wich is almoxt impossible
Coming back here after crash 4 and this list will defiantly need revisiting, that game is hard as nails
This video made me laugh and cry more than I’ve done in a long time 😂
"The high road" yeah just cheated on that one
Just got Platinum for Crash 1... I feel you
TheRapeTrain bless you sir. you are indeed gifted.
Corey Mckee Thank You
Ive done all 3 now for Plat's They get easier now man :) but dont try 2 an warped time trials until you get the runnings shoes.
MeWantCookiee I don't believe I was talking to you😅
Corey Mckee MeWantCookiee is my primary account ^^ sry
Got Crash Bandicoot 2 and 3 Platinum, still need to gather up courage to finish Crash Bandicoot 1. Those Time Trials...
"It seperates the people who finished crash and the people who FINISHED crash!"
Im not sure if he did it on purpose🤣
I freaking hate the high road level, currently stuck on it and I'm about to smash my Nintendo switch out of frustration.
Hey, just out of question. What's the switch port of the game like?
@@yeye8915 it's great, just like the PS1, but with much better graphics.. if you're used to the switch controls, then you're good to go.
If you hurt that Switch, I'll hurt you.
@@MostafaHany I Was Stuck On That Damn Level Bee Having For A While But Beat It ( And My God It Hurts To Say Bee Having )
the oldest video image in my family is my dad recording me with a camcorder when I was 12 as I did the great hall crying cause i finally finished it. shout out to Gamewinners(RIP) cause never woulda beat it without them back then
The game has been out for a whole month and there's still popular videos being made on it. Well done, vicarious visions
Classical Theist It’s been out for over a year and there’s still videos being made on it. Granted it did just come out on Xbox, Switch, and PC.
It's a very great game.
I got for pc
Trying to 100% high road for game platinum literally mad me contemplate life all together
Same
So proud that I platinumed the trilogy... so so wonderfully difficult! I felt your pain in these moments, particularly the last one!
Brilliant. I am currently battling Road to Nowhere after suffering a long time on Native Fortress. I have a long way to go. Great video.
"Do not look directly at the past!"
Papu papu is the easiest boss I've ever seen
you've seen? OK.....
only YOU've seen...
he is easier that you don't have to wait for him to slam his stick on the ground it took me a few tries to figure that out by accident.
Komodo brothers...
Lawrence Stevens they were easy in my opinion
0:38 this is the darkest PlayStation Access' ever been
dont forget about the lost city, it has the hardest gem, hardest boxes, god man. i lost my sanity in that level
Got the platinum trophy for both Crash 2 and 3 but the mere thought of tackling the relics on Slippery Climb and The High Road gives me anxiety, and thus I haven't even given it a try.
Who's laughing at this after playing crash 4?
Easy as compared to some crash 4 levels
Laughs in Cortex Castle & Toxic Tunnels
@Jordan Carreira all I can say is good luck especially if you try time trials or perfect relic
Jordan Carreira really really hard to 106%
@Jordan Carreira True, Getting EVERYTHING unlocked in Crash games is the true challenge.
6:13 ♫ *Doofenshmirtz throwing a booooottle*♫
Diana Cavendish omg
MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY
This game is actually one hardest things i have played imagine the difficulty on a spyro remake if activision decided to make that
Activision had nothing to do with N.Sane but ok
Probably not hard at all, except for Spyro 3. 1 and 2 are some of the easiest games I’ve ever played
PonmonofNuggetor I thought one and two were way harder than three, imo
'on a spyro remake'
well, we get one :D
Actually, we WILL get a Spyro remake. Just like this game, the first 3 games from the Spyro series: Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! and Spyro: Year of the Dragon will be released in a compilation entitled Spyro: Reignited Trilogy. It comes out in September.
10:50 I’m in stitches at how Rob perfectly describes the play by play of my relic chasing campaign and I’m sure many others as well
I totally agree with those 7 challanges in Crash Bandicoot, I have already faced all back when I still had my PS 1. All of them are so goddamn hard, even without you completing it with 100% progress.
Oh god, this is so true, the amount of times I lost my mind playing Crash 😭 but it's still my favourite game 😄
Crash 4 its about time is harder than all three of the trilogy games combined
Papu Papu is one of the easiest boss battles ever... I just went on the chair and kept jumping on him. 2 extra lives? I don't care!
Exactly
I love this video Rob, having just went back to the N-Sane Trilogy recently I have rediscovered my gaming rage! I found Crash Bandicoot 1 to be almost bloody impossible...I can't remember it being that hard when I played it on the PS1 back in the day. It's infuriating! I took about 3,854 attempts at The High Road. Then! I found out there was ANOTHER level up on a bridge THAT WAS EVEN HARDER! It took me about a week to build up the courage to play it and it has so far took over 200 attempts to reach the second checkpoint!
Which level is that? High Road is the “bigger brother” of Road to nowhere…
High Road and Slippery Climb were bad enough. I actually have PTSD from Stormy Ascent.
Hardest level? Try to get platinum in The lab ;) Took 2 days
OMYGOD yess for Me i only got the GOLD but maaannn it made me go INSANE doing it
the gold is hard enough lol
@@jb1004 lool bang on the money mate
The Lab was easy. It's short and just memorization based. Native Fortress or the High Road, however.... Kill me =)
I thought "road to nowhere" would be the last i'd see of a poorly maintained bridge...... man was i wrong af lol.
I honestly just walked across the ropes on the entirety of High Road 😅
I love this video review. Describes my love for Crash in the funniest way possible!
I have just bought this game & agree with every word you say. Having just finished Rayman Origins & Sonic Mania I thought how hard can it be ??????? Thoroughly enjoyed your video. Laughed so much.
Let's not forget the death bonuses trying to get the coloured gems on Crash 2 😭😭😭
omgggggg my voice went hoarse from screaming so much at death routes
8:18 Every mainstream Crash player
Just keep on practicing.
The high road is the real test.... Ohh mannn....
Also we did so much struggle with crash bandicoot 3 neo cortex... Really good video....
I played the High Road for HOURS to receive the platium Relict for the Platinum Trophy -.-
dosnbeer 6 u only need gold relics
They should have 3 difficulty settings,
Sane Mode: Infinite Lives, for testing purposes
Crash Mode: Start with 4 Extra Lives, default difficulty
N Sanity Mode: You cannot get any Extra Lives, for hardcore players
Gin and Cortex are really easy in warped. Lol
Gin yes, Cortex no
@@deinonychus1948 I've seen this video before cortex so I knew I had to be accurate when the hole opened
N.Gin in Warped and Cortex in CB2 actually .
I literally spent 3 hours getting the relic on The High Road last night. And I swear to God you summed it up so perfectly. Especially the part to where you do so well and then you start failing on the stuff you were just doing so well on lol.
Fatigue
I’m playing this on Xbox atm and this video had me in stitches. The High Road, I’m so glad it’s done, it nearly destroyed me 😂
I’m currently stock in the road to nowhere, its making want to break my control 😂
XD
Even better is that he'll probably read this comment and feel the burn again ;)
Woah!
