This guy is probably the most underrated president in history.
uhh, Calvin Coolidge is the most underrated!
Gupta He's the most underrated Republican. Not the most underrated overall in my opinion. Polk is more underrated to me because he got EVERYTHING on his major agenda done in one term. He's one of the most successful presidents we've ever had, and it's a shame he isn't as well known as Lincoln, Washington, Roosevelt, etc.
ProteanGreninja definitely give you that! Manifest destiny was pretty good my dude
Viva México :(
Tong Zou Yup. He accomplished EVERY objective on his major agenda. And like you said, in just 4 YEARS.
Man he crushed it!! Not only did he do everything he said he would... his expansion of the US was critical... critical. Without it the nation would never have been a global superpower. All in one term. Legend. Fave from now on. 100%
It's just really upsetting that land came at him intentionally picking a fight with Mexico and blaming them for the attack while on the other literally commiting a 2nd trail of tears with manifest destiny not to mention being a warmonger with the Mexican war...
It's good to look at success but it's important to study the effects it had on other groups of people and to study fully what had all happened in these times
It’s crazy. We all love Polk because he got u.s. so much land and territory but if we had a president like that now everyone would think he was a madman.
People thought he was an imperialistic madman back then. There was a lot of opposition to the Mexican-American War. Abraham Lincoln being a famous example.
@@augustuscaesar7491 not enough for him not to get elected plus Polk had a lot of support especially from the south
The same people praising him are cursing Putin
I like JK Polk! That man got things done.
He’s a hungry imperialist
Thank you.
@@abrahamlincoln8037 yeah, same with you.
@@JamesKPolk-qe9lm I also like you but you were an imperialist
@@JamesKPolk-qe9lm but thanks for expanding the US
One of my absolute favorites.
One of my absolute above average
Greedy man he is
He Was kinda #Underatedpresident
Polk was on my father's side of the family. My father had his presidential wine set, and a few other artifacts.
One of my relatives had hundreds of millions of dollars but he gave it away so we wouldn't have the trust fund.
I'm happy I didn't grow up as a trust fund kid.
"America has had a few 1-term presidents."
**shows mostly 2 term presidents**
Dancing Dolphin John Adams was a oneterm president
George Washington and Tom Jeff are 2 term presidents.
pooop
yea wasnt jackson 2 term?
James K Polk scored 4 touch downs in one game in highschool football for Polk High
My man really did speedrun the presidency
Andrew Jackson:This Is TN!
Me:This Is A Meme
Cool I was born in Tennessee
The map at 1:28 suggests that the land immediately to the west of the Mississippi River was acquired during Polk's presidency.
I think you mean the map at 0:54. That's a very poor graphic. As you pointed out, the land west of the Mississippi was already part of America. It came from the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. It should not be colored white but the same as the eastern part of the country.
Set goals, achieved them. You failed to mention how he also promised to break up the banks and return to the gold standard.
He let all the bankers and lawyers in
George Washington served 2 terms, 1789-1797
Are you Millard Fillmore
Everyone in the comments: making smart comments pointing out the mistakes
Me who is watching this for a history assignment in 7th grade: *confused confusion*
1:08 Polk left office in 1849. Presidential terms normally end in odd number years.
drz oh yeah
Andrew Jackson served 2 terms, (1829-1837)
Hmmm, "to get _exclusive_ rights to the Oregon Territory "
The problem with that statement is it suggests that the Oregon Treaty of 1846 ceded all of the land jointly administered by the USA and British interests to the USA. . From a Whig point of view, the USA lost all rights to Vancouver's Island, New Caledonia, and the Columbia District of the Hudson Bay Company.
There was no entity named "Oregon Territory" until more than two years after the signing of treaty, though one could argue that the word exclusive does apply ... to the portion of Oregon below 49°, excluding the Island of Vancouver.
Best video I ever seen on my entry life :) keep doing
He would have liked to get the entire Oregon territory up to 54 40, but he didn't want to start a war with Britain like he did with Mexico, so he agreed to a compromise! This must have taken great mental strength!
0:46 What about the Louisiana Territory??!
4nub that was Jefferson
Under Jefferson.
Madison and Gallatin were the ones who sold it to Napoleon for 15 million dollars
Thomas Jefferson served 2 terms. (1801-1809).
You are Millard Fillmore
Yeah he’s right.
Thomas Jefferson childrens mixed raice with slavery mixed raice woman
Polk started the Manifest Destiny, Taylor and Filmore ended it.
Manifest destiny was started and completed with Polk. Technically Texas was annexed under Tyler.
I will be president someday
Rebecca Tamma well since Trump is president that can tell you anyone can be president
In the news the other day you said you would bring back the death penalty for babies, why would you say something so controversial?
0:44 That's Zachary Taylor Not Polk
Trump: *Heavy breathing*
in the begining they where just 2 terms presidents
I like this
Jackson had two terms. of sure why he has a photo on the row of one term present
Are you referring to the part at the beginning where they are panning past different presidential portraits? I don't think they are suggesting that all of them are one-termers.
She was comparing Polk with them
Hello there again
Things go so fast
He let a lot of lawyers and bankers in
Did they mean to include images of Washington, Jackson, and Jefferson in the list of “one-term” presidents? They can’t have meant to do that
My favorite democratic president (and perhaps my only favorite democratic president aside from Andrew Jackson) and my third overall favorite president.
What If Polk Had Decided To Run For Re-Election In The Year Of 1848 And Had Won A Second Term And Just How And What Exactly Would He Have Done For The Still Expanding United States And Also To Wonder Exactly Just What The Future Of The Southern States Have Been Like If Polk Had Served Up Until 1852 To Be Exact ????
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔????
Boooo
Your map includes the territory of the Gadsden Purchase, which didn't happen until nearly 10 years later.
But hey, it's important to laugh about the Gadsden Purchase. That's what life's all about.
What up
O my gosh is that you Polk but how your dead
Wait... iHOLA! is Spanish not Mexican I do not know Spanish
In the future FDR will serve the most terms
You are FDR!
American will have all the living space
I look this video up I’m related to him
Giáng thần 2003 (65)
Đồng bào hải ngoại hỏi thẳng gia đình bác tổng vàng hay dỏ/ không nên kéo dài cuộc chiến
Ah yes, James "the adonis" Polk
If your favorite president was Polk.. you didn't study history.. or understand how bad manifest destiny was and how much of a war monger he was with the Mexican war.
Do more research
Thank you America, for Choosing me To Be the 11th US President But Unfortanetly i want to be only 1 term president, cuz i have Cholera i think im already old america.

Hahaha it’s funny that amaericans invade mexico, but now mexico invade america
Texas was a Republic that would always end up annexing the USA, where on earth did they get that Texas reached the Rio Grande? Texas always their limits was the Nuts River, they had everything planned
@arceisra9267hahahaha you're wrong
Either you're an American or you didn't pay attention to your history classes at school.
Mexico did not send the USA, Mexico was under the mandate of President Santa Ana, who had an ambition to have all of Mexico controlled. He was a dictator so to speak. When Polk was elected president, he promised your country more territory unless it had 2 coasts and he achievement invading the capital of mexico the city of mexico where they raised your flag but it was removed when zachary taylor and jose joaquin de herrera signed the annexation of california, new mexico to the usa so polk promised his promise to the american people
When Texas was Mexico the Mexican government outlawed slavery. Illegal aliens poured across the borders from the US and its territories against Mexican law. Eventually the illegals (supporters of slavery, I might add) fought and broke away forming the Republic of Texas but the votes were stacked with the illegal immigrants who poured into Mexico's territory and forced the issue and legalized slavery in the Republic. Minus slavery as an issue it was kind of like what illegal aliens from the continental US did to Hawaii. Overwhelm the legal population and then outvote them.
Polk just took land in the name of God's gift of manifest destiny. In many cases it was a shameful action which provoked or stoked historical problems in order to take land. Of course men like Lincoln were embarrassed by Polk and his actions. My history professor used to say that there was a reason why the full history of Polk's presidency is even now swept under the rug unless you really study about him. People would rather forget about what he did. It would be called imperialism if it happened today.
